Lake Arrowhead Yacht & Country Club - Highlands Course

About
Nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the Highland Course at Lake Arrowhead weaves through rolling woodlands. Every hole offers unique scenery and stunning mountain views. The golf course was completely redesigned in 2008, which makes it one of Atlanta's younger courses; nevertheless it has quickly garnered a strong following amongst locals thanks to not only the challenging layout but also the affordable rates and beautiful setting. Lake Arrowhead's convenient location makes it even more appealing, it sits less than an hour north of Atlanta. The golf course features strategically placed bunkers and plenty of trees. It is a layout that requires careful course management. The 14th hole is arguably the most difficult. This tricky par 5 is known to test even the most skilled players.

Annual Lake Arrowhead Round
Took my brother law to Lake Arrowhead for a round. He was impressed with both the views and the vistas on each hole. I am always excited to play Lake Arrowhead but in the end , I am disappointed.
The weather was great and overall the tee boxes and fairways were in very good shape . The greens especially on the back nine need some assistance and the green side bunkers got damaged last week by the rain.
The pace of play was great and the Marshall’s did a good job monitoring the course.
The course demands shot selection especially on the front nine . I am not sure you was the designer of the front nine but the layout requires improvement
1. iron / iron / iron
2. Needs more length
3. Strange dogleg with an unfair sloping green
4. Ok
5. Strange dogleg on a par 4 . I hit 5 wood 7 iron
6 ok
7 par 3 which has a long carry ( poor tee boxes
8 iron then a 200 iron to the green
9 7 or 6 iron , sharp dog leg right
Beautiful landscape and had (has ) great potential but would require massive amount of work
Had a beer on the patio overlooking 18 :)
Great Course
This is one of the best courses I have ever played. It is a very challenging course as well.
Eval
Overall it is always a good experience. It would be nicer if the clubhouse was open past 6:00 earlier in the week.
Would like to see the sand traps maintained better.
Many players are not repairing ball marks on the greens.
Challenging but beautiful Course
Lake Arrowhead is a beautiful course with awesome views and interaction with wildlife. The course is very challenging but a lot of fun to play. The staff is awesome and several holes are picturesque. I strongly recommend playing a round or many at Lake Arrowhead.
Funky layout but great greens in my opinion friendly staff and a tricky enough course to have a blast but get challenged.
Course improvements
The tee boxes are in need of maintenance and the sand traps need to be raked and weeded. Many of the players are not repairing divots and ball marks on the green which isn't a course maintenance issue but an education issue.
Beautiful surroundings
The course is dropped in the middle of the North Georgia rolling hills. It’s beautiful and filled with all kinds of wildlife, very peaceful. The green and tee box conditions were in rough condition. Many divots and ball marks made the greens difficult to read putts. Overall the course was a good challenge and I enjoyed playing there and will likely do so again.
Wonderful Course
A terrific course that is as challenging as they say. Hit it straight and there won't be an issue. A lot of elevation changes on the back nine, so be prepared for that. Front nine allows you to get your feet wet before diving in the deep end. Staff is very friendly and welcoming, driving range is great with a sand trap to practice, views are immaculate and restaurant is delicious. Definitely will be back to hopefully conquer all holes.
Gorgeous until you get up close
The drive in was gorgeous and the staff was very friendly. The course looked great until you got up close. A few tee boxes were solid dirt. If you barely miss a fairway you’re hunting in 9 inch grass that’s unevenly mowed and full of dead grass from the cut 2 weeks ago. Bunkers were rock hard sand that nobody rakes. Worst were the greens which looked like the moon with the number of ball marks.
It’s a tough course that should be 5 stars but I think the fact it’s semi public has deteriorated the quality of care by the players and workers.
Nice course but...
Lake arrowhead is a nice and challenging course however, 1 individual marshal really dampened the experience. We teed off at 7:43 and finished 12:03 but we were confronted by the marshal 3 times telling us to hurry up. When we pointed out that we were not holding anyone up, he replied that he was going to tell them to hurry up also. Occasionally we were waiting briefly on the group in front of us to clear the greens on par 4 before we took our approach shots but that wasn't excessive. The marshal caused stress on the person that I golfing with to the point they wanted to just quit. The course is great, just the one marshal needs to be more courteous.
Played after a storm
Played Lake Arrowhead yesterday after morning storms blew through. The course dried out fairly quickly due to good drainage with not as much standing water as I had expected.
The course was in good shape overall and was fairly challenging due to some severe doglegs (left and right) leading to blind shots. Some of the par 3s were playing at 200+ even from the White tees with about 90% carry.
A Pleasure all the way through
Beautiful Drive to Club, Super Friendly Staff, tough Course but Fair.
I will be coming back
Great course
This is first of all a beautiful course with lots of scenic views. This course is challenging but not too difficult if you keep it in the fairways. I would definitely use an app or range finder to get distances to penalty areas. I am a 12 hdcp and for my first time playing the course I almost shot my hdcp. The greens were good, people REALLY should repair ball marks though, but this is an issue at most courses nowadays. All in all it was a great experience and a fun round.
Course condition is great
The course condition was better than I have played on it in sometime. Greens and fairways were perfect. Course is one of the hardest courses in all of GA due to its mountain layout and very few safe places for your ball to land on mishits. Your ball is basically either playable on the fairway or gone forever. However the views and atmosphere make up for this. My only complaint is if you have a later tee time, the clubhouse closes at 6pm. I would have liked to use the restroom and I needed a new glove and some tees when making the turn. They also have a nice dining area that closes at dinnertime.
Much improved!
The greens were much better than three weeks ago. They were smooth but a little slow.
The tee boxes also improved but are still in poor condition in places.
