Lake Arrowhead Yacht & Country Club - Highlands Course

About
Nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the Highland Course at Lake Arrowhead weaves through rolling woodlands. Every hole offers unique scenery and stunning mountain views. The golf course was completely redesigned in 2008, which makes it one of Atlanta's younger courses; nevertheless it has quickly garnered a strong following amongst locals thanks to not only the challenging layout but also the affordable rates and beautiful setting. Lake Arrowhead's convenient location makes it even more appealing, it sits less than an hour north of Atlanta. The golf course features strategically placed bunkers and plenty of trees. It is a layout that requires careful course management. The 14th hole is arguably the most difficult. This tricky par 5 is known to test even the most skilled players.

Beautiful place to play a round
I have been a member at Lake Arrowhead for about 9 months now. Everyone is supper friendly and helpful. This place will take your breath with some of the scenery you will find throughout the course. Wildlife is always in abundance as well. Deer and Turkey are seen every time I play. The course is in great condition since the spring green up. It is a very challenging course and requires you to plan you shots to stay out of trouble.
Pace of play
Pace of play leaves alot to be desired.. No marshal to be found.
Glacial
Glacial pace of play!
3 of the 4 par holes are ridiculous.
The views are beautiful. The designers put some really weird holes out there.
7 hour round. Rude Employees. STAY AWAY!
Beautiful course. Conditions are pretty good - besides the traps. I have better sand traps in my backyard. But holy cow - stay away. We teed off at 10:50 - finished 18 at 4:45. unacceptable. After hole 3, I counted 6 total groups on holes 3 and 4. SIX.
When the old grumpy Marshall Don (yes I name dropped you, you COWARD) drove by, I simply asked if we were “encouraging pace or play.” He replied back “7:30 AM,” as is his smart response was supposed to satisfy me.
I have an idea - how bout you space out groups by 12 to 15 minutes instead of stacking them on top of each other by 10 mins. Don’t let twosomes out on Saturday mornings. Have the Marshall do his job.
The folks in the clubhouse were super friendly in the morning, but by the end of the round, everyone (golfers and staff) were on edge. I wonder why?!
Absolute JOKE of a round. Joke of a staff. Joke of a course. Stay away. I’m sure they will do all they can to get this review deleted and if you want to speak more about, go ahead and call me GM. Because I plan on checking on this review daily. If it gets removed, I’ll put it back up. Feeling very petty on this fine Tuesday morning.
Good luck arrowhead!
Slow, slow , slow
We were on time for our tee time. Marshall made us wait 15 minutes so he could make 2 random groups play together, after letting a 4 some before that go off early. Took 6 hours to play. Unacceptable.
Pace of play
We tee’d off at 4:40. We finished 9 holes at 7:20. A group of young adults with little or no golf knowledge, held up 5 group of golfers. The marshal was no where to be found. The worst pace of play I have ever experienced and want to experience!!!!! The day sucked!
love this course
Beautiful location, great course, some very challenging holes with very helpful staff on the course, pro shop and in the bar.
Probably my favorite public course in the area.
The course has some pros and cons
I always enjoy playing at Lake Arrowhead. But Unfortunately the course conditions haven’t been up to snuff in recent years. The sand traps are in horrible condition, the aeration of the greens is very poor compared to other courses. Slow play is not monitored like it should be. The rates are over priced for the course conditions. I still plan on playing there periodically but I hope it turns around for the better like it used to be.
Good course with lots of terrain.
I’ve played this course a couple times. Lots of terrain so you have to enjoy a hilly course. Wonderful views. The staff was mostly great but the Marshall had a little too much caffeine that morning. Stopped on the turn and was told to hurry up or be left behind. Dude, it’s the turn. People stop for things. Otherwise the crew was great. Some of the tee boxes were closer to sand bunkers. Fixing those tee boxes will go a long way to improve the course. Still. It’s a great course and I’d recommend it.
