Ruffled Feathers Golf Club
About
Ruffled Feathers Golf Club in Lemont is conveniently situated just a half hour outside downtown Chicago. Pete Dye and his son P.B. collaborated to design the course, making it the only Dye design in the Chicago area. A well thought-out strategy will be greatly rewarded on this challenging layout and bad shots made without any thought will be severely punished. This is definitely not a golf course where you can just grip it and rip it. The fairways are fairly straight and forgiving, but most of the approach shots play to tricky elevated greens. There are also strategically placed bunkers framing the greens and water hazards come into play on several holes as well. Ruffled Feathers Golf Club's par 3s have a reputation for being particularly challenging. But depending on how windy it is, the final hole might present the most formidable challenge.

Ruffled Feathers
Course is a beautiful but tough layout. A number of blind shots, forced carries, etc. I've played here before but it had been a few years. A course/hole layout diagram on the scorecard would have been nice. There is no GPS either on the cart which seems odd for a higher end course. Most of the staff was very friendly except for a ranger who told us to hurry up on only the 3rd hole. What he apparently didn't see was the large gap in front of the threesome ahead of us. Once we caught them by the 5th hole we spent time waiting at nearly every tee after that. The round took 4:50 which isn't too bad on the weekend on a tough course.
Great course!!
First time playing this course and it was awesome. We are differently coming back soon. The layout was really challenging.
Great course for $40.00
All in all this is a good course for 40.00, BUT, if I paid full boat to play here I would have been extremely disappointed. The greens were sub par, the yardage markers often times contradict each other, the score card offers no hole layout nor do the tee markers. So, if you did not purchase the yardage book you are basically playing blind. The starter was very friendly and professional and the refreshment cart lady was very pleasant too.
Beautiful course
Beautiful course that was in great shape. Lot's of water and some narrow fairways. One of the finer courses in the area. Great value when you can catch a hot deal.
Exciting Layout
This is a professional caliber golf course. Holes are fun but challenging on every shot. Highly recommend for any level golfer. Closing holes are memorable. Bring extra balls !
GPS would help
How does a course that charges upwards of $85 to play NOT have GPS on the carts. This would speed up play and also help all golfers realize the full layout of the hole and distances.
Outstanding value
First time playing here. I've played a number of Pete Dye courses and would say that this one has more PB than Pete in the design, it is very nice and with the exception of a couple of holes, not overly tricky or unfair. The condition of the course was very good, including the bunkers. I played the day after heavy rains and I did not see any standing water in any bunkers, or anywhere on the course for that matter. I highly recommend it if you live in the area.
Excellent ciurse
Would live to play again!
Nice day
The course was in good condition and pace of play for an early afternoon tee time was very good. Finished in under 4 hours for a 1:51 tee time.
Sunday pin placement
My only complaint was pin placement. 210 par three over a bunker with 10-15 paces on.
GOLF
Great Course for the money.
Spring golf
This was a Golfnow deal on a nice day in early march.
Conditions weren't the best, the driving range was closed, no tee markers were in place, lots of divots from earlier play and we had to stay on the cart paths. However it was a great track, the day was beautiful
and the fairways and greens were short enough to make lies playable and putts fair.
A must play
Fantastic layout, never a dull moment. Enjoyed the golf course despite frigid winter weather. If you are an avid golfer, this is highly recommended.
Great place
Golf was great. Pete dye is amazing any course he built is a challenge.
Golf now on the other hand needs to change if it's raining they won't give you your money back or a rain check unless the course closes. THATS WRONG!! If the weather is terrible and almost unbearable they need to credit you for later use, they still get there money.
The company is worth billions and the people using it aren't! Even if the course does close you have to prove it. Then you get 30 days to use the credit or they keep your money.
I won't be using them again!!!!
If you get a chance to play this course do so!!! Even thought the houses are ridiculous. This state complains all the time about being broke yet every house there is worth a million or more. Why does anybody need 20,000 square feet. They probably never even see half there rooms. I know I know they worked for it they earned it? Just saying some priorities are jacked.
Tough course...Beautiful scenery
This is a very challenging course. If you are a beginner, don't even think about playing here. This is a tight course with a lot of obstacles and is target golf at it's best. Very well maintained and fun to play. However, I believe the rates are a touch high. I will definitely play here again and I will reccomend it to friends.
No longer offering GPS
Ruffled Feathers is not so much a tough test because of length, rather there is plenty of sand, water and waste areas to navigate. Sixteen is a devilish short par 4 because it's very difficult to know where to aim or how far you need to hit to clear the reeds, so aim at the left bunker and choose the longest club you can hit straight.
NOTE: the course is no longer offering the on-cart GPS system so bring your hand-held or laser device.
Overbooked to the max!
The golf course ran a special rate, claiming it was being offered because of the resent aeration to the greens. In order to recoup some of their losses, they over booked the golf course. Me and my son played as a twosome, we played 12 holes in 4 and a half hours, waiting five to ten minutes on every shot. We finally conceded and quit after the twelfth hole. We spoke to the manager on the way out and his excuse was, they had no rangers available that day, and we played at a discounted rate. Everyone we ran into on the course was upset about the pace of play, poor management decision. We won't be playing here anymore.
Really Pete?
So first off, Sunday afternoon hot deal for $31, playing after a college match, getting to start on the back side, finished round in 3hrs 15 min. It was a pretty good day with pretty good course conditions with it being set for the match.
More than friendly staff. I still say anytime you have a hot deal from golf now you will get treated differently at the majority of the places out there. Wasn't true here. I was impressed with the customer service, everything from direction to the first tee (simple I know but I appreciate the little things), I was also told my twosome could join the scheduled twosome or play by ourselves (never happens), we were given a pin placement sheet since they were at tournament positions, and they allowed us to start off the back because there was a cluster going off of #1. I was even given excellent dinner suggestions after we finished.
The course itself was in pretty good condition. The greens were a little beat up, clearly have an issue with birds feeding on a couple greens, but overall they rolled well. I believe the bunkers have more sand in them than sand on North Ave and Montrose beaches combined. They are exceptionally, um, fluffy. Design, was, nice? 6898 yards the shortest way you can possibly play it. Kept the driver in the bag more than a handful of times because one, I didn't have a landing and two, I could hit a hybrid and a wedge in. With the exception of a couple holes it felt more like a 6200 yard course. Par 5 #6 I went driver, 9iron in and thats in cool conditions where the ball wasn't flying at all.
Overall I really enjoyed this course. At full price I wouldn't be impressed but I wouldn't be that disappointed either.
All day golf
$90.00 for round of golf witch Took us 6 (six hours) to complete . Two foursomes were putting on the green all at the same time ,they do not even have a Ranger .Used to be one of my favorite course in Chicago but I'm not going there anymore .
