Lake Arrowhead Yacht & Country Club - Highlands Course

About
Nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the Highland Course at Lake Arrowhead weaves through rolling woodlands. Every hole offers unique scenery and stunning mountain views. The golf course was completely redesigned in 2008, which makes it one of Atlanta's younger courses; nevertheless it has quickly garnered a strong following amongst locals thanks to not only the challenging layout but also the affordable rates and beautiful setting. Lake Arrowhead's convenient location makes it even more appealing, it sits less than an hour north of Atlanta. The golf course features strategically placed bunkers and plenty of trees. It is a layout that requires careful course management. The 14th hole is arguably the most difficult. This tricky par 5 is known to test even the most skilled players.

Maintenance issue
Nice course but the putting surface on most holes is not good .sandtraps also need care
Greens and tee boxes (we played white) were in serious need of repair; fairways were okay. The course was well laid out and very challenging for intermediate and beginner; would still challenge even the advanced.
Bring a lot of balls!
Great mtn course, but tough
It was abarassing the number of balls that I couldn't find, even when hit in the middle of the fairway.
Greens and Bunkers
Have played this course a multitude of times over the years. It’s a very challenging design and the surrounding area is very picturesque. Back nine greens are in very rough shape. Plan on putting through ball marks, dead spots and inconsistent grass. Fairway and green side bunkers are also rough with weeds, bare spots and none were raked. Good course for the price to work on your game except for putting. Hope the ownership invests in the bunkers and greens.
Great course
The course was great however the back nine greens were in very poor conditions that made putting impossible as there was exposed dirt and grass that made ball move unpredictably. The course was impressive and challenging! I loved the course.
A slightly-better-than-average golfer gets kicked around
Obviously, the course has experienced a lot of rain, but the rough and the greens were impossible. I lost 3 balls in the rough even though I knew approximately where the ball had landed. The rough went beyond being punitive and was impossible in most places. Greens were shaggy and required putts to be jammed at the hole to even get close. Pure guesswork was required for makeable 10 foot putts; long-distance ones, adjusted for terribly slow rolls, were often more successful. The course design was gimmicky. Most egregious example was the par 5 where the design was almost 180 degrees from tee to green. A long drive was required to get near a possible second shot across a ravine; that shot, for me, was 180 yards, and I hit it perfectly only to find that it had run across the fairway into the woods on the other side of the fairway. After a drop, I still had 170 yds into the green...terrible hole. Others had hidden trashy weed fields that ate up perfectly-aimed shots. All-in-all, for a first-time golfer, it was a miserable experience. The old course was a lot more fun and was considerably fairer.
Previous reviews I read talked about how bad the course condition was. It was much better than I was expecting after the reviews. The bunkers are the worst part. Greens rolled good and the fairways are solid. Ball marks are a issue, I fixed atleast 4 or 5 per green. Great lay out. A true mountain course. I will definitely play there again.
The course is difficult…don't give up learn to play the monster.
Each hole is amazing. The mountains will take your breath away.
We are transplants and Georgia is not flat but it is gorgeous.!
It is distracting. Is it the course or is it the views!
5 hours at 15 minutes for 16 holes !!!
Mid 90 degrees, no breeze and a tough course.
Played the practice round the day before in 4.5 hours for 18. On a day where they have a tournament, do not play. Many blind shots either from the T or your second shot. Definitely a tough course.
Greens were not in very good shape, especially for $75. Multiple greens had large bare spots. I’ve played lake arrowhead numerous times over the past few years and this is the worst condition I’ve ever seen the greens. Fairways were is good condition just a touch long. It’s usually a great course and I’ll play it again but there should be a disclaimer out about the conditions.
Lake Arrowhead
Great course, but in much need of some maintenance..
Overall layout was really challenging, glad I got paired with a couple of local guys to show me the direction to aim my shots, lots of blind shots on the front nine.
Overall would play it again.
Great course
This course was very fun to play. Great place to see wildlife as well. It’s in a remote location so no cars zooming pass it loud noises. This course allows you to utilize every club in your bag. Will definitely be going again!
Good value
The course is currently in rough shape on the back nine with many greens looking pretty beat up and some disease in areas. No ranger meant we waited behind a slow group for 2.5+ hours on the front, but once we passed them on the back we flew for the rest of the round. Value is excellent and views are always stunning here, especially on the front. This is an extreme mountain course with few level lays and every shot deals with elevation changes.
Horrible conditions
I have not played this course in awhile and when I booked the tee time I was like wow they went way up in price so maybe they made improvements to the course and it will be better then ever, so first off the tee boxes are absolutely horrible. The greens had so many divot marks old and new putting was horrible. So needless to say we will not be returning anytime soon and maybe never.
