The Woodlands Golf Club
About
Woodlands Golf Club, which sits only 30 minutes from St. Louis, is known for having some of the area's best greens. The putting surfaces roll true and hold well on the approach. This public course has garnered a local following thanks to not only its green conditions but also the affordable rates. With a diverse landscape and unique hole designs, it's definitely a shot-maker's layout. You'll probably use every club in your bag on this golf course. A long creek winds across the entire layout, coming into play on a few holes. There are also strategically placed bunkers that lurk along the greensides. Although Woodlands Golf Club is relatively short at just over 6,400 yards from the back tees, it feels much longer thanks to a variety of elevation changes that range from subtle to dramatic.

overbooked
too many golfers, too close together. okay,I get it, nice weather on a weekend is when courses make money, but it doesn't make for a very enjoyable golf experience, waiting all the time, people from other holes in your fairway, need more spacing with the tee times
Good to play again after a long absence.
The greens were superb. Fairways in great shape and the rough was well cut so that it wasn't too difficult for someone with my limited abilities.
I like this course because it has some unique and challenging hole designs.
I was especially happy with the conditions this time because I was able to introduce this course to a friend of mine who also enjoyed it.
The only issue I have is that you don't get back to the clubhouse until you finish 18. And I didn't see a refreshment cart the whole afternoon. Also only saw one port-a-potty.
Both would make the course much more enjoyable.
I will definitely play again.
Interesting layout
Great value at the discounted rate. Every day greens fee is high for this course.
Very slow
This was the worst visit I've had there, My wife and I like to travel around the St Louis area and play courses all over. My wife isn't very good, but we play very fast. The pace of play was very bad. There was a foresome out there hitting two and three shots after hitting a poor shot. Throwing clubs, the whole bit. I found out later that they were regulars at the course. This is the second time I tried to play there on a Sunday and one of their "regulars" caused a problem while I was there. Last time they sent a guy out by himself and he just skipped around holes, jumping in front of groups, doing whatever he wanted. Maybe a marshall would help. I like the course, I just don't know if I will come back on Sunday anymore.
Great customer service. Golf pro is awesome!
Very narrow front nine gave way to a longer, but wide open back nine. Very enjoyable round of golf out in the country.
Needs TLC
The design of the course is very nice. The problem is many holes on the front nine are in very poor attention, specifically the fairways. It's a shame the course is in a state of disrepair because this could be a really nice course. The back nine was in much better condition. I feel the reviews on this course are misleading. I read them before we played today and I thought I was going to be playing a course that was in good condition. Please be advised it is not. But, the greens are in outstanding shape. I just don't understand how their greens could be this nice, yet the fairways could be this bad.
Great course, very slow play
The course itself is in good condition and is interesting and enjoyable, with a few challenges for the amateur. But the pace of play was excruciating. It seems that the management was sending people out to jump into "empty" slots on the course. For example, a fellow tried to start on 10 as we were coming off 9. There were no rangers in evidence to control the pace of play.
Course is fun with enough challenge as well as forgiveness
Pace of play as exceptional, much better than last time I played there. A few tee boxes need attention but the rest of the course was in very good condition.
Course is always well maintained and beautiful.
I love playing the Woodlands course, it's become one of our favorite courses. My girlfriend, who's still learning the game, often suggests we go to the
Woodlands.
Wish I lived closer....
The course has come a long way over the last few years..... from the people who you encounter as you show up to play and the condition of the course as a whole. I know this is breaking the rules but I had the pleasure of playing with a foursome of "mature" gentleman.; which was probably one of the most enjoyable rounds of golf I've played in awhile. You can tell the employees of The Woodlands Golf Club care and really try to make your day enjoyable. I just wish they could move this course a little closer to where I live.
The greens are a delight, beautifully maintained, the ball rolls true and smooth.
The greens were absolutely the best feature of this course. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. The overall course condition was a disappointment and the pace of play was extremely slow. Standing on the 17th tee there were 7 groups between 17 tee and 18 green. I would not recommend this course to my friends.
Easy access and direction to course
Course is in good condition and it looks like they are making strides to improve. There were a couple of fairways being repaired and will be great when finished.
Very impressed with the new management and how well the course conditions were in due to the amount of rainfall we've had.
This used to be my home golf course in high school, so getting around it for me wasn't too difficult. The greens were in perfect shape. The fairways were great, and I couldn't have been any happier with the conditions of this course. Great job to the staff, and for $20 on a beautiful Friday afternoon, no complaints here.
Nice layout, worth playing for a deal only though.
Course was in ok condition, rough is patchy, greens rock hard. Looks like it got hit by a flood on holes 3,4,6. 30 yards of fairway on 6 before the creek are completely washed out. Also had to wait 10 minutes for a groundskeeper to finish watering a fairway, which is fine, however he left the hose on the fairway which my ball ended up rolling into.
Good layout. Most holes are wide open, a few require some precision off the tee. Some good dog legs, definitely makes you use every club in your bag.
Usually one of my favorite courses to get out during the week however I've had numerous negative experiences with the groundskeepers and league players. I'll only play here when its a really great deal from now on.
Fun Course
As always, the course always is better when GOLFNOW offers a deal for 16.00! The holes vary throughout the course so they do give you the opportunity to play different clubs out of your bag. The greens weren't in great shape but were good. I always like to see the staff working on the course when I am playing. I feel that they are working to keep the course in good condition.
Hole 8 had sewer porblems in the past so it has about 20 yards of dirt in the landing area which is not the best but they have created a drop zone there. I guess you could work on your hardpan shots there if you want though.
My favorite part was that they give you a course guide detailing the holes and what clubs you may want to hit. As a result, I did not use of GPS all day!
great value
Visited from out of town and was pleasantly surprised. Nice layout with a few challenges, but course appeared to need some attention. Lots of ground under repair and several areas unkempt. Paid $6.00 walk at 3:00 in May...great deal! On the downside, course is not very walker friendly. Some holes require you walk along cart path to next hole. One par 3 makes you walk an extra 100 yards.
tricky greems
nice and fun! the greens are pretty tough but if you can deal with them there is low numbers to be had
Nice small greens, well maintained
Several of the fairways were sloppy wet, but we recently had a storm and then more rain after that. Beautiful scenery and course layout. I will visit Woodland several more time before the year end. I had a wonderful time. Hot Dogs are very good as well.
Only play if you are a fast golfer and don't mind unmanaged play.
What can I say beautiful course, decent amenities, friendly clubhouse staff even the course manager seems very nice. Unfortunately all this is ruined by the course ranger and a mob rules mentality of course management. When you have a tee time that you are 45 minutes early for and you are 45 minutes late teeing off there is already something wrong. It was a busy day and they were obviously allowing walk-ins to double book tee times. They were also allowing people to go out in 2 somes instead of making 4 somes. I was on the 14th hole when the course ranger came up to our 4 some and told us to speed along play that the four different 2 somes behind us were complaining. Of course the 2 some behind us was moving slower that they would like. Mind you we were waiting at every tee box for the party in front of us. When I told the ranger that not once all day had the 2 some behind us been at the tee box behind us, but had been purposely staying back and hitting balls up on us he seemed not to care and told us to just speed it along. I suggest that if the players (who had never asked to play through) be allowed to play through) he did not make that happen. The party behind us hit on us again on the next hole so we abandoned play. I have never had a situation like this in nearly 30 years of golfing and will not be going back to this course. It is a shame too because the couse itself is pretty nice. Shame they don't put as much care into managing the course play as they do into course aesthetics.
