Mission Hills Club
About
Mission Hills Club in Northbrook opened in 1926 and over the years it has become a local favorite. The championship golf course measures to 2,897 yards from the back tees. Although it may seem relatively short by modern standards, the layout is spread across more than 130 acres of rolling woodlands that provide a spacious feel. Mature trees tightly line the fairways and there are several holes where water comes into play. This seemingly mild golf course is tougher than it first appears. It will test both your accuracy and course-management skills. Mission Hills Country Club's finishing hole is a demanding par 4 that features the most difficult green to putt with a lake to the left and sand bunkers all along the right. You'll want to keep your approach below the hole when you attempt to tackle the green.

Beautifully kept, challenging layout...but ---
The only "but" is the difficulty in finding some of the tee boxes....some are widely scattered, and there needs to be some significant improvement in sign markers so players new to Mission Hills can easily find the next tee.
The landscape on the course is very nice.
This is a private course that turn public and that means the members are upset and very rude. The course is not for golfers that are 15 handicap or higher because of how narrow the holes are. People will be playing from other fairway all day and that makes the course very slow.
The course is very narrow and the rough was very challenging.
The course is nice, no driving range, just nets to warm up. The maintenance of the bunkers was not good but the fairways and greens were good. Greens were quite slow but smooth. Cart paths are in poor condition, potholes everywhere and almost dangerous. Staff very friendly and nice. New owners who are trying hard but need to put a lot of money into the course and clubhouse to make it really good.
Good Value
Very good deal. Course was well maintained and staff was very friendly. Well definitely look into a return trip.
Short and tight!
Great country club feel. It is a bit on the shorter side, but will challenge you with its tight, narrow, tree lined fairways and thick rough. Greens are in fantastic shape. Staff is very friendly. Course has a putting green next to the first tee box, and also 3 practice hitting nets.
Just beautiful, but tight...thick rough..better hit it straight
Though I found alot of trouble, I had fun on this course....greens were plush, huge trees, water...ver challenging
Very tight layout with some hidden surprises
This course runs tight, with some surprises off the tee. Some blind shots require you to make sure you know the hole layout or watch out!! The rough was extremely thick and unforgiving.
Great value!
Mission Hills is a private club that just got listed on GolfNow and it is an exceptional value. Country club conditions at an unbelievable rate. The fairways and greens are pure and dont be fooled by the course yardage, par 70 at 6300 yards is quite a test at this tree lined tight golf course. It is a GolfNow must play on the north shore.
GREAT COURSE GREAT SERVICE
I have played many public courses around the area and this one has quickly became a new favorite of mine. The value, conditions, staff, and proximity to the city all make it one of my go to golf courses when looking for tee times. The course itself was once private but has now opened itself up to the public, this is great because the members still expect tee times to be spread out, as a result this is one of the few places I have been around the city that I actually finished the round in under 4 1/2 hours.
The course is challenging but still fair, yes it is a little skinny and on the shorter side but I would say it feels no skinnier and shorter other public courses (i.e. Cranes Landing and Old Orchard). Do not walk this course unless you are in for a workout the holes are spaced far apart. The course is maintained well and the greens roll very true (especially for a public course). I was tempted to not review this course because I don't want others to snag up the cheap tee times often found, however, because the staff is so great I decided to help this course out as much as possible, I highly recommend this course.
Short and Tight
Old course needs some attention. Clubhouse and locker rooms are ancient.
Fantastic and Close to Downtown!
All summer long I have tried out different courses close to the city (Lincoln Park) that were close enough to get to on a Saturday morning and affordable enough for the casual golfer. This had it all! Had a foursome of some buddies and went out around 9am on a beautiful Saturday towards the end of the season and the course conditions and pace of play were phenomenal. Had no preconceived notions of the course so it was all new to me and was surprised at how nice it was. I'm not a great golfer but played with some good golfers and we all had a great time on a challenging course but forgiving enough for the casual player. The entire staff was welcoming and went out of their way to make sure we enjoyed our round. Never had to wait on a hole and the beer cart came around enough to make us all happy! Will definitely golf here as often as possible!
Well kept hidden jewel
Fairways and greens were beautiful, very easy access from the city
Frustrated
MIssion Hills is a great, short, course. The management and pro shop are a disaster. Both times I played there the pro shop was inept and the computers were adrift. Yesterday the tee was running so slowly that I played the back nine as a single which was delightful, but getting back to the front proved impossible. I left frustrated and will not return.
I will see that the pro shop is brought up to speed as well as the ranger does his job..
As you said it is a great short course, don't want other issues to ruin a good thing
