The Woodlands Golf Club
About
Woodlands Golf Club, which sits only 30 minutes from St. Louis, is known for having some of the area's best greens. The putting surfaces roll true and hold well on the approach. This public course has garnered a local following thanks to not only its green conditions but also the affordable rates. With a diverse landscape and unique hole designs, it's definitely a shot-maker's layout. You'll probably use every club in your bag on this golf course. A long creek winds across the entire layout, coming into play on a few holes. There are also strategically placed bunkers that lurk along the greensides. Although Woodlands Golf Club is relatively short at just over 6,400 yards from the back tees, it feels much longer thanks to a variety of elevation changes that range from subtle to dramatic.

Improved
This course is a bit rough in some areas with construction going on. Fairways and greens were MUCH improved since i was there last year. Would not have gone back except for a Golf Now special offer. Glad I did, course has character and with some more care would really be nice. Overall fun course to play but a bit far unless you live in IL or N. STL Cnty..
Decent course near Alton
Woodland is a slightly above average course for St. Louis located north of Alton. If I lived near Alton I would keep it in my rotation of courses to play, but otherwise it is probably not worth the drive.
Pros: Very nice tee boxes and greens (though greens somewhat soft), very friendly staff, fair amount of elevation changes, good pace of play
Cons: Very bumpy golf cart path with lots of puddles in the middle, overall I would say the course does not appear to drain well as both the fairways and sand traps were very wet
First time at the Woodlands
My brother n law and I played on Sunday afternoon at the Woodlands for the first time. We're from STL so Alton is a bit of trek for us but we decided because it was a hot deal and I was willing to drive that we might as well check out a new course. For us city boys this was out in the sticks, but it's really a fun course. The front 9 in my opinion was easier than the back. Not a lot of water and the fairways are fairly wide open so if you shank a drive you can more than likely still play the ball. The back 9 has a creek that runs through several of the holes so you have to deal with that which demands more accuracy off the tee and will iron shots. The greens were rolling slow but they were in good shape. Pace of play is pretty much my pet peeve, I can't deal with standing around for 5 minutes between each shot, that's a quick way to blow a round. The course was wide open, we played at our pace and enjoyed the heck out of it. I left a lot of shots on the course, I'll be back to try to reduce my score now that I have a feel for the place.
Awesome Course
One of the most challenging course I've played this season. Looking forward to playing it after the renovations are completed.
Course has tight holes and wide open holes.
Really enjoyed the course. Now that i have played it an know the holes i can plan better on what to hit off the tee. Found a groupon that works on weekends after 10am and saved $15 a golfer. Greens and fairways are in great shape.
This course is kinda Quirky, but playable
For this time of year, the course is in pretty good shape. Greens were recently aerated, so a little bumpy, but not enough to downgrade them. The course is a little quirky, which means to me it kinda criss crosses around the countryside. Hole 4 is a par 3, you drive up to green, but after finished you have to drive back to tee to go to next hole. Some of the holes are very narrow driving. Some holes are quite short, so I would call this a shotmakers course.
Challenging course
Challenging and fun to play. Great course to improve on your golf game.
staff was extremely nice to us (myself & daughter)
course layout is not difficult nor long so you didn't need to use a driver off of most par4's.
Great Course
The course was in great condition--they arreated the greens, so putting was a little rough. Beautiful day to play golf
Awesome staff and nice clubhouse
Course was in great shape. Fairways took a little hit from the lack of rain this summer, but the course was green and lush for the most part
Average course can be had for discount price
Bunkers were below average. Fairways and greens are good, but not great. Played back tees at 6408 yds. Front side is short and tight (3062) while back is open and longer (3346). Layout is good. Staff was friendly and even suggested calling as they could save me money on taxes and online fees. Course was crowded though. Take advantage of golfnow discounts and you won't be disappointed.
The course offers a wide variety of doglegs, elevation changes, water, open fairways and treelined fairways.
I had a really enjoyable round of golf it did get a little slow after the turn.
overbooked
too many golfers, too close together. okay,I get it, nice weather on a weekend is when courses make money, but it doesn't make for a very enjoyable golf experience, waiting all the time, people from other holes in your fairway, need more spacing with the tee times
Good to play again after a long absence.
The greens were superb. Fairways in great shape and the rough was well cut so that it wasn't too difficult for someone with my limited abilities.
I like this course because it has some unique and challenging hole designs.
I was especially happy with the conditions this time because I was able to introduce this course to a friend of mine who also enjoyed it.
The only issue I have is that you don't get back to the clubhouse until you finish 18. And I didn't see a refreshment cart the whole afternoon. Also only saw one port-a-potty.
Both would make the course much more enjoyable.
I will definitely play again.
Interesting layout
Great value at the discounted rate. Every day greens fee is high for this course.
Very slow
This was the worst visit I've had there, My wife and I like to travel around the St Louis area and play courses all over. My wife isn't very good, but we play very fast. The pace of play was very bad. There was a foresome out there hitting two and three shots after hitting a poor shot. Throwing clubs, the whole bit. I found out later that they were regulars at the course. This is the second time I tried to play there on a Sunday and one of their "regulars" caused a problem while I was there. Last time they sent a guy out by himself and he just skipped around holes, jumping in front of groups, doing whatever he wanted. Maybe a marshall would help. I like the course, I just don't know if I will come back on Sunday anymore.
