Play it before it disappears.
Now that it's open to the public, go check it out.
Lots of old large trees. Course is generally in decent shape considering everything. Beautiful course and nice layout with no homes in play. Greens are not flat, but predictable and in good shape. Rough is a bit long. Nice value overall. I will play it again soon.
nice course -no staff
The course layout at Calumet Country club is excellent ; however, there are some issues. Many (most) of the tees are poorly marked which can be confusing trying to find the next tee box. The sand traps are not being maintained (we just threw the ball out and chipped over). The fairways and greens are in great condition.
I attempted to purchase 3 bottles of water about 1:30 pm and there was no one in the entire facility. I stopped back again when done (about2:45) and still no one around. Very odd with various merchandise just lying around.
Nice layout and challenging, but needs some TLC
Saw a HotDeal on a former private Donald Ross course open to the public for the first time. We played the White tees at 6,326 yds, but with only a par 71 it plays like 6,500 yds which is too long for my game. The greens were smooth, but slow and we all had trouble getting to the hole. The bunkers were really rough with bare spots and lots of weeds. It's a tight challenging course with a couple of 200+ yds par 3's and finishes with two 500+ yds par5's, and a couple of 399 & 423 yd par 4's. I was hitting a bunch of 3 woods for my 2nd shots. The clubhouse was closed, but they had a grill going with Brats and Burgers out front. No cart girl or drinking water on the course and no alcohol is served. The staff was very friendly. It's a nice classic layout, but the course needs some work before we'd play it again.
Scenic views
Great course. We’ll manicured and challenging.
Will return. Hope they don’t sell.
Better conditions than last year
Fairway, rough and greens in great shape. Only one green was partly chewed up and wilted like last year. Some bunkers a bit rough but played in way worse. Parts of the course away from the fairways/greens need a facelift (aesthetics and beauty of the overall course) but we rarely found terrible lies and unkept grass. Weekday round was 4 hours and we let a twosome and two other singles play through. No clubhouse food so bring enough snacks/drinks. If coming purely for the golf and a quick round, definitely play here. Fun, value filled on a classic layout.
Calumet C.C.
Great Donald Ross course. Excellent shape and conditions. Bunkers could use some refurbishing however; greens were perfect, fairways were terrific.
Staff was friendly and helpful.
Pace of play was outstanding. We teed off at 9:00 A.M. and finished at 12:50 P.M.
Highly recommend this Chicago classic.
Calumet Country Club - first time playing here
For a course that's been around since 1901, it was great. It went from a private to public course a few years ago and each year there are hints it may be sold but 4 years later it's still here. Other than some weeds in a number of the bunkers, course is in good shape.
Weird
First time there. Seems like it use to be a great facility. Front door to the building is locked, go around to the back to find the pro shop, and the first tee box. Bar/restaurant and patio are a ghost town, seems like it hasent been used ina couple years. Staff is super relaxed and laid back, which is cool with navigating rain conditions . The 65$ or so was expensive for the country club well past its prime. Could be a cool course if it was cleaned up with an opened bar.
