A shame
You can tell that it was a great course awhile ago, but now they should consider their options. Either put alot of work into maintenance, or just give it up. I should note that the gentleman that was on his own, when we arrived, was great! Very professional and courteous. But that was about all I can share.
Great layout
Great old course. Does show some wear. Only staff there was Chris, and does a great job. I hope they can save this Jewel!
Play it while you can
Been a consistent local stop ever since it went public. Too bad it’s going away as this is a great track. Layout is fantastic, traditional country club, lot of fun to play.
But here we are in 2021. Course is going away which is a shame. But conditions are hanging in there as of May 2021. Greens were rolling nicely; Some dead spots sure but fast and smooth. Fairways and tee boxes have some weed patches but fine for play. Wish we could go back to its hay day but playing it now is still a worth your money and the layout is fantastic.
Let’s give a Chicago send out to this classic gem!!

NOT WORTH THE COST.
Pace of was very slow. Greens in very poor shape, and no Ranger insite..5 HR ROUND! NOT WORTH THE $$$$.
This Once Great Course Deserves a Merciful End.
Calumet Country Club was founded in 1901. Originally located at 95th street and Cottage Grove Ave, the country club moved to its current location in 1917. This Donald Ross designed course was host to several PGA Tour Tournaments including the Western open. In 1956 the course underwent a major revision when the club lost 23 acres to eminent domain for construction of the Tri-State Tollway. While not the same Donald Ross original PGA course, the private club remained a luxurious facility for decades. That unfortunately is no longer the case. The surrounding area has become industrial and dilapidated and the club became financially unsustainable. The Country Club is essential gone and the course is now open to the public. The property has been sold to developers who intend to build a warehouse and logistics center. In the meantime the course remains open, but it cannot command the green fees sufficient to maintain anything close to its original grandeur. Sadly the course has become what can only be described as a rotting corpse of the former beauty that it had always been. The grounds are not maintained, the club house is boarded up, the fairways are contaminated with broadleaf. Dead and even fallen trees are left to rot on site. The greens are diseased and cachectic. Out of respect the members should have just shut the course down when they could no longer maintain it and let this Donald Ross Course die with dignity.
On Life Support
Sad to see this Donald Ross beauty go under.
We had a 9am pre-paid tee time that included carts, so the thinking was, get there by 8:30, hit the range, chip and putt then play. WRONG!
Range was closed, practice green was roped off and no one from the club was any where to be seen. Clubhouse was empty and closed. Other golfers began to arrive; all of us wondering if the course was open. At 8:58 the garage at the back of the parking lot opened and a solo teenager drove a cart to the 1st tee and asked if anyone else needed a cart... Yes said about 8 players. We waited for the second cart for our group and teed off 10 minutes late. Horrible way to run a golf course in my humble opinion. Will never spend $ there again.
Wait For Me
Waited for the other 2 players and then has to wait to on the course.
