Lakes Golf Course at Laura Walker State Park
About
Situated at the northern edge of the Okefenokee Swamp, the Lakes Golf Course at Laura S. Walker State Park is home to an abundance of native plants and wildlife including alligators, gopher tortoises, and blue herons. True to its name, the course has three large lakes and the layout is routed through numerous varieties of oak trees and palmettos. The course is as challenging as it is scenic with heavily undulating greens, water hazards, and strategically placed bunkers. There is also subtle but tricky, links-style mounding defining each of the fairways and landing areas. The course strikes a nice balance of player-friendly and difficult holes but be prepared for the final holes on both the front and back nine, they are considered the toughest on the golf course.

What a gem!
Could not have asked for better conditions! The course is in superb condition, especially for a well-used public course. Greens excellent, with moderate speed. Well groomed fairways and bunkers. Just a delight to play and a great scoring course, as well. Definitely will be back to enjoy future rounds.
Book your tee time now
The state park has spent money! Fresh sand in the traps, some new tee boxes, fairways and greens are plush! Great course to play and worth the money!
Excellent place to play
Me and my grandson had an excellent round of golf. Everything was in great shape and the staff was wonderful.
Love this course
Fairways and tee boxes in great condition. Greens roll true but a little furry and slow. I’m sure it has everything to do with healing from earlier punching. Played previously and they were much faster. Can’t beat this course especially for the money.
Bad Greens are No Fun !
Greens were the worst I have ever seen for a State owned course . Rate should have been 50% off.
Very disappointing !
Golfnow needs to make courses add updates are disclaimers.
Disappointe
I have played this course of and on since it was opened. This was the worst conditions I've seen with the greens.
I would not recommend playing this course until condition improves. At least their should be a reduction of 50% in rates, and also, should advise players of the condition of greens.
As for pace of play, there was a couple I caught up with, with no one in front of them, on the back nine. Waited on every shot, would not ask me to play through. We were both riding in carts. I was playing as a single.
Always a pleasure
Love this course, drive over an hour to get to it ..great, fun layout...beautiful surroundings...very friendly staff...always a great experience and enjoyable round! Greens are a little rough, but hopefully they will improve soon...regardless, I’ll be back!
Course is getting there...in a month, should be good
Greens are 25%...lots of dead spots on the green, but grass is growing in.
Bunker work is almost finished...really polishes the look of the course.
The fairways are getting lush...lots of empty divots though.
We filled our sand jugs 3 times.
Dormant rough is really bare from all the cart traffic.
Need to rope off some areas to let the grass grown back in around the greens were carts ave been driving EVERYWHERE!!
Great State Park course
They are working on the course to improve play with new fairway and green side bunkers. Overall a great course.
Cart paths are rough. Places need a good deal of work.
Worth every penny, but hot deal was only $10
Kind of got what we paid for today. Have had a lot of rain, mud balls all day, but to be expected. Bunkers were in horrible shape. I understand rain messing them up some but they don’t look like they’ve even been raked since I played there in November. “Sprigs” of some sort of grass on the greens made for plinko like putting. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not upset at the hot deal, but I would have been pretty perturbed had I paid normal rates.
Wet but good
The area has received a tremendous amount of rain. Considering that the course was in very good shape.
Walrus
Great layout and good conditions. However, if you book through GolfNow for this course, you will be treated as a second class person. In their words, they have “special guidelines” for golfers who buy “cheap”golf.
Tranquil Fun Track
Love playing this course, it’s a real fun layout, a lot of risk/reward holes, measures only 6600 yards from the tips but plays pretty long. Good challenge, have played the white tees before and you can be real aggressive. Great course for any skill level. Only complaints today is that the range was closed and it appeared that they’d overseeded tee boxes and haven’t mowed them in over a week (I played last weekend as well) so on the par 3’s your tee shot was like hitting out of the rough.
Great Course for all Levels
Beautiful, well kept State golf course. Fairways are manicured and the greens are moderately fast. The staff is wonderful! The customer service and southern hospitality is top notch. The pro shop is well stocked with food ( hotdogs, chips, a variety of other snacks , drinks and beer) and almost any golf related item you would need. There are some challenging holes but all levels of golfer will enjoy this course.
