Always a solid 4 stars
OV receives an extreme amount of play. Normally packed to the gills the very hot weather kept many away from playing on Wednesday afternoon. Most fortunate to play in under 3 hours never held up by anyone in front of us. OV is in decent shape....the lack of rain has the fairway running extremely hard and fast. It was nice to see they are replenishing sand in places - GUR for the huge front right trap on #8 as well as the fronting traps on #15.....probably others but those were the two I noticed. Halfway house where you get range balls was closed but they did have roving beverage cart. A nice jug of ice cold water was operational on the 12th tee box. And restrooms with running water after 4&7 front after 13&15.
Greens were in decent shape rolling okay however a lot of old ball marks to fix on a few putts.....fault the players more so than the grounds crew....repair your ball marks, rake traps and sand your divots please!!! Had a perfect drive on 14 end up in a divot that was dug to China. Hope the idiot who made that divot and didn't sand receives the wrath of Golf Gods multiple times. Nice to see OV hosts Batavia HS team who were going out as we were finishing.
OV has a really fun routing with plenty of water to fend off. Some nice green complexes providing short stick challenge. A number of short par 4's and if you can keep your ball in play you can post a good score. Several par 5's are reachable in two....most especially with the fairways running out so much right now.
Thanks for a wonderful afternoon to all at OV. Highly recommend play. Book your tee times early as day before and day of decent times can be hard to come by. Cheers!!
Staff was very helpful and cheerful
The women at the concession by the range was extremely polite and very cheerful. Made the round better.
First Time Back in a While - Pleasantly Surprised
I used to play Orchard frequently but a few years ago the course condition seemed to really be slipping versus other comparaby priced courses. In addition, the pace of play had become brutally slow and wasn't marshalled. This time out, none of that was the case. The course maintenance seemed to have really stepped up, the greens and bunkers were well maintained and we finished in just over 4:15. If this is what I can expect from a course that has always been more interesting and challenging than its peer courses since it opened, I will be back again and again from now on.
Only complaint what is that starter allowed the group behind us to tee off too early and for the entire round we felt pressured. The group behind us was constantly hitting into us and we were always waiting on the group ahead. Could have been spaced out much better
Nice!
Great course for a first time play. Needs good wedge play for long hitters. Bunkers needs work but overall a good track. Beware of seniors though ☺️.
SLOW!
We waited on every shot at least two to three minutes. Groups in front were slow and no ranger or any staff on the course to move things along. No starter to move things along either.
Beautiful course
The course was exceptionally well maintained and the greens were true with consistent speed throughout the 18 holes. A great blend of strategic shots and swing away. There are many picturesque views on the course. I hope to be able to play it again.
Orchard Valley
Course conditions good however traps had no racks and had no been turned over so they were concrete and unplayable
