Lakes Golf Course at Laura Walker State Park
About
Situated at the northern edge of the Okefenokee Swamp, the Lakes Golf Course at Laura S. Walker State Park is home to an abundance of native plants and wildlife including alligators, gopher tortoises, and blue herons. True to its name, the course has three large lakes and the layout is routed through numerous varieties of oak trees and palmettos. The course is as challenging as it is scenic with heavily undulating greens, water hazards, and strategically placed bunkers. There is also subtle but tricky, links-style mounding defining each of the fairways and landing areas. The course strikes a nice balance of player-friendly and difficult holes but be prepared for the final holes on both the front and back nine, they are considered the toughest on the golf course.

Great Course for all Levels
Beautiful, well kept State golf course. Fairways are manicured and the greens are moderately fast. The staff is wonderful! The customer service and southern hospitality is top notch. The pro shop is well stocked with food ( hotdogs, chips, a variety of other snacks , drinks and beer) and almost any golf related item you would need. There are some challenging holes but all levels of golfer will enjoy this course.
Course was in great shape.
I've had the opportunity to play this course several times. The staff is always friendly and inviting. The course is challenging yet fun for the novice golfer. The course was in excellent condition the greens were fast. The pro shop is well stocked and the gentlemen in the pro shop get an A+ for customer service.
Great layout
I've been reading the great reviews about this course for 5 years and finally got to play it. It is an excellent layout and the condition is also excellent with the exception of the bunkers. They have had a LOT of rain and most of the bunkers are washed out or have become ponds. The greens and fairways are excellent despite the rain. I hope I can play again sooner than 5 years from now!!!
Great course
I havent played this course in over 10 years other than the aand traps this course was in excellent shape will differently be back
Always Fun
Laura Walker is always a fun course. If you are in the fairway you can shoot a good number. The greens roll true - a little slow, but true. The traps are gone- they are working on them, but stay out if the trap and you won't have to worry about it. Love this course.
Great condition
The course is great, and very reasonably priced on golf now. The only thing that is in the works is some of the greens in small areas, and some of the sand traps have water in them. Other than that the course is a great place to play.
Great Course
We play this course several times a month and the Fairways and Greens are getting better each time we play!
Sweet course...ugly sand traps
Greens are almost perfect. A+
Fairways are in great shape. A+
The rough could be deeper...but you couldn't find your ball without a fore caddy. B+
But the bunkers are pits without any sand in them. F-
Doesn't excuse the golfers who don't fill their divots in the fairways...come on Guys!!!
The story is sometime in 2026 the State of Georgia will approve the contract for the contractor to redo the bunkers.
Great course
Great layout, friendly staff, only thing needs work is the sand bunkers.... great place to play.
Good place to play with not many hazards
Great day on a good course.
Beginners will love it and more established players can work on there game. Not many hazards. The bunkers need a lot of work and the course will tell you that, when you check in
Vacation get away
Great layout staff was very friendly let us move up our time to beat the rain have been there before will return
Late Friday Round to end the week...Perfect
Greens were in great shape.
Fairways are greening up.
Rough areas are getting thick.
Sand traps need lots of work.
Waste areas really need some attention.
Pro shop is really loaded with all kinds of shirts, hats, balls & even a good selection of shoes.
9 & 18 are two fine finishing holes.
Pleasant Experience
We holiday on Saint Simons Island every year, golf almost every day and always make it a point to play a few of our rounds at LSW. The course is well laid out, generally not overly busy and not without its challenges. For this round, we were a twosome following a foursome but the pace of play was still very good ... just over 3 1/2 hours for 18. The course is in quite good shape for this time of year and the greens have improved significantly over how they were a couple of years ago. Overall, a very pleasant experience.
Great greens
Course was in great shape and the greens rolled very well. Was a bit crowded, but not to bad for early spring in South Georgia. Always have enjoyed the lay-out because the front and back nine have two different personalities. Fun course!!
Fun Parklike Setting
Course was in quite good shape, except for bunkers which are to be redone. Greens firm and fast.
Had an enjoyable round on this moderately challenging course. Matched up with 3 locals who made the afternoon most enjoyable.
