About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2022.
Gleneagles County Club is home to two 18-hole golf courses, the Red and White. Opened in 1924, both courses have traditional layouts that have withstood the test of time. The Red Course, also known as the Lakes, is the longer of the two. Water hazards come into play on several holes, including what is considered the club's best par 3. The Red's 16th is a 170-yard hole that plays directly into the wind to an elevated green that is protected in front by a pond. It's a tough green to hit but a relatively easy one to putt. Both Gleneagles golf courses appeal to a wide range of skill levels, which is one reason why the club is known as the "Home of the Shotgun Start," serving as host to hundreds of golf outings every year.

Terrible sand traps
This course used to be in much better condition. The sand traps were terrible, like hardened clay or mud, certainly no sand or at least not much of it. The rest of the course was in fair condition.
time for condos
Not a golf course. Glorified driving range. $58 for 18 holes on a 5500 yard farm? Thats all it is folks. Flat wide open with rye grass for fairway, rough, and greens. Greens just happen to be cut skightly shorter than fairway and rough. You have to be crazy to golf here knowing that in advance. Save $10 and go to big run. If this is to remain a golf course and not turned into a strip mall, corn field, or condos, then it is worth no more than $20 for greens fees. This course is the reason public golf is dyeing. Overpriced, overbooked, and poorly managed facility. Stay away!!
Great course - great value!
Played the Red course with friends. Given the amount of rain in the past week, he course was in very good condition. I'll be back...
Nice course
Beautiful place to play. There are some tough water holes. Would be nice if they gave you the yardage correctly for each hole. Some of the signs were missing. I prefer the white course to the red.
Decent Course
My son and I walked on Sunday at 2pm and finished in 4 hours. Course was wide open and in decent shape. Staff was friendly. Course had some challenging holes but is pretty straight forward.
Need to keep the ranger out all day
Pace of play was OK while the ranger was out circling the course, once he was done for the day, the pace slowed to a crawl. Course was in good shape except for a few greens that needed some care, but have seen that with many courses in the area this spring.
winter damage
the greens have winter damage that is the case of a lot of the courses in northern Illinois(as was documented in the Chicago Tribune 5/3/14) but they are trying to fix it-the rough was very long-but would definitely go back & play it again.
ALWAYS WELL MAINTAINED
Play here often ,combines challenging holes with a handful of long par 4's and water to carry &challenge your game .The greens usually roll very true and were in great shape for middle of November!!!! You can choose to play Red or White course ,both maintained equally well ,with the Red playing a little more difficult Food is also very good, with the on course Hot Dogs ,the best around
I don't think it's fair to judge a course this late in the season, but it was in good shape.
Course was nice, in good shape for October 30 th. I wouldn't say too much negative at this time of year, just glad to be able to play !
Pleasantly surprised. Will play again.
Played this for the 1st time. $12.00 Hot Deal. Was not sure what I was in for. The course was well maintained. The course looked easy enough until you got to the greens. Pleanty of slope, break, and well placed bunkers. I will be back. The only issue we had was it was a little confusing navigating from hole to hole. There are two courses and the paths were not very well marked.
some tricky holes
needs a little tlc, bunkers and some greens, over all nice place to play
Don't play this course
The course was in terrible condition, the cashier(s) were incredibly rude and not prepared to deal with a Sunday morning crowd.
Good course
Everything was great except there was no beverage cart on a hot day should have oN saturday morning/ afternoon. Also ranger was pushing us to speed up because of upcoming outing, when we were keeping up with other four some, even let threesome play thru. Nice course tough. Great lunch afterward in bar.
relaxing
no homes...no pressure...you pay...you get your cart...you play...no hassles....tee fairways and greens all bent grass....no tall rough.....nice place to eat or drink afterwards....what's not to like ???
Very playable.
Old time course, small greens and narrow fairways, what it lacks in distance makes up for in need for precision irons. Par 3s are long and challenging. Well maintained. good pace.
Great Local Course
I enjoy playing this course as it is just a few minutes away from my home. The course is maintained, not too crowded during weekdays and the pace is ok.
Fast greens, Challenging, not high priced.
First time playing there. Didn't know my way around. Staff seems to love their early weekend regulars. Didn't seem to get any help even after saying "this is my first time here" I'm giving this one more chance this weekend...
Not a great course but cheap
A real no-frill golf course that is well maintained. Not very challenging holes with minimum hazards. I played the White course and don't recall any water hazard holes. Several sand traps that were shallow on firm (1" of sand on concrete). The course layout is almost all straight, maybe 2 or 3 doglegs which made playing each hole like over and over again. I only payed $15 with cart on a weekday evening so can't really complain.
Good Local Course at Best
I play these 2 courses alot. They are O.K. courses with nothing special. The maintanance people are constantly in the way of golf play and the GC Staff doesn't seem concerned about rectifying those complaints. This is not a $50 + course. It costs $28.00 for the Sr. rate all year long. Like I said, its a good course to play at those rates. There are much better courses within 1 or 2 miles if your going to pay more.
