Still love playing Hilldale
The course is beat up, particularly on the front 9, showing its age. No excuse to have large tree branches in the course, unless they came down during last nights storms. We went out early hoping to avoid slow pace of play, but immediately got backed up on #2. I’m a senior golfer, but I know how to play efficiently so as not to affect my fellow golfers. No-one on the course to affect any sort of hurry up offense. I usually play here 3-4x a year, today being my 1st in 2020, but I’m not sure I’ll be back until 2021.

Course had been used and abused
Course seems to have been played a lot. Tee boxes are all sand and dirt, Fairways are burnt in some spots, rough is burnt in many more spots. Overall condition is poor, except greens are in good condition.

They need to rake the traps
good course need to rake traps and take care of weeds traps look like they haven't been raked in weeks course needs to do it since covid-19 no rakes for us FYI toplayers do not park in front of the greens park your cart as close to the next hole as possible cigar smokers do not bring them on the Green those ashes on the green are horrible they make clips for carts to hold them little golf etiquette goes a long way and speeds things up

Hilldale
Worst conditioned course I've played this year by far. Fairways were hard and not watered. Teeing areas were beat and littered with broken tees. Sand traps were not maintained at all. The greens were the only thing that was good. I have played here a number of times before, and the course has never been in this bad of shape. I will not be back......

You get what you pay for
Overall can be a challenging and fun course but maintenance is subpar. Fairways and tee boxes are rock hard. Also very slow play every time we go there

Not in good shape
Fairways really hard, several tee boxes beaten up. Don’t waste your time

Very dry course
Greens are in good shape. The rest of the course is awful. Apparently they don't believe in watering fairways and tee boxes.

First Round at Hilldale
Clubhouse was “entertaining” with the relationship of the two behind the counter. Course played well overall. Fairway markers clearly indicate 200, 150, and 100 yards out. Tough to get green speeds down as ground crews watered down greens as we played. Sand traps were playable and saw evidence of previous players attempting to smooth out the sand after visiting them as there were no rakes during Covid. Played 6 holes, and on the 7th tee, in 1:28 and a ranger said we needed to pick up the pace. I said, HUH???... and a few other words... then the other members in the group were felt rushed and ruined the next couple holes because of it... not to mention how the group behind felt as though they weren’t held up a bit... So, it started out ok, but left on a negative note.

Great value for your golf dollar
The term “sporty” comes into consideration with this course. Water elevation changes out of bounds and trees make you think in order to score.
You can end up using all of the clubs in your bag

Nice layout but not maintained at all
This course has a nice layout but it is not maintained at all!! Tee boxes were scarred with divots and littered with broken tees. Fairways were atrocious - brown (not watered at all), more weeds than grass and many patches of dirt (no grass or weeds even). The greens were the only part of the course that looked remotely taken care of, but still had many ball marks. Even the parking lot and pro shop areas look like they haven't been re-paved in 20 years. A little money and hard work in upkeep could make this a much better course to enjoy.

A disappointing experience overall
Started at the 1st tee where the starter was playing music. In 25+ years and dozens of courses this is the first time I've had to hit an opening tee shot with music playing in the background. Then the course conditions were brutal. I hit a sky high sand wedge from 120 and the ball bounced off the green and produced zero ball mark. Any other course I played this year that ball stays exactly where it lands and I'm putting for birdie, not picking it out from a fence. The greens were also wildly inconsistent. Some greens fast, others slow, others in between. There was no way to get a feel with this lack of consistency. Then at the turn their grill, touted on their website, had nothing but severely burnt bratwursts that were barely edible. Then on the 10th tee we had to wait twice for employees to drive up the 10th fairway and then one of them proceeded to talk with one of our playing partners who was also an employee and the grill guy while we tried to tee off. Very distracting! Lastly it would be nice to have a yardage plaque on the 12th to know how long to carry the creek. My dad hit a perfect shot and ended up in the creek because we had no yardage. Very disappointing! I've played better courses for much more reasonable cost at much better pace. I doubt I will be going back.

Used to be a gem, now it's just worn out.
This was my favorite course for the last 15 years. The fairways were always a little spotty, but the greens were the reason why you came. Not so much anymore. Every aspect of this course is poorly cared for (pro shop, range, putting green, carts, tee boxes, fairways, greens, cart roads, bunkers, everything!).
I wouldn't pay more than $15 to play this course again.
