Ruffled Feathers Golf Club
About
Ruffled Feathers Golf Club in Lemont is conveniently situated just a half hour outside downtown Chicago. Pete Dye and his son P.B. collaborated to design the course, making it the only Dye design in the Chicago area. A well thought-out strategy will be greatly rewarded on this challenging layout and bad shots made without any thought will be severely punished. This is definitely not a golf course where you can just grip it and rip it. The fairways are fairly straight and forgiving, but most of the approach shots play to tricky elevated greens. There are also strategically placed bunkers framing the greens and water hazards come into play on several holes as well. Ruffled Feathers Golf Club's par 3s have a reputation for being particularly challenging. But depending on how windy it is, the final hole might present the most formidable challenge.

Nice course with perfect weather to play
It was a gorgeous weather to play wonderful course... The course was somewhat challenging in water hazards but it took the time of playing hardly find out the ball because of lots of fallen leaves. Anyhow, it was nice...
Nice Track.
A lot of rain has fallen this past week, but the fairways were playable about 85% of the time.
Played solo working my way thru only two groups. Played in 2:45! A miss hit on 18 cost me my sub 80 round.
One of my favorite places to drive (50 min) to. And they always have some discounts going on.
Slope of 132 from middle tees. So you need course management to score.
Challenging & Beautiful
Ruffled Feathers is one tough golf course with several holes that have blind shots as well as undulating fairways &:fast greens. Be prepared to think your way through a round of golf or you could be in a lot of trouble. However the course is fair to the forward tee boxes & tough on some of the other tee boxes forcing players into hitting over long stretches of marsh areas. Conditions of the course we're excellent but some of the bunkers had small pebbles in them instead of sand.
Brilliant experience
We enjoy every moment of being out on the course. Surely a course where every shot counts and you need to carefully consider your options otherwise you will pay for poor shot selection
Great Day
Course was in great shape for this time of the year. No real problems as pace of play was excellent. Will be back and recommend playing Ruffle Feathers if you haven't
great layout
Considering the greens were aerated, the course was in good shape. Sand traps were all flooded with water. which we didn't understand because there was no rain lately. Needed to have a ranger out there because the group in front of us were playing as a five some group. one was walking. They backed up play badly on back nine and you could tell they didn't care. Had a sandwich and a couple of brews in clubhouse. Food was very good and priced nicely. I have played this several times and would for the right price again.
Where's the sand?!
For a $95 a round course you would expect sand in the bunkers. I found very little sand in the bunkers and 2 bunkers without sand at all. It's kinda hard to hit out of the traps when you hit dirt along with sand.
Great course, but played blind
The course was very nice, but my group had a very difficult time playing. The carts had GPS in them, but the starter that they haven't been working for the last two weeks or so. That's fine, it's just a luxury feature. However, the course did not have yardage marker poles (200, 150, 100, 50) along the fairway. This left my group scrambling around the fairway looking for a little sprinkler cap with a yardage marked on it, often not finding one close enough to estimate our distance to the pin. This made it extremely difficult to play well, and often left us frustrated as we put the ball shorter over the green. I could invest in a gps watch, etc, but I should not have to in order to play golf. This was the only disappointing aspect of the day. I really enjoyed the course otherwise and had this feature been remedied when their cart GPS stopped working, I would have not had a sour taste in my mouth when I think of paying to play here again.
It also didn't help that the two-some in front of us (our four-some) each had their own cart and we were left waiting on them at every single hole, while they had nobody in front of them.
rain but fun
we had a lot of rain on the round but I love this course. we started at 330pm and were flying around the course- no clue why no one was out there. would have been done in 3 1/4 hours it was so open. Love this course- some really short holes and they are the most challenging. great mixups from hole to hole, wind that you don't anticipate- great course- one of my favorites.
Ruffled Feathers - 5 stars
Private Country Club atmosphere but Public access. Beautiful views. Will use most clubs in your bag.
Very Nice
Challenging, nice layout, good condition. Staffing here always seems to be just a skeleton crew,, seem preoccupied with on site wedding or parties.. Sand in the traps is gravel and doesn't drain very well- otherwise I enjoy this course, recommended
Heyday is Gone
What years ago was a good course has fallen on tough times. GPS had been shut off on carts do to course not electing to renew contract. No starter on first tee so we had a free for all with other groups trying to skip ahead of us. No mention that we would be playing behind an outing. Had tee time at 1:30pm and did not finish do to darkness - this has never happended before at all the courses I have played. To top everything off we were informed that carts had to remain on the cart paths. I have forgotten how bad this course drains - just about every trap had water in it although it had not rained in 24 hours. Its a shame how far this course has gone downhill.
nothing special
Basically like broken arrow.
4 hours thru 12, took off after that.
Would never pay full rate.
GPS didnt work, so no chance on blind shots.
Only plus greens were in good shape and very tricky.
Serious challenge
The course is phenomenal. Challenging to any golfer.
Due to the recent downpours, it was cart path only.
First double eagle ever
The course was in good shape especially the greens. I have to add that on the par 5 15th I holed my second shot (153 yard 8 iron) for a double eagle so that made my round and year unforgettable
Very good condition, too tricked out
Good value at the discounted Golf Now price we paid. Would not pay full price. Range was mats only for now reason and the range balls were garbage.
Course is in nice shape but pins on GPS were all wrong which cost me several strokes. Had to rely on my laser but that wasn't helpful for the many blind shots. Also several holes just too tricked out often forcing a short layup shot in order to have a clear shot of the green. Typical Pete Dye.
Super slow
We have played this course many times, but play has never been this SLOW. We had to quit after 16 which was the 4 1/2 + hour mark. Started as a two-some, got paired up with a third, then a single caught us and he (not us) decided to make it a foursome. We still waited on every hole, beginning with #5, for the twosome ahead of us. There were multiple twosomes ahead of them, but play was at a standstill. Will think twice about played Ruffled Feathers considering the miserable pace - no way should this be a 5 hour + per round course. Marshals would be a big help, but seems like RF does not want to spend the money. Poor decision.
5 1/2 hour round - GM won't pay for marshal to speed up play
General Manager believes that marshals do not serve any value on the course. Staff in pro shop are friendly and said that they are pushing for a marshal on the course to help speed up play, but GM does not find it necessary. BTW the GM looks like he's never golfed a round in his life. He was clearly more interested in the catering and baby shower happening in the clubhouse than he was with the course.
Pace too slow
Loved the course. However 5 plus hours to play and not a Marshall on the course to help speed up play.
