Ruffled Feathers Golf Club
About
Ruffled Feathers Golf Club in Lemont is conveniently situated just a half hour outside downtown Chicago. Pete Dye and his son P.B. collaborated to design the course, making it the only Dye design in the Chicago area. A well thought-out strategy will be greatly rewarded on this challenging layout and bad shots made without any thought will be severely punished. This is definitely not a golf course where you can just grip it and rip it. The fairways are fairly straight and forgiving, but most of the approach shots play to tricky elevated greens. There are also strategically placed bunkers framing the greens and water hazards come into play on several holes as well. Ruffled Feathers Golf Club's par 3s have a reputation for being particularly challenging. But depending on how windy it is, the final hole might present the most formidable challenge.

A good Course, but in poor repair
Excellent layout. Fairways in reasonably good shape. Greens need more attention. The 18th green has a number of very bare spots that would certainly deflect a rolling ball. But the situation with the bunkers is the worst. Almost all of them have little to NO drainage. After a good downpour the previous night, they were mud pits rather than sand bunkers. We played behind an outing and the pace of play was SLLLOOOOWWWW. At one tome, there were nine (yes, nine!) players teeing off from the same tee and there was no course marshal anywhere in sight.
A very unique design.
We got a late start due to rain. We played the first 3 holes in a steady drizzle. It stopped raining, we finished the round under wet but otherwise pleasant conditions.
Great course
Played a round during midweek. Got a great deal on golf now. Played 18 as part of a foursome in under 4 hours. Great Pete Dye layout. Conditions of tees, fairways and rough were very good. Greens had a lot of ball marks but putted well. If you haven't played here you should check it out.
Pushy and tore up
This is a classic example of a beautiful course that is not maintained. Greens have holes all over them. Tee boxes are a disaster. Yardage markers cannot be trusted because when they break or are lost they replace them with any old marker they have lying around no matter what the yardage on it says. All of these things can be tolerated and/or expected at your everyday below average course. However, when you pay 70+ bucks to golf you should not be susceptible to these conditions.
Also, I don't need a five minute speech on their pace-of-play policy. Tell us to keep pace before the first tee and leave it at that. Going on and on about something that every golfer is aware of is unnecessary.
Finally, I should never have to be told to speed up my pace of play when I am on the 15th green and have waited on the group in front of me EVERY shot up to that point. You look very stupid when you tell a group walking off the 15th green to pick up the pace and they get to the 16th tee and have to wait. It is simply ignorant. When I complained to two different rangers they both mentioned the age of the ranger who told me to speed up. Age is no factor and should not be used as an excuse for ignorance about a situation.
I finally was able to get a $20 rain check from one guy in the clubhouse. That is not enough to ever consider coming back considering all the other options in the area that will take care of you and their course with much more respect.
Re-Ruffled
Comparing this year to last was night and day. Last year the traps were like clay and the greens were beat up. Other than a spot on the 18th green, the course was in very good shape. Staff was helpful and Friendly.
Super!
It is a shame that the clientele doesn't seem disposed to sand divots, rake bunkers, or fix pitch marks on the greens, because this is a first rate, top drawer facility, right down to the condiments available for the dogs at the turn. Multiple tee boxes allow you to select a comfortable distance to play and enjoy the courses design. This is a don't miss experience.
Great Course in Great shape
My first time playing here, course was in tournament shape! Absolutely awesome. Not a single brown or bare spot in any fairway. Greens rolled kinda quick but fair. Good looking course as well. 4 sets of tees (I played green, 6400 yards) holes 15 thru 17 can wreck your round if you're not careful (I wasn't) In summation, GO! PLAY THIS COURSE! You'll be glad you did.
A mess
The greens are beat up and they let fivesomes out on the course. Pace is over 5 hours.
Well maintained course
Excellent course and value through golf-now, I plan on returning soon.
Poor yardage markers
Great conditions and friendly staff. MAJOR drawback was lack of GPS and sprinkler head yard markers.
Too penal
Too hard for average golfers. I'm a 13 handicap...legiyimste 13 ...and there is just no room for error. None. Plus a lot of blind shots for first timers. The course needs GPS on carts to help play move better. Few markers and hard to find. A drinking fountain would also be nice. Pretty course -- but unplayable for a lot of golfers. Single digit handicappers might disagree. Average golfers should swallow their pride and play from gold tees. About 6000 yards.
Poor course management
Took an hour and ten minutes to play 7,8,&9... On a Thursday afternoon!!!
No Ranger on the course could be part of the issue... After third complaint some efforts were made, but no success... Two foursomes on the thirteenth tee, and three foursomes on the fairway! Not my idea of an enjoyable afternoon. Five hours and thirty five minutes for a round of golf is unacceptable! We won't be back this year, and I live on the course! Too many other better managed courses in the area!
Good value at this price
Made a tee time for Sunday AM. Got paired up with 3 others; quick players, we were 4th group out. Played in 3:50, so not exceptionally fast, but pretty fast. Pins were in pretty tough spots, certainly not "move them around fast" pin locations. Course was in great condition, greens good but a little soft. Otherwise, course was excellent and so was the value.
Challenging track with sub par conditions
Played this course in late afternoon. Greens were pretty beat up for this course and time of year, very disappointed. Have played this course numerous of times and this was by far the worst conditions of the greens I have seen. A ton of ball marks on greens and some greens look diseased. Bunkers were really good yet the fairways were pretty beat up as well. I would expect alot more manicure from this super in charge. Greens rolled good but have seen them roll faster a more true in past. Overall good experience. Played as single, starter let me tee off in front of 3 some only to tell me to hurry up and catch up with group ahead, before I hit my tee shot. Nothing like being rushed on the first tee.
5 Hour Round
The pro shop told us we should be able to play in 4:15 but the round took 5 hours. No rangers to help players along. When we mentioned the pace of play to the staff at the turn we were told it was a busy Sunday afternoon and they offered us a rain check. There is no reason for a round of golf to last 5 hours, none!
Great course
Great time for the money. Challenging and fun. The front and back are unique. Fun par 3s.
Almost died of thirst
This is a fantastic course, only one problem.
No water coolers anywhere on the course, no beverage cart on a 85 degree day.
Bring water, they do have coolers on the carts and will stock them with ice at the bag drop.
I will definitely play again.
Used to be so much better
Had an early tee time604 on sunday monrning. Got there early to hit a quick bucket, but the range had the sprinklers on, was disappointed about not begin able to warm up, and then when I asked for a refund on the bucket, it was more of a hassle then getting my money back. The course was super soggy, which was disappointing considering the dry weather we have had.
Challenging
Overall very nice course. Study before playing this course. Several blind tee shots would have been easier had we studied the layout a bit closer. Greens are true and rolled well. Found some bunkers to be under repair. Some nice risk reward opportunities and various tee lengths to choose from.
This course is challenging
Course is good, a couple of holes on the back not laid out well. Greens were in good condition but slow for a course of this caliber. Good value for what I paid.
