Ruffled Feathers Golf Club in Lemont is conveniently situated just a half hour outside downtown Chicago. Pete Dye and his son P.B. collaborated to design the course, making it the only Dye design in the Chicago area. A well thought-out strategy will be greatly rewarded on this challenging layout and bad shots made without any thought will be severely punished. This is definitely not a golf course where you can just grip it and rip it. The fairways are fairly straight and forgiving, but most of the approach shots play to tricky elevated greens. There are also strategically placed bunkers framing the greens and water hazards come into play on several holes as well. Ruffled Feathers Golf Club's par 3s have a reputation for being particularly challenging. But depending on how windy it is, the final hole might present the most formidable challenge.

Sunday pin placement

My only complaint was pin placement. 210 par three over a bunker with 10-15 paces on.

Spring golf

This was a Golfnow deal on a nice day in early march.

Conditions weren't the best, the driving range was closed, no tee markers were in place, lots of divots from earlier play and we had to stay on the cart paths. However it was a great track, the day was beautiful

and the fairways and greens were short enough to make lies playable and putts fair.

Great place

Golf was great. Pete dye is amazing any course he built is a challenge.
Golf now on the other hand needs to change if it's raining they won't give you your money back or a rain check unless the course closes. THATS WRONG!! If the weather is terrible and almost unbearable they need to credit you for later use, they still get there money.
The company is worth billions and the people using it aren't! Even if the course does close you have to prove it. Then you get 30 days to use the credit or they keep your money.
I won't be using them again!!!!

If you get a chance to play this course do so!!! Even thought the houses are ridiculous. This state complains all the time about being broke yet every house there is worth a million or more. Why does anybody need 20,000 square feet. They probably never even see half there rooms. I know I know they worked for it they earned it? Just saying some priorities are jacked.

Tough course...Beautiful scenery

This is a very challenging course. If you are a beginner, don't even think about playing here. This is a tight course with a lot of obstacles and is target golf at it's best. Very well maintained and fun to play. However, I believe the rates are a touch high. I will definitely play here again and I will reccomend it to friends.

No longer offering GPS

Ruffled Feathers is not so much a tough test because of length, rather there is plenty of sand, water and waste areas to navigate. Sixteen is a devilish short par 4 because it's very difficult to know where to aim or how far you need to hit to clear the reeds, so aim at the left bunker and choose the longest club you can hit straight.
NOTE: the course is no longer offering the on-cart GPS system so bring your hand-held or laser device.

Overbooked to the max!

The golf course ran a special rate, claiming it was being offered because of the resent aeration to the greens. In order to recoup some of their losses, they over booked the golf course. Me and my son played as a twosome, we played 12 holes in 4 and a half hours, waiting five to ten minutes on every shot. We finally conceded and quit after the twelfth hole. We spoke to the manager on the way out and his excuse was, they had no rangers available that day, and we played at a discounted rate. Everyone we ran into on the course was upset about the pace of play, poor management decision. We won't be playing here anymore.

Really Pete?

So first off, Sunday afternoon hot deal for $31, playing after a college match, getting to start on the back side, finished round in 3hrs 15 min. It was a pretty good day with pretty good course conditions with it being set for the match.

More than friendly staff. I still say anytime you have a hot deal from golf now you will get treated differently at the majority of the places out there. Wasn't true here. I was impressed with the customer service, everything from direction to the first tee (simple I know but I appreciate the little things), I was also told my twosome could join the scheduled twosome or play by ourselves (never happens), we were given a pin placement sheet since they were at tournament positions, and they allowed us to start off the back because there was a cluster going off of #1. I was even given excellent dinner suggestions after we finished.

The course itself was in pretty good condition. The greens were a little beat up, clearly have an issue with birds feeding on a couple greens, but overall they rolled well. I believe the bunkers have more sand in them than sand on North Ave and Montrose beaches combined. They are exceptionally, um, fluffy. Design, was, nice? 6898 yards the shortest way you can possibly play it. Kept the driver in the bag more than a handful of times because one, I didn't have a landing and two, I could hit a hybrid and a wedge in. With the exception of a couple holes it felt more like a 6200 yard course. Par 5 #6 I went driver, 9iron in and thats in cool conditions where the ball wasn't flying at all.

Overall I really enjoyed this course. At full price I wouldn't be impressed but I wouldn't be that disappointed either.

A good Course, but in poor repair

Excellent layout. Fairways in reasonably good shape. Greens need more attention. The 18th green has a number of very bare spots that would certainly deflect a rolling ball. But the situation with the bunkers is the worst. Almost all of them have little to NO drainage. After a good downpour the previous night, they were mud pits rather than sand bunkers. We played behind an outing and the pace of play was SLLLOOOOWWWW. At one tome, there were nine (yes, nine!) players teeing off from the same tee and there was no course marshal anywhere in sight.

A very unique design.

We got a late start due to rain. We played the first 3 holes in a steady drizzle. It stopped raining, we finished the round under wet but otherwise pleasant conditions.

Great course

Played a round during midweek. Got a great deal on golf now. Played 18 as part of a foursome in under 4 hours. Great Pete Dye layout. Conditions of tees, fairways and rough were very good. Greens had a lot of ball marks but putted well. If you haven't played here you should check it out.

Pushy and tore up

This is a classic example of a beautiful course that is not maintained. Greens have holes all over them. Tee boxes are a disaster. Yardage markers cannot be trusted because when they break or are lost they replace them with any old marker they have lying around no matter what the yardage on it says. All of these things can be tolerated and/or expected at your everyday below average course. However, when you pay 70+ bucks to golf you should not be susceptible to these conditions.
Also, I don't need a five minute speech on their pace-of-play policy. Tell us to keep pace before the first tee and leave it at that. Going on and on about something that every golfer is aware of is unnecessary.
Finally, I should never have to be told to speed up my pace of play when I am on the 15th green and have waited on the group in front of me EVERY shot up to that point. You look very stupid when you tell a group walking off the 15th green to pick up the pace and they get to the 16th tee and have to wait. It is simply ignorant. When I complained to two different rangers they both mentioned the age of the ranger who told me to speed up. Age is no factor and should not be used as an excuse for ignorance about a situation.
I finally was able to get a $20 rain check from one guy in the clubhouse. That is not enough to ever consider coming back considering all the other options in the area that will take care of you and their course with much more respect.

Re-Ruffled

Comparing this year to last was night and day. Last year the traps were like clay and the greens were beat up. Other than a spot on the 18th green, the course was in very good shape. Staff was helpful and Friendly.

Super!

It is a shame that the clientele doesn't seem disposed to sand divots, rake bunkers, or fix pitch marks on the greens, because this is a first rate, top drawer facility, right down to the condiments available for the dogs at the turn. Multiple tee boxes allow you to select a comfortable distance to play and enjoy the courses design. This is a don't miss experience.

Great Course in Great shape

My first time playing here, course was in tournament shape! Absolutely awesome. Not a single brown or bare spot in any fairway. Greens rolled kinda quick but fair. Good looking course as well. 4 sets of tees (I played green, 6400 yards) holes 15 thru 17 can wreck your round if you're not careful (I wasn't) In summation, GO! PLAY THIS COURSE! You'll be glad you did.
