First and only time playing this one
I usually browse other reviews on this site before trying out a new course. The reviews for this course are generally bad but I thought I'd play 18 here to judge for myself. I should've listened to the previous reviews...
Pros: Can't beat 15 bucks for 18 holes (walking rate) even if it is at a below average course. The price point is just about right for what you are going to get, which isn't much. The clubhouse and parking lot are nice. Pace of play was great because we were about the only people playing the course on a nice Friday morning. That's about all I have for pros...
Cons: I'll start with the layout of the course. To be frank, whoever designed the course, didn't take walkers or first time players into account. At times it can feel like a maze trying to find your way to the next tee box. Some of the distances from green to the next tee box are a flat out hike. For a shorter course from the tips (6100ish yards), the total distance walked over 18 holes was close to 7 miles for me. The hole design can become repetitive with many short par 4's that really don't require too much thought. Driver or 3 woods all day. There is only one hole which forces you to decide to try and carry a water hazard with driver or lay up with a long iron before the hazard. Tee boxes are a mess of weeds and bare patches already this early in the year. Parts of the greens are diseased and there are numerous unrepaired ball marks and what looked like putter slam marks. Drainage is terrible. Standing water many places and the whole course felt like it was a marshland. Cart paths at some places aren't really worth of even being called a path. I really can only think of two courses that were in worse shape when I played them. Both of them are closed now...
Verdict: I'll just leave it at this...my golfing partner today maybe gets out 10 times a year and he is very generous with his praise of almost every course we go to. Once he was done with 9 holes, he quit for the day. When we were driving back home, he told me that even though the price looked great, it wasn't worth trying to struggle through that course in that type of condition. He politely asked me that we never play that course again.
I'd like to think that I played the course on just a bad day but based on other reviews and the fact that it should be in descent shape at this time of the year but isn't, tells me that this course is a one and done for me.
TERRIBLE
The course itself was very affordable, however, the conditions of the course were pathetic. The rain (from the previous week) may not have helped the course conditions but it seemed as if they hadn't attempted to care of the course in a very long time. The owner or whomever gave me my receipt was very rude and didn't make our experience better. They should look to value their customers more and focus on taking care of their course. Don't waste your money even with the affordable prices they have. In essence, you get what you pay for. 1/5
Swampy Mess After Rain
I've played this course for years, but it seems to get worse and worse. The drainage is non-existent, so please stay away from this course after rain. Barely a dry spot to be found, and cart paths are ridiculous. They just don't seem to care about the course conditions. Has potential, and has a decent layout, but is just in horrible shape. I know it's early April, and conditions will improve, but based on the last couple years, it won't be by much. Very disappointing.
The drainage on the course is terrible. Giant rutts in the cart path, standing water every where.
Great price
I really like this course. Pace of play is always great and it's a perfect course intermediate player.
Beginners course
First impression was from the pro shop staff. Rude, not helpful. A interesting designed course with a few good holes. Its a course for beginners and players of lower ability. Conditions are fair at best, maintenance is basic. Disappointed in employee training. Rudeness must be the norm. Was yelled at by the grass cutter of the day. Tossing a rake into the poorly maintaned bunker so my wife could rake it after she played. He commented on if that's how we treat your clubs. Should have left the bunker like the players before us UNRAKED. Irritating how we were charged weekend rates and midway on the back nine the same grass cutter mentioned earlier was verticutting the greens. Mid day on a sunday, primetime, and only three or four greens!!! As I said earlier. Bad management...
Wouldn't recommend this course to anyone.
Great Course - Too Hot
We enjoyed our round at Antioch Golf Club very much. The course is well maintained with challenging greens. Sometimes hard to figure out where the next tee is, though everyone on the course was very helpful. Would have been an excellent day if it wasn't over 100 degrees and humid, oh, and the yellow jackets. Fortunately I'm not allergic. They have an excellent grill with sports drinks available.
Low Quality
Course is in bad shape. Most tee boxes are patches of weeds and dirt. Hot deal makes it almost worth it. Full price would be ridiculous.
Weak course conditions
With a wedding building, good staff, and quick play, the course seems like a great time. The course is manageable for your scores but since the conditions are not very good (fairways, greens, and bunkers) it makes this course more tough than it should be.
decent course on the right day
The course looked really nice from outside, but greens were over watered and the fairways and tees were hard as a rock. Might have just went on a bad day. Club house was nice and food was amazing. Pace of play was good, fairways were a bit close though, had to wait on 4 holes for someone to play their ball out of my fairway. For the price though, it is a good looking course.
nice course.not that much long.not easy.
Very friendly course.some course is confused.but it's ok.with family and friend.I recommend.
Good Value
Average course surrounded by homes. Back nine tougher than front. Good condition. had a few memorable holes that required challenging target golf. I'd play it again.
Fun course to play
I've played this course a couple of times now and have really enjoyed it each time. This last round, I found the fairways and the greens to be a little beat up. Overall, the course is fun, challenging and reasonably priced.
Friendly Staff
Great 19th hole and good specials, will recommend to anyone.
Antioch Golf Wetness
If you enjoy playing through the sprinklers in the front half go for it. That must be why they have discounted prices!
We'll kept course
I thought this course was very nice to play personnel was very friendly would recommend this course to friends
course management
somewhat narrow fairways on some holes water holes and bunkers makes for keeping the ball in the fairways.
Course has improved
I have played this course off and on for years. This year although early I found the course to be in fantastic condition. I am totally supprised that Antioch golf course is in my top 5. Keep up the good work!
Cold and Windy but fun
What can you expect on December 27 in Northern Illinois? Golf is a bonus at this time of year. Course was in great shape. Hope to get a few more rounds in before Spring.
