Great Course Coming Back
Shoal Creek was hit hard by a tornado a few years ago. The course is challenging and in great shape. The amenities are not there yet but they are working on it.
Greta value. It's getting there!
Shoal Creek is pumping money into the course. You can tell they are working hard to improve it and restore it back to its former glory. The greens and bunkers were great, the layout is fun, and the fairways are getting there.
$37 to ride 18 on a Sunday morning (not a hot deal) is a great value and it won't be that cheap for long!
Course Play, Course Conditions
The course conditions were poor. It’s clear the turf is struggling, though efforts to repair it are visible from the recent aeration. The pace of play was extremely unsatisfactory. We didn’t have a cart ready at our scheduled tee time, and there was no active marshal enforcing pace of play. Golfers were taking three to four shots off the tee box, showing a complete disregard for course etiquette. For example, the group ahead of us couldn’t hit the ball more than 200 yards, yet they refused to play their shots until the group on the green had finished, even though there was no chance they could reach them.
Two hours golfing and never made it to the six hold before we quit.
Avoid this course
Had a 11:54 tee time but due to cart shortage we did not tee off until 12:15. There is a started but he’e allowing groups to tee off in twosomes when the course is packed. Pace of play is bad. Add to that there were a lot of 1st time golfers making it worse. The fairways and greens are okay. Layout is not bad. But driving range, cart path and clubhouse are a disaster. Everything outside of the fairways and greens looks like a construction zone. Mentioned my dissatisfaction to clubhouse attendant and they encouraged us to write the review. They should have offered me a refund as we only played 7 holes in 2 hours.
I wish you wouldn't judge the course based on inconsiderate golfers. If you go to our website you'll see that we were hit by 4 tornadoes 2 years ago and clean up is ongoing. We do everything we can to keep the pace of play up but that is challenging when your putting 200 golfers out on a weekend.

TOP VALUE FOR THE FEE - MUST PLAY!
Having seen several "poor" reviews, I had to come play this course since I have found over the years that many who leave a bad review are not being fair. I have played over 700 different courses around the world since 2009 and my opinions are based on havin played a wide variety of courses. I gave this course 4 stars but would give 4.5 if possible. There are some things that definitely need addressing, most of which are already in process.
Listing the "Con" items first: 1. Golf cart paths need reworking (seems to be in process) / 2. Some areas outside the tees/greens/fairways need repairs/sod planted (seems to be in process) / 3. Golf carts need to be cleaned better before putting back into use. "Pro" items: 1. Overall tee boxes I played were in good condition - only 4 of the tee boxes I played had a couple of bare areas / 2. All greens were in good to very good condition - only 2 greens had a couple of spots needing grass - all greens rolled true and the speed (about 8-9) was consistent from green to green / All fairways were in very good condition, some had spots outside the fairway areas that were being reworked / BIGGEST PRO is the tee time pricing! The clubhouse is under renovation but the pro shop does have some drinks and food. The employees I interacted with were friendly, pleasant, caring and genuinely seemed to value me as a custome. I WILL DEFINITELY make the drive from midtown Atlanta again soon.
Don’t do it!
How this course has good reviews is beyond me. The path is treacherous, there are patches of dirt everywhere, the place needs a complete overhaul! We have not been this disappointed in a very long time. No starter, anyone, anywhere, pathetic!
The cart paths are one of the next projects. Since we were hit with 4 tornadoes, between the trees and the equipment needed to remove the tress, the cart paths were, in fact, destroyed. I would hope you'd offer some grace to a course that is trying to rebuild after neglect and then the wrath of Mother Nature.
Tale of two nines
Overall, this course is worth the 22.50 you pay for it. But no more than that. The front nine was above average in length. layout, and value. The back nine had four holes that were not worth a penny. They would qualify for a disc golf course, but not for a real one.
The course has been under new ownership since 2021. I hope you can come back and give us another try.
goodday
course need improvement around greens, also the cart path needs repairs.
Our cart paths were destroyed by 4 tornadoes 2 years ago and the equipment used to remove them further destroyed them. The cart paths, while a multi-million dollar renovation, is one of the next items on the list.
Great Value
Nothing fancy but a solid golf course. In good conditions considering the winter and heavy rains. Greens rolled true. Keep up the good work
Good golf at Shoal Creek.
After all the rain, the course is in reasonablely good shape. We had exceptionally good weather. The clubhouse food was good as usual and priced Right. The greens are in very good shape. Play was pleasant and course not crowded. Hi
Very good for price
This course is by no means pristine. Several tee boxes are patchy and there are weeds here and there. But the greens are in good shape and roll well, and the areas that really matter are definitely good enough. I will drive to play here any day for a ten dollar tee time.
hidden gem
this course works well for one who desires to spend quality time in the "park" without being pused or slowed down by other golfers.
It is a very peaceful place and most inportantly the best value course i ever played without sacrificing quality.
Above all management makes efforts to keep the course in good shape. Recognized a few improvements on bridges etc..yesterday.
Only reason why I did not rate it 5 star is for the many neglected pot holes on the cart paths.
I encorage you to continue your great efforts.
We intend to keep coming back and supporting you.
Thank You for past few years of enjoyment.
It was a good day
The course was unusually vacant - the day after Fall break for the schools. Greens were just right, except a bit slow after an earlier rain shower. Weather was perfect for leisurely play. I played one of my better games. One triple bogie, one errant drive, couple birdies to an 88: usually have a low to middle 90s.
Château Élan Stay & Play Golf Package
My review is based on my experience which was poor. I paid ~$60 for the round and did not complete 9. Mentioned it or the staff and nothing. No refund. I didn’t comment about the range which needs to upgrade the balls. My assessment is fair and for people playing courses regularly we expect more.
