About
Bartlett Hills Golf Club has been a favorite Chicagoland golf destination since it first opened in 1929. To keep the layout up to modern standards, it has undergone many changes over the years but it still has the same classic character. At 6,463 yards from the back tees, this traditional layout might not be long but it still provides a fair test. Rather than distance, the golf course demands smart play and accurate shot placement thanks to narrow, tree-lined fairways and several tricky doglegs. You might not have many chances to use your driver but you'll definitely get some iron practice. There isn't too much trouble off of the tees at Bartlett Hills G.C. But greenside you'll be faced with nearly 30 strategically placed bunkers and water hazards come into play on seven holes, which include some forced carries.

Greens fast as lightning
Bartlett Hills course was in very good shape but the course did not drain well from earlier morning rains. There were several spots of standing water on the fairways. Despite the rain, the greens were incredibly fast and had many hidden breaks to them, which made putting very challenging for the day. The course is long but fair but the greens make this a challenging course to achieve pars. Three putts are much more common than 1 of 2 putts.

Great value and round was complete in 4 hours!
Bartlett had done a great job with this course. Played it a lot back in the 90’s and it’s that much better now!

Friendly staff
It would be nice to have ball washers every few holes and water coolers at least once in each nine. Also, all the trash cans are always overflowing anytime I have played here. Course rangers and staff are the best!!!

Fun Round
Course is in good shape. Greens are fast and undulated for a fun challenge! Only disappointment was 1 group slowing everyone down and made it a 5 hour round. It didn't seem like the rangers were doing anything about it. At some point you need to tell the folks to pick up and move on to the next hole.

No way this is a 4.2 average...more like a 3.6 or 3.7
I had to look up the last time I played and reviewed Bartlett Hills. Almost 6 years ago - 9/1/16. The course is better conditioned than 6 years ago but the reviews below drastically over rate this place. If you've played Hilldale and White Pines...Bartlett is kind of a cross between the two of them. Several over treed holes in need of a chainsaw. Several tight areas to shoe horn drives. Getting a few yards off the fairway you are punching out. Greens are fast/smooth but hard as a rock. Rough is overly long and very lush.
The two carts we had the parking brakes did not function well - impossible to engage or even know it was engaged. My right leg is warn out by stamping on the brake to keep the cart from rolling away. Really a dangerous situation and one you shouldn't have to constantly fight throughout the round.....extremely irritating. A/B/C designations on the cart for pin positions. Unfortunately the pro shop told us the wrong letter....and it took us a few holes to discover this. Course yardages are poorly marked - don't believe the sprinkler heads and even my Garmin was wildly off.....some the discs denoting 100/150 yards are off as well. Thankfully we had a rangefinder and depended on that. Traps look maintained but most are dust over hardpan. The greens are overly fast/smooth and any downhiller requires an extremely precise touch.
Our group experienced numerous rim outs and rim ins - more prevalent than you would usually experience during a round. Several cups had edge damage or just were not cut very well. One of my playing partners (a first timer) remarked how many of holes were similar.....down and then up - too much sameness hole design for him.
I recommend the course for play but there's no way this is a 4.2 average you other reviewers...... 3.7 at most....Hilldale does have a nice clubhouse with deck to watch the action on the Par 3 eighteenth. I'll take a couple more years off from playing here. ....it's an every other year course at best.
At the end of this review I meant to say "Bartlett Hills does have a nice clubhouse....." my apologies....the course conditions/trees/grasses and speed do play much like Hilldale!

Unprofessional
I reserved a tee time only to find they were not letting carts go out. I was not notified that was the case and my reservation fee was not refunded. With so many courses available to play, why would I want to come back here?
We are very sorry for the inconvenience you experienced at the course. Sounds like you prepaid on GolfNow. When this is the case, no money is paid to the pro-shop so there is no money that is owed back from the course. If you call GolfNow, they would be happy to rectify the situation.
