Ruffled Feathers Golf Club
About
Ruffled Feathers Golf Club in Lemont is conveniently situated just a half hour outside downtown Chicago. Pete Dye and his son P.B. collaborated to design the course, making it the only Dye design in the Chicago area. A well thought-out strategy will be greatly rewarded on this challenging layout and bad shots made without any thought will be severely punished. This is definitely not a golf course where you can just grip it and rip it. The fairways are fairly straight and forgiving, but most of the approach shots play to tricky elevated greens. There are also strategically placed bunkers framing the greens and water hazards come into play on several holes as well. Ruffled Feathers Golf Club's par 3s have a reputation for being particularly challenging. But depending on how windy it is, the final hole might present the most formidable challenge.

Another nice course out south
Ruffled has a very good reputation and it lived up to it today. You'll need to play it a couple of times to know the nuances but it's a fair and fun track.
Needs basic improvements before I'll go back
Had perfect weather for an after work 18 and rates were attractive. Got checked in at the course to find it was a cart paths only day. We've had lots of rain so it was somewhat understandable. On the course however, the fairways and rough weren't wet, so in my opinion, it could have been 90 degree ruling, but we stayed on the paths. The sand traps were partially filled with water. Not one of the not-too-friendly staff at the clubhouse mentioned a thing about that at check-in.
And, for what is supposed to be a higher end course, they have NO GPS on the carts, which wouldn't be an issue if they had BLUE, WHITE and RED stakes to mark yardages. THEY DO NOT. Apparently, this is too tacky for such a swanky course. So, on a cart path only day, we had to guess distances to the green and take a selection of clubs out to the fairway. Sometimes we brought the correct clubs. (Sometimes you could find a sprinkler head with a yardage, but most times you could not), so we ended up walking around looking for some indication of distances, then more often than not, just guessing. All the while the group behind is impatiently waiting.
Needless to say, this didn't make for good scoring or a good time. And, on a few of the holes, there are marshy areas between the tee and the fairways where they allow the cattails to grow above eye level. You literally cannot see where your tee shot lands on those holes, We had no idea where our shots landed or if we were in play or in a hazard until we drove down the cart path. By then, if we were OB, you're supposed to drive back to the tee box to re-tee but the group behind would already be waiting their turn, so we just dropped a ball and played on.
If they had GPS on the carts or installed yardage stakes, the pace would be bearable, but as it stands, it takes way too long to play here with people aimlessly searching for a distance marker on the course. Its frustrating to have to guess the distances. And not being able to see where your tee shot lands on some holes is just plain dumb. Won't be back until some changes are made.
Course was in absolutely terrible Condition
Cool course layout, but the fairways and greens were so chewed up and covered in goose stuff it was not worth the money. This conditions were incredibly poor.
good course, no crowd
Course is in good shape considering the crazy weather we have had. We were not rushed or held up. Challenging course with light winds, brutal with a breeze. Good value at $47
Ruffled Feathers
Course in good shape and the the greens were true and quick.
Poorly Maintained
Beautiful course, but it needs a lot of money invested into it to get it into proper playing condition. The greens are torn up.
HUGE DUMP, PETE DYE WOULD UPSET
Basically my home course back in the day. Ruffled Feathers quite possibly could have the best layout in all of Illinois. However, their course conditions are just completely and utterly pathetic. Last year (2016) in Spring I was so impressed, I thought here we go Ruffled, you listened and this place will be in the limelight again. Go ahead and charge 90 or so bucks, if the course is in impeccable shape golfers will come and pay. Well that's not the case. In mid May once again the course looked like GARBAGE and went back to a goat farm. So disappointed especially due to the proximity of my house. RUFFLED FEATHERS, PLEASE READ AND IMPROVE YOUR POOR CONDITIONS.
Fall
The course was in great shape for the fall. The pace of play was a little slow on the front nine but still finished just over four hours.
Ruffled Feathers
The last time I played this course was in 2013 and it was in terrible shape. I heard that they recently had invested in the maintenance of the course and brought it back to it's original condition. I'm glad I played. The course was in great shape. The weather was a little cool but nice. The layout did have a few holes where the trouble was hidden but I think that's just Pete Dye. It was a very good and challenging design. Very picturesque and very relaxing. It made for a fun round of golf.
Greens are awful
Have played here many times but was extremely disappointed in the overall course condition
Fairways were saturated because they over watered not from any rain
I played 3 days last week and played Monday this week on courses and fairways were perfect
Played at 10:44 , sunny and some wind and your drive plugged in the fairway
Could have lived with that but the greens were awful. They had just aerated the greens the week before and they were bumpy and as slow as any greens I have played on in a long time.
If you had a 4 foot putt it bounced all over the place.
I have played on several courses that aerated the greens since September and thaws were by far the worst
Ruined the day
I could understand if this was mid November but the weather has been great so there is no excuse for the course being saturated and the green condition
If you choose to be open how about maintaining the golf course
I would pass on this place for the rest of the year.
I am being kind because the rest of our group was ready to quoting after 4 holes and ask for our money back
Unbelievable value
It was amazing to play a Pete Dye course for only $40 . It's also hard to believe nobody was on the course on an 80° day in October. The course was in great shape. Everyone who works at the course was very friendly and accommodating. If I lived closer, I would play here all the time!
Ruffled Feathers 18
One of the nicest courses we've played all year! Very well maintained and challenging back 9 holes.
Love the course
It was very wet from the rains. We got around in 3:20
Greens torn up...5.5 hr round.
Let me preface by saying that I love this course. However, you can tell the club is ready to shut down for the season. Greens are torn up. Bathrooms at the halfway houses are "out of order." 5.5 hr round. Not cool. Got to play for $39...cool. Staff Was super nice as usual.
Ruffled feathers
Greens were beat up. Nobody fixes their ball marks. Fairways were in good shape. Bunkers were fair.
