Mission Hills Club

About
Mission Hills Country Club in Northbrook opened in 1926 and over the years it has become a local favorite. The championship golf course measures to 2,897 yards from the back tees. Although it may seem relatively short by modern standards, the layout is spread across more than 130 acres of rolling woodlands that provide a spacious feel. Mature trees tightly line the fairways and there are several holes where water comes into play. This seemingly mild golf course is tougher than it first appears. It will test both your accuracy and course-management skills. Mission Hills Country Club's finishing hole is a demanding par 4 that features the most difficult green to putt with a lake to the left and sand bunkers all along the right. You'll want to keep your approach below the hole when you attempt to tackle the green.

Country Club feel.
Great location.Well maintained. Will play this course again.
Very friendly staff.
I'd rather play Sportsmans
I read some of the recent reviews of the course after booking a GolfNow tee time and thought (hoped) that the negative reviewers were being picky about the course. Unfortunately the negative reviews are more right on than the positive ones.
Course layout: Nearly all the par 4's require laying up with something other than a driver off the tee leaving yourself between 120-160 to the middle of the green. This gets monotonous after a while since there is no risk/reward nature to these holes. You must hit the fairway or you'll have trouble in the trees.
Condition: Rough was dried out and yellow. Fairways were soggy. Bunkers were not well kept. Greens were in decent shape, but fairly slow. Tee boxes were torn up.
Other: Earlier in the week I played Sportsmans which is right down the road. Sportsmans' greens aren't in as good as shape, but I would still rather play Sportsmans if these two courses were both priced the same. Paying $79 to play this course is far too much. The pro at the course offered us $200 for unlimited golf in October and told us if we signed up we could get the same offer again in April. Neither my friend or I had to take any time to consider the offer.
Play somewhere else!
Typical country club course
Typical country club course, short and tight. Some holes are too short but the greens were in great condition and the staff were very cordial. Overall great value
Good value for the location
Finding 18 holes of golf in the north shore area under $65 with cart is rare, and when I saw a offer for $40 thought it was certainly worth a try. Went there on labor day with a couple friends. The tee time was before noon and were paired with a single who was a member years ago when the course was private. Good thing he was with us. There are several locations where the following hole is not adjacent. Apparently the course was built around a previous development. Compounding the situation the scorecard does not show the course layout, and there are no signage that provide direction. I would not be surprised if there were groups that day who missed their next hole. The only other criticism I would have is that some of the tee boxes need attention. Otherwise the course is quite tight and challenging. The greens and fairways are in good shape. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Given the location and what we paid for would most likely play there again.
poorly maintained, no ranger, long wait, no water, no snack bar, .
very poorly managed course. I would not recommend this course .
Nice and pretty course, lots of trees.
Golf shop was great and friendly. Course was in great shape considering how dry it was in August in Chicagoland. Pace of play was good
The course was in nice condition, the greens were very good and rolled true. The cart paths need a lot of repair. There were pot holes in the path.
Course was short but demanded straight shot, especially off the tee.
Easy access from the city
This is the first time I played this course. Unfortunately, it probably will be the last time. You can tell this course gets A LOT of play. The greens were in fair to decent shape. Undulating in some spots. Not only is this a tight course, but the tee boxes where the holes are running along side by side, are too close to each other for my comfort. If you are a high handicapped golfer, or you have a tendency to spray off the tee box, you will definitely have a long day. The good thing about Mission Hills is that it's a short course. Aside, from 2 parr 5s there really isn't need for a driver. I know this course has been around for a very long time, but it almost seems like they jammed the course in a subdivision community, and not vice versa. I would catagorize it as an executive course with a 1970s country club feel.
Love the course, the other folks playing it, not so much.
I have played this course several times this summer and really like the track. It is a challenging, well maintained, mature golf course with helpful staff, but is struggling with its identity as a public vs. private course. The problem I have run into repeatedly here is a lack of basic golf courtesy by others playing the course. Playing as a single, I was behind a foursome who refused to let me play through although I waited on every shot for 5 holes. A group behind me called the clubhouse and with their intervention, I was finally able to play through. This is not the first time I have faced this issue at this course.
Beautiful old, previously private course. Great greens and narrow fairways.
Mature course, short but challenging. Great greens. Key here is to keep the ball in the fairway. Know when not to hit your driver. Tree lined narrow fairways. Great staff, good food, great value.
Nice little course, narrow fairways
Played really slow, not used to this! Lot of seniors (ladies), so I guess it couldn't be avoided, but we usually play in 3 1/2 hrs. Still had fun.
Nice course, a little tight.
This is a nice course that is a good value. It was a little tight for my liking. Good pace of play. Nice greens.
Well established course.
Narrow fairways, big trees and a fair amount of water (some hidden) make this course challenging. Hit the fairways and you will be fine. Miss them and you'll take an extra stroke to get out.
Staff was very friendly and the pace of play was great for a Sunday morning.
Excellent staff
The rangers were always stopping to make sure the speed of play in front of us was acceptable to our group; they even offered us Ice water! restaurant staff was as pleasant as they could be. The starter knew it was our first time on course and offered tips on certain holes.
Not a bad price
Course has been known to be short and very narrow. As the years have passed, they have let the tree's take over, so that getting a good shot off the tee is very difficult- no hitting space.
The tee boxes were in bad shape, and a lot of ball marks on the greens. Under new management and maybe they will put the money into maintenance necessary to bring it up to par.
They are pushing a lot of rounds thru with late afternoon low rates, which is good for value, but very slow play.
Nice and interesting course
The course was very well maintained. You may not want to take out a driver on every hole, since it is a tight course. Greens roll well and are quicker than most other courses. Navigating around the course may be a little difficult, but if you read the signs and follow the cart paths, you will be fine.
Has Been Course - Empty on a Sunday
It is not worth the actual price of $90, but the $45 through GolfNow made it do-able. Having said - horrible hitting bays, no starter, no ranger, bad hole locations. For that price, I suggest going somewhere else.
Great course
One of the better kept courses I've played this year. A spot or two that needed some attention but nothing bad at all.
when you are short on time this is a good quick play
I enjoyed the ease of getting in and out, because of the length of the course there was some serious waiting on the tees for people to hit their third shots. Overall a good experience with nice people in the pro shop.
Short and tight, overpriced with no amenities...tired
This is an old, tight, short golf course. I liked the pace of play and the overall layout is definitely playable. It's just overpriced for what you get: 6200 yards of pretty basic holes. I played on a Sunday morning and there was no snack shop open, no driving range, no starter and just a small putting green to warm up. Similarly, down the street at Sportsman's it has all of those things with a better layout and more challenging holes. I think Mission Hills could do a lot better if they just put some money into the clubhouse (seemingly, in process) and paid some attention to the overall course experience. I probably won't play here again unless I can't get in anywhere else.
