Ruffled Feathers Golf Club
About
Ruffled Feathers Golf Club in Lemont is conveniently situated just a half hour outside downtown Chicago. Pete Dye and his son P.B. collaborated to design the course, making it the only Dye design in the Chicago area. A well thought-out strategy will be greatly rewarded on this challenging layout and bad shots made without any thought will be severely punished. This is definitely not a golf course where you can just grip it and rip it. The fairways are fairly straight and forgiving, but most of the approach shots play to tricky elevated greens. There are also strategically placed bunkers framing the greens and water hazards come into play on several holes as well. Ruffled Feathers Golf Club's par 3s have a reputation for being particularly challenging. But depending on how windy it is, the final hole might present the most formidable challenge.

Would Play Again
I was really excited to play this Pete Dye design, though it seems that they might not have the budget to keep up the conditions at the level to really see this course shine. Still, it's a course worth playing and I intend to do it again. The only problem was there wasn't a starter (it was a Friday afternoon)-- I was a single and supposed to be paired with another single but he took off 20mins early and caused some delays for the rest of us. Otherwise the staff was very friendly and competent.
Nice Track!
Lucked out for a round at $36.00. Great Value and course is in good conditions beside evident heavy rains as of recent. Will play again soon.
Ruffled Feathers
Course was in great shape. A lot of rain in past few days limited us to cart path only, but overall great experience.
Great track
Never played because it was too expensive. Great place to play!
SPRING GOLF AT A GREAT PACE
Course was in good shape and the pace of play was great.
Challenges seen and unseen
Good challenges on every hole; some very good shots end up in a hazard you cannot see. Higher rating if carts had GPS to see what you're up against to plan your approach.
Green consistency good; would be better if all players repaired their ball marks.
Rangers need to help keep pace as we waited for groups ahead on all but 4-5 holes.
As a single player, have enjoyed my GolfNow pairings with really nice people.
I'll be back.
A Beautiful and Difficult Course
First time playing here and overall i liked this course. The fairways, greens, and tee boxes were maintained very nicely. Tight Fairways make for a difficult scoring round.
This course will make u use every club in the bag to navigate efficiently. Lots of water in play and holes 16/17/18 might b the three toughest holes coming in in Chicago area.
I wish the course could offer at least a yardage book for sale in pro shop because there is no GPS or even 150 stakes in fairways.
April 1 @ Ruffled
Considering it was April 1 and nothing has had a chance to grow yet, the course was in great shape.
The outstanding undulations and hazards
Although I have only been golfing for 2 years I have had the pleasure of playing in excess of 40 courses. Although it is now nearing winter I managed to pick up my final round at probably the best course I've played for a mere $28. The fall had taken its normal toll upon the greens and fairways yet this course was outstanding to play. The fairways were very varied, there was water in almost every hole and I can safely say there was more bunkers than I've ever seen on 18 holes. During the spring and summer months I am sure this course will excel and would be worth the full green fees of $96. Overall I would give the course a solid 9 out of 10. Only let down was the lack of food on offer on the turn.
Nice course with perfect weather to play
It was a gorgeous weather to play wonderful course... The course was somewhat challenging in water hazards but it took the time of playing hardly find out the ball because of lots of fallen leaves. Anyhow, it was nice...
Nice Track.
A lot of rain has fallen this past week, but the fairways were playable about 85% of the time.
Played solo working my way thru only two groups. Played in 2:45! A miss hit on 18 cost me my sub 80 round.
One of my favorite places to drive (50 min) to. And they always have some discounts going on.
Slope of 132 from middle tees. So you need course management to score.
Challenging & Beautiful
Ruffled Feathers is one tough golf course with several holes that have blind shots as well as undulating fairways &:fast greens. Be prepared to think your way through a round of golf or you could be in a lot of trouble. However the course is fair to the forward tee boxes & tough on some of the other tee boxes forcing players into hitting over long stretches of marsh areas. Conditions of the course we're excellent but some of the bunkers had small pebbles in them instead of sand.
Brilliant experience
We enjoy every moment of being out on the course. Surely a course where every shot counts and you need to carefully consider your options otherwise you will pay for poor shot selection
Great Day
Course was in great shape for this time of the year. No real problems as pace of play was excellent. Will be back and recommend playing Ruffle Feathers if you haven't
great layout
Considering the greens were aerated, the course was in good shape. Sand traps were all flooded with water. which we didn't understand because there was no rain lately. Needed to have a ranger out there because the group in front of us were playing as a five some group. one was walking. They backed up play badly on back nine and you could tell they didn't care. Had a sandwich and a couple of brews in clubhouse. Food was very good and priced nicely. I have played this several times and would for the right price again.
Where's the sand?!
For a $95 a round course you would expect sand in the bunkers. I found very little sand in the bunkers and 2 bunkers without sand at all. It's kinda hard to hit out of the traps when you hit dirt along with sand.
Great course, but played blind
The course was very nice, but my group had a very difficult time playing. The carts had GPS in them, but the starter that they haven't been working for the last two weeks or so. That's fine, it's just a luxury feature. However, the course did not have yardage marker poles (200, 150, 100, 50) along the fairway. This left my group scrambling around the fairway looking for a little sprinkler cap with a yardage marked on it, often not finding one close enough to estimate our distance to the pin. This made it extremely difficult to play well, and often left us frustrated as we put the ball shorter over the green. I could invest in a gps watch, etc, but I should not have to in order to play golf. This was the only disappointing aspect of the day. I really enjoyed the course otherwise and had this feature been remedied when their cart GPS stopped working, I would have not had a sour taste in my mouth when I think of paying to play here again.
It also didn't help that the two-some in front of us (our four-some) each had their own cart and we were left waiting on them at every single hole, while they had nobody in front of them.
rain but fun
we had a lot of rain on the round but I love this course. we started at 330pm and were flying around the course- no clue why no one was out there. would have been done in 3 1/4 hours it was so open. Love this course- some really short holes and they are the most challenging. great mixups from hole to hole, wind that you don't anticipate- great course- one of my favorites.
