Ruffled Feathers Golf Club
About
Ruffled Feathers Golf Club in Lemont is conveniently situated just a half hour outside downtown Chicago. Pete Dye and his son P.B. collaborated to design the course, making it the only Dye design in the Chicago area. A well thought-out strategy will be greatly rewarded on this challenging layout and bad shots made without any thought will be severely punished. This is definitely not a golf course where you can just grip it and rip it. The fairways are fairly straight and forgiving, but most of the approach shots play to tricky elevated greens. There are also strategically placed bunkers framing the greens and water hazards come into play on several holes as well. Ruffled Feathers Golf Club's par 3s have a reputation for being particularly challenging. But depending on how windy it is, the final hole might present the most formidable challenge.

Ruff
Course in ruff shape, to much goose droppings on fairways. Tee boxes beatup,Cart paths only on dry days confusing. Course in the past has been impeccable… what happened.would recommend only if they offer a deal.
Good for target golf
Nice track. Unfortunately, the group in front are not following guidelines on repairing ball marks. Rakes are not placed at every bunker.
Everything is fine except the sand traps (as usual)
Several reviews where folks have had bad experiences at Ruffled. I've played here four times this season and this was the first time we had to practically DEMAND to play through a group who initially refused to do so. The had two holes open in front of them and they accomplished that on the front nine! Other than that course was in the usual shape - decent greens and fairways and cruddy traps. 3.9 stars. They also overcharge on their orange whips and other beverages a tad. I enjoy RF it's a lot of fun requires thought and never plays the same. Ruffled has shown significant conditioning improvement from a just few years ago. The bad reviews are because for what they charge to play most avid golfers do expect a more of pristine course. Recommend a play or two here. $55 senior rate Mon-Thurs is a decent deal especially for the quality of the overall design and challenge. Any more than that and I'd have a beef too.....
What happened to this place?
Ruffled Feathers is a Pete Dye course and it used to be in nice shape. I noticed about four years ago it had gone waaaaay downhill -- just horrible condition. Not much better now. I assumed back then the ownership change had gone awry, but that's no longer an excuse. Bunkers were atrocious. Greens were just OK. Fairways looked like they had been strip-mined in a 20th-century land war. And off the fairways...it looked like the course had been abandoned.
Even the outing we hosted was a mess. The pro shop was taking tee times after 10:30 for a 1:00 shotgun outing that had the whole course, so even at 1:45 there were non-outing groups still on the 12th (the 12th!) hole. On our first tee there were *four* groups on the same hole. We were on pace for a six-hour round when I gave up on the back nine.
What happened to this place? It's sad to see.
Rough Feathers
This course is charging a premium pricing for a course in rough condition. There are no rangers and they have singles out on a holiday weekend. We had a single lady that kept hitting into us with no where to go. With the course loaded with golfers. The staff was very nice but course really needs some attention. I can play ten local muni’s with better conditions for less $$$$
Beat up and slow today
Greens are in the worst shape I’ve ever seen them in four years, and the pace was brutally slow.
I left after nine holes
Pete Dye-abolical
Great course, great shape. If you haven’t yet played a Pete Dye course, it’s like a right of passage for golfers. Course management is key (even the drop zones are in tough spots), but the field is in great shape! Played back-to-back Friday and Saturday - would come back again Sunday if traffic back into the city wasn’t so awful.
3rd round at Ruffled this season
RF is in very good shape right now. Greens were receptive as we played after a downpour of about 1/2 inch mid-day. Pace of play was very good - slightly over 3 hours as the tee sheet was pretty empty between noon and 1pm. $55 senior rate is a tad pricey but the layout and challenges (130 slope from the white tees!) this course presents make it worth the $55....but $45 would be about right mark. In addition RF do charge way too much for beverages - playing partner at the turn wanted a John Daly and that cost $10! All of the employees that work here were fantastic to interact with. I've now had 3 really nice experiences here this season and might even return in another month or so....recommend -if you're a first timer try to play with someone that has played the course. A ton of target golf involved on this Dye design.
Great Course, Unfortunate Pace
Wonderful course, had a lot of fun - unfortunately it looked as though there was league play ahead of us - and appeared the course was overbooked. Waiting to tee off every hole from 6 onward, with group(s) lining up behind us as well. Was just a very crowded day - Sunday afternoon golf for ya. Would definitely go back another time.
