Challenging Yet Fun
The course had water on almost every hole, but the best feature was the course layout. It had a great flow along with a beautiful ambiance. For a Friday, I was pleasantly surprised that pace was pretty fast. The course has it challenges with I think it’s the third hole that has hole water on both sides which is a peak into what you can expect from this point on. The course is well maintained. I suppose that is due to all the alarms that go off in your cart when you’re out of bounds or headed to an area you shouldn’t go. I definitely plan to go back and l would highly recommend this hidden gem in the northwest suburbs.
Best bang for your buck
I've played here numerous times and there is one guy who I assume runs the place and is very friendly and accommodating. I've seen him cleaning the practice range, driving around as the marshall to keep pace, and as the starter, and has always been a good vibe. This place is a great value for twilight times which you wouldn't think it by driving into the place as it's fairly old and the buildings aren't as updated as most places are nowadays but the course conditions are great. The course is on the smaller side but most holes are narrow which makes it challenging. Best value I've found in the area
Played front 9 only. Wish I had time for 18!
I had a 3 hour window open up this morning and was in the Schaumburg area so I booked 9 holes blindly at a course I never played. I am glad I did! The course played well for this high handicap player. Paired up with a lovely couple. Pace of play was average. Great conditions after light rain last night. I would play it again if only to check out the back nine.
Enjoyed the course.
It was a hot day, but the course was well-maintained. The staff was friendly.
The pace of play was also good.
Hard greens
It was extremely hard to hold the greens. The greens were very hard. We were hitting low irons onto the greens from the fairway and could not hold many of them. Other than that, the course was in decent shape.
Grear experience.
The fairways, greens, and tee boxes were in good condition. The pace of play was also good. The staff were friendly, and the ranger was very helpful.
Greens are good, everything else is just ok.
The greens were in great shape, fast and true. Don’t love the layout. To many homes and buildings on the course.
Beautiful And Challenging
I’ve golfed about 15 rounds this year. Hilldale was by far the most well kept course, and also the most challenging course of the year. Traps and hazards are well placed to keep you on your toes in club selection and swing choice. Staff is friendly, halfway house is small but offers an adequate selection for a quick bite. Ball cleaners and water is available on the course. Carts come with GPS and Bluetooth. The practice range is not anything special, we had to hit off mats instead of grass but the chipping and putting range was nice. Overall a beautiful course I would highly recommend!
Much better 2024
Play this course back in 2022 And it was not a great experience. Played yesterday and wow! Fairways were great, greens were great, upgraded carts too! Well done guys, I'll definitely be coming back
Lives up to its name!
Course is in good shape. Pro shop building is pretty aged and could use a refresh and some merchandise. Pace of play was slow (not good when ita 90+ out)! But there are some good, challenging holes with elevation changes, hence the name!
Short and sweet (but not easy). A course like this is a great add to a golfers rotation.
5900ish yards from the whites with a 135 slope? I’ve never played a short course like this with such a high slope rating. I think it’s 6400 yards from the tips but as a first timer at a course I always refer to the slope on the scorecard to determine which tees to play… and a135 slope is perfect imo. Anyway, the course is in great condition. The greens roll well, but beware, they are trickier than they appear. A potentially great score was spoiled by too many three putts. Fairways are in great condition and require a certain amount of precision and strategy to hit. Bunkers are hit or miss. Taking off one star for the bunkers and the par 5 13th hole where Interstate 90 is in play if you hook or pull your tee shot. Personally, I hate holes like this. Even moreso due to the fact that there is no tree cover to smother errant shots (I hit the fairway but I still hate holes like this). But yeah, I recommend this course if you’re looking for a change of pace and/or are trying to dial in your long irons/hybrids/fairway woods. An under appreciated Robert Trent Jones gem that is still fairly affordable compared to other courses in the area.
