Calumet Country Club
Played as twosome with wife and actually course was not crowded. We teed off half hour before scheduled time of noon. Only bad comments would pertain to several greens and lack of sand in some traps. Don't remember how many greens but several had ruts and uneven grass. They were slow to putt and the greens are huge, so easy to three putt. Tee boxes and fairways were in very good condition. It was 47 degrees and 15-20 mph winds so the round was not enjoyable. Hopefully the greens will get better with time this year, but their condition was lacking at this time. Very challenging course, so play from correct tees. I started on white and switched to gray.

Best Value Donald Ross Course
This is the best value Donald Ross course I have played. Easily the best over all experience I have had on a daily fee to date in Chicago. On a beautiful Saturday in late April we teed off at 3:00 and got in a perfectly paced 27 holes. It had the feel of a turn of the century club in Scotland that has just been forgotten with a classic Ross Chicago parkland design.
The condition of the course is perfect, with the exception of maybe 5 or 6 greens that are admittedly rough. If they get the spotty greens right going into the Summer and they get them rolling it will be one of the coolest golf courses in Chicago.
A morning round at Calumet and a brat at Ravisloe before a 2:00 tee time might be the single greatest way one can experience Donald Ross.
A must play
The courses in great shape very challenging a couple of greens need a little work but overall a great course to play
Good early season conditions / fantastic deals
CCC is one of my favorite courses to play in Chicago. Course was in really good shape for April. We were also able to walk 18 in under 3.5 hours.
Rough shape
This is a great old course, former private CC. But since turning public is had gone a bit downhill. The range and putting greens were closed today due basically to rot on the grass (every course I have played this year has had the range open). There was no starter which was bad since there was a frost delay and there was a lot of tee box confusion. The greens were horribly slow...like ridiculously slow. And in pretty bad shape. Lots of rotted grass on the fairways. Sad to see such a great course not cared for.
NEVER GOING BACK
I’ve never been treated so poorly in my adult life. I was there early for my tee time. First one there. No cars. Nothing open. Tees off to go. Guy shagged me down on #4 and the next thing I know it’s f@%k this and f&*k that. I was in the wrong to go off even if they weren’t staffed etc. That is no reason to treat someone like that. I’ll never give them my money again and will never recommend anyone play there. Worst golf service in my life.
Greens are stiill really crappy don't bother playing (yet)
A $32 w/cart Easter afternoon offer intrigued me but I didn't make a tee time.. Based my 9/4/20 round (see that review below) with really bumpy/bouncy/diseased greens and disappointment with them I made sure upon arrival I walked from the parking lot directly to the 9th green with a putter and ball. Same really subpar horrible conditions unfortunately,....even early in the season and this after a first cut and roll?? I immediately called Ravisloe from the lot and went right over there & happily paid $17 more. I can't recommend play at Calumet CC until such time I see a number of reviews that reflect decent to even average putting conditions from players with multiple reviews I can trust......otherwise just be prepared for really slow sandpaper bouncy greens.....takes half the challenge out of the course. A $30 - $35 value at best given the condition of the greens. I hate saying that but it's the truth...crying shame because it's got a nice old school routing. Fix the greens please but I doubt that will happen since the course was sold and this may be the very last year of Calumet CC. Play it once if you haven't played it .
Course has a classic old school Ross layout.
Classic Donald Ross design. Well placed bunkers and tight fairways make a fun challenge. Only down side is the condition of the greens and tee boxes, greens were brown and dead and even some had bare spots. This use to be a well known private course but went public a few years back. They really let the course go which is sad because this once was a gem.
