Skip the practice range.
the only thing I do not like about the course is the practice range mats
it gives you a false sense of play like the bounce.
Other then that course is in great shape. Friendly staff as well. kudos to the staff.
marshall's should patrol the course a little more.
had a great time and always enjoy playing there.
A 6 hour round is inexcusable. Marshal did nothing about it.
Worth your time & money
This was my first time playing City Club Marietta. I traditionally book through GolfNow because it is easy and I often find good deals. I was skeptical because I read other reviews saying that they frowned upon GolfNow users. This was not the case. They would rather you call & book because they offer the same greens fees with no booking fee, but I did not receive any bad treatment.
We got off around 12:30 on a Sunday and could play at our own pace. The carts have monitors to check distance and the course was well kept. There was still dew on the ground, which slowed the greens way down. Also, because of the moisture, our wedge shots left quite the ball marks on the green. (Kind of a pain to fix and others didn't fix theirs).
As someone who traditionally plays the executive courses, Legacy & Fox Creek in Smyrna, this will now be my go-to full-length course. It is relatively inexpensive, the course is well kept with a nice clubhouse, and the view is quite scenic for being so close to Atlanta. If you are from out of town, it is even directly next to the Hilton hotel.
For those in the Cobb County area, I would highly recommend this course.
Challenging course tight fairways l like to play here when ever I get a chance!!!!
Round 1 10-22-17
I enjoyed my round of golf. Starter put me with 3 other gentlemen was very friendly and courteous. The condition of the course was in average shape the greens rolled well.
Mr. Hood,
Thank you for playing and we look forward to seeing you again.
Skip the practice range.
The course is open for any level of player. Great layout a few blind spots from tee box need a few more bells to ring. Do be patient on those holes.
Practice, range is in terrible conditions. So save your money on that one.
The greens are fuzzy, and do no roll true. Slow greens. A couple of the greens are needing attention.
Other then that the course is a must play.
Thank you for playing City Club Marietta and the kind words. Unfortunately, with the heavy rains we experienced on the morning you played, we were unable to get the mowers out to cut the greens or do any maintenance on the practice tee. We look forward to seeing you on a better day when you can experience or normal playing conditions.
GOLFNOW booking Patron
Enjoyed the course as always. Nevertheless, the course staff seem to frown on GOLFNOW customers. I love enjoying a variety of course throughout the country with the ease of the GOLFNOW app and a warm welcome at all destinations. Why would a employee of City Club of Marietta, great me with an unhanded welcome stating, “Oh your a GOLFNOW booking” very condescending and patronizing. Even the best intentions can be misconstrued as ignorance but wow!!!! Ultimately I love the course but the attitude of the employees leaves a lot to be desired in customer service.
Jason,
We sincerely apologize for any perceived attitude when you played the other day. We strive to treat all of our players with respect no matter what price they have paid to play. I have spoken with the employee and they have assured me that there was no malice intended and they feel bad it was taken that way. We look forward to seeing you again and having the opportunity to change your mind about our level of customer service.
Excellent layout, scenic setting
The course layout was dynamic, each hole offered something different. Albeit on the shorter side. The elevation changes made for a scenic setting. The bunkers were excellent. The greens were generally in good shape but too soft - my shoes are Nike soft spikes and left a lot of marks. Overall very positive experience.
Nice open course
I'm pretty new, just 2 months in, but been playing 2-3 times per week and starting to break 100. I've played only 4 other courses in Acworth, Hiram, and Cartersville, and I'd say this one was pretty nice. I liked how open it was, as opposed to others I've played, but the greens were really soft (could see foot prints), and some missing grass which was surprising since they recently aerated, and roughs had lot of grass clippings left over, but I'd still prefer it over Creekside any day.
Enjoyable Golf
Its not a plush country club. Its not a course that will test the best golfers or the longest hitters. What it is is an enjoyable golf experience at a very affordable price. Bring the family, play at a comfortable pace, without a Marshall breathing down your neck. Golf like it oughta be.
Seen it better
In airation process on back nine at the time we played , some greens looked bad although they rolled better Than they looked. Otherwise everything was good, still was a good price for city club !
Good if supereior Greens are not a factor.
The course is in good shape and the price is reasonable on GolfNow. You will be disappointed if you are looking for Good "True" rolling greens. This course gets a lot of play from people that obviouly do not have the proper golf etiquette to repair divots. They are extremely soft so the greens are hacked up all over and you pay for it when putting. It"s a decent course overall.
The course is in good shape.
Not a long course but fairly tight with changing elevations. The greens were good. Has some short par fours that make it fun. The carts have a GPS that is Very helpful. Doesn't have a high slope rate but fun to play.
Maybe the Best Public in Atlanta
City Club Marietta vs. Cobblestone is a difficult comparison. City Club has GPS Golf Carts, a dramatically better clubhouse, gorgeous mountain views, and is a bit more forgiving for beginners. Cobblestone has immaculate fairways and greens, gorgeous water views, and can be very, very challenging.
I find myself playing City Club more often, mostly because I'm not all that good so the lower Slope helps, but also because it's simply a great, gorgeous course that is fun to play and practice at. If they had a club membership fee for annual discounts, I would pay it.
Golf course review
Interesting layout, very short course. Fairways were in average shape but the greens were terrible. Slow, dead spots everywhere and on every hole at least 5-10 un-fixed ball marks.
Mr. Halsey,
I am sorry you had a less than ideal experience with us on Black Friday. We were extremely busy, as we are every year on that day. We are always concerned about pace of play and word of a six hour round definitely warranted some investigation. I checked the GPS records and your cart left the first tee at 11:37AM and came off the 18th green at 4:39PM for a round time of 5 hours and 2 minutes. I can also assure you that the marshal was doing everything possible to keep groups moving, but there was not any one group holding up the course, on such busy days the pace just naturally tends to slow. We are approaching a slower time of year when the course will not be as crowded and pace of play should not be an issue for you. We look forward to seeing you again.
