South Shore Golf Club
About
South Shore Golf Club was formerly a private nine-hole course but now it is part of the Chicago Park District Golf collection, which features five other courses. Although it is seemingly out of the way, tucked in the southeast corner of the Chicago metro area, it is one of the most affordable rounds you'll find in the area. Through the stands of mature trees, golfers can catch glimpses of Lake Michigan. The carefully preserved landscape has earned the golf course recognition as an Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary. The par-33 layout features tree-lined fairways and small greens. It's a golf course that requires accuracy but it's not overly punishing for high handicappers. South Shore Golf Club is a great course if you're looking to get some short game practice or squeeze in a quick round.

Awesome and quick course
I play here at least 1-2 times a week. Close to the house, best bang for your $$$, and easy course. Highly recommended
Good course ruined by exceptionally slow pace of play
No enforcement of pace of play. Rangers will straight up tell you that you didn’t pay enough money for them to stop groups from play 30min per hole scramble rounds.
Otherwise a decent course at a very reasonable rate. Off course amenities are bare bones but that’s ok for a city course.
Wish they would actually keep pace of play to at least 15min a hole and then this place would be a real gem
Fantastic except the pace was absurd
We were super rushed by the couple behind us. We would tee off when the party in front of us reach the green, as long as it was out of driving distance, per normal etiquette and while about 150 yards into the walk to our drives they were already firing away. The Ranger was clueless and just kind of hanging out. All that said overall a solid deal for a quick and quite nice 9. Solid lakeside views on 6
Nice and convenient
Easy to get to. Easy to play. No water traps but plenty of sand. Hole 6 has the best view of all local courses. Highly recommended.
Always a good time
My buddies and I dip off to hit 9 a few times a month during the day when work is slow. Easy in, easy out, and at a good pace. Amenities aren’t 5star but can’t beat the location, price, and staff friendliness. We lost a 5 iron and someone picked it up and found us. We love playing South Shore especially taking our routine 6th hole pic. Great times had by all.
Great experience
Glad to be able to play on a course that's not SOAKED/WATER LOGGED. Bunkers ON COURSE and in practice area need new SAND UPGRADE/REPLACEMENT. I recommend
Long Time No See
I played this interesting course on October 20th. I arrived after work at around 4:00. It’s been over 20 years since I last visited this “Poor Man’s Pebble Beach.” The staff members were genuinely polite and reasonably attentive. I’ll readily admit there was something special in the air that day. The temperature was unseasonably warm and no real wind at all. The sky was clear and bright in a Fall sort of way. As I remembered the course is compact and requires some modicum of accuracy to yield desired results. There are a few long par four holes (two, three, and six). Maybe my tee shots have just gotten shorter with age! The greens are fairly well kept and roll smoothly. I’m a high ball hitter, so I didn’t have any problems holding the greens; but if you hit lower running shots just aim for the front and skip the ball up. Yes, there are the Lake Michigan water views on a few holes. And the sixth hole views near the green are restful and engaging. No rush, no crowd, no problems. Maybe your short round will be as fulfilling as mine. Enjoy.
Good course for money and location
This is a good fun course. Not many traps and great views.
Good for a quick 9
Conveniently located and fairly easy course with limited traps. Great for beginners to intermediates.
Great course for novice golfers
The course is a great 9 hole course that is well maintained. Very good place for beginners.
Old Classic
Very interesting track that has obviously been of historic value for some time. Incredible views of skyline and Lake Michigan. In its day I suspect it was jewel of a course!!
Friendly and helpful golfers and srtaff
Easy and comfortable.
I enjoyed buying a beer and sipping along the way in he golf cart.
Single players would easily pass us up.with no hesitation from the groups.
