Amazing Greens

I have never seen greens that are in such perfect conditions this early in the golf season. The newly designed greens are much tougher than they used to be but conditions are spectacular.

Nice layout

A fun and challenging course. Very well conditioned considering how early it is in the season. Slow start due to frost on the grains but otherwise pace of play was excellent. Enjoyed it very much

Great Course, Rock Hard Greens

Mt. Prospect GC is a fun course. It is a very interesting and challenging layout, forcing you to use every club in the bag. The only complaint about the course itself is that the greens are rock hard and it's tough to hold approach shots, as they usually careen off of the undulations on the greens.

Overall it was a beautiful day on a fun golf course. Can't complain.

Long, tricky

Got caught behind a foursome giving what seemed to be an on course lesson??? Greens were filled with false fronts and tricky reads. Overall worth the price, only bugged by the fact it was one of the longest rounds due to a foursome not allowing us to play through and giving a lesson

Tremendous Renovation

Play the course many times before the renovation and the changes that were with the renovation are incredible. The practice areas were vastly improved with a large practice putting green with many slopes and undulations, a short game area that you can pitch and hit bunker shots and a 20 station bent grass tee range. The only one I know of in the area.

The course itself is completely changed. Bunkers were placed in strategic places all around the course. Mounding was placed between fairways of the holes give separation to this tight course and really gives the course some character. The biggest change, however, is the greens. The old greens were very small and circular with hardly any break at all. The new greens are 2 to 3 times the size with many slopes and undulations in them, which makes them challenging yet fun to play. I was told all 18 greens are replicas of famous green around the world. I was even impressed with the new GPS equipped on each cart. I was able to touch anywhere on the screen and it gave me the exact yardage to that point and then the yardage from that point to the hole. Very helpful in laying up or punching out from under a tree.

Overall, I was extremely satisfied with the renovation and I like the new challenges the course presents. HUGE upgrade from the old course. I loved everything from the practice areas, to the carts and GPS, the changing elevation of the landscape and the greens. I will definitely be playing this course more often. Job well done Mt. Prospect!

Great Changes

I played the course two years ago before the renovation. It was good before, but now with the all new cart paths, greens, fairways, and tee boxes its a "Must Play Destination". The new holes are very exciting as well are all the greens. The club house has good food at a very reasonable price and a great outside raised covered porch to have a drink and view the course. That's one of my favorite things. As a final note, the staff and cart girls are friendly and the the extra mile for you.

Augusta Greens

From tee to green this course is modestly challenging...but the greens are fantastic. If you want greens that are the closest to Augusta...then these are the ones. Our league played here several years prior to the course renovation and just started up last week after playing at another course for two years. We are glad to be back. Their practice facilities are incredible. Altogether the renovations improved an already good course.

Great new design

Having played the course before the renovation and after, I look forward to playing this year. They have done a great job on the fairways and bunkers. The greens will be challenging but putt well. Positioning will be imperative and good shots will be rewarded and bad approaches will cost you.

They have a great practice area for chipping, putting and sand play.

Visually stunning, great course all-around.

Absolutely visually stunning golf course. Everything looks to be growing in nicely after the renovation and the maintenance crew is doing a great job.

Tee-to-green you'll be impressed with the views. Light undulation in the fairways and a few bunkers keep the eyes busy. The greens look intimidating, but with decent speed control and a little bit of creativity when reading putts you won't find these greens to be too much of a problem.

The staff are outstanding; friendly and always willing to go that extra mile.

Fun course

The defining feature of this course are the greens. It reminds me of watching the Masters. The greens are very challenging and fun. If your looking for flat greens this is not for you. You have to place your approach shots and walk around your putts and view all angles. The course is in very good shape and I think if your looking for a good public course you won't be disappointed.

Love the changes the course made

I've played this course for a few years and am very impressed with the changes that were made in the recent redesign. The practice area has been expanded with a huge practice putting green and an additional area to work on short game shots. The course itself has several redesigned holes. All the greens have been redone and present the golfer with and experience you would only find on a private expensive course. If you're up for a great golf challenge, play here.

Played this course before the restoration in a league. enjoyed it then, because I'm not a long hitter but I can putt. After the restoration, I still can't hit it long, but my putting will come into play. If I'm a 0-4 handicap player and can't play this municipal course, I'm figuring my handicap wrong. The greens are challenging, but I can sometimes reach them in regulation, then it is up to me to hone my putting skills. You use your putter every hole, and the course has a very nice practice green, that you can drop by, and practice on and it doesn't cost you a penny. The practice areas are very friendly to bringing the kids out to practice their game. I'm glad our league is back at Mount Prospect. I can compete with the big hitters.

Thumbs up to the course renovations!

I played the MPGC regularly once it reopened last August. During the winter was able to golf in both the South and West but have to say it was good to get back to MPGC earlier this week and interesting green complexes.

With the renovations the course was enhanced with an update practice area - large practice putting green that duplicates slopes and breaks you will find during your round, a large driving range and a separate practice green with traps for short game work. A really wonderful addition.

To make room for the practice area, there were new holes built, #1, #10 - 13 and #18. The new holes are a fresh addition to those of us that play MPGC regularly and are both fun and challenging. Watching the construction, I wasn't sure how I was going to be able to play the new #11, but have found it to be a rewarding "easy bogey but hard par" type of hole.

All the other holes received new tee boxes and green complexes. However, it is the green complexes that are the unappreciated treasure of MPGC. The architect, Dave Esler, pays homage through the greens to an early 20th century golf course designer, Seth Raynor. While I have heard my share of fellow golfers bemoan the greens, they are classic golf hole designs. The course boasts Redan, Biarritz, Punchbowl and Double Plateau style of putting surfaces. The fact is that to play true Seth Raynor designed greens like these you need to wrangle an invitation to exclusive private clubs like Chicago Golf Club or Shoreacres. The game is more fun and rewarding when one embraces these green complexes and their subtleties.

Those of us living in Mt Prospect are fortunate to have such a gem of a course in our backyards!

Great course conditions. Excellent layout. Challenging greens.

Great course. The reconstruction of the course has created a beautiful accessible park district course that could be ranked with some local private clubs. The course has a wonderful layout with manicured fairways and traps. The greens are challenging but if you are looking for flat and straight then there are plenty of places available, but you'll be sacrificing overall course conditions and amenities.

Impossible greens

This is a municiple course that is very close to my house. I was happy with the course conditions until I got to the first green. It appears that they hired someone who designs miniature golf holes. I was looking for the windmill or clown face to putt through! Over half of the greens have slopes and undulations that are impossible to putt. 3 putting is the norm on these and that slows up play considerably. I can't believe that this was done to this course. I certainly will not play there again. The rest of the course is beautiful, but the job they did on the greens is horrible!

Circus style greens undo positive course changes

I was looking forward to playing My. Prospect golf course after its redesign. After playing the course, I have mixed feelings and feel bad for the long time players that got short changed by the redesign.

The renovation has actually created some nice changes to the routing of the course. The first hole is dramatically different as are holes 10 through 13 & 18. With the exception of an Ipoorly placed and non discript finishing hole, the rest of the hole redesigns have been very positive. There are several trap and undulations enhancements that add to both both visual enjoyment and to a more challenging game.

Unfortunately, in my opinion, all of the positive changes made to the course are offset by a ridiculous approach to the green structures. I am a low single digit handicapped and enjoy a good challenge. However, these greens make one feel like they are putting at a circus like miniature golf course. Every green has been divided into noticeable sections or quadrants. The quadrants are divided by severe slopes and undulations making it next to impossible to sink a put if you are not on the proper quadrant. I believe the architect and go!f committee that approved the redesign lost sight of the fact that this is a muni course. The average player is out there to have a good time and not to be frustrated by a crazy time on the greens. At a time when the game needs to encourage more people to participate in the game, this course goes in the opposite direction.

On top of that, MP has never been known for its good speed of play. This change to the greens will only slow down an already lengthy round. We were about the sixth group off for the day and managed to play in 4 1/2 hours. Not good for that ear!y of a time on a 6400 yard course. However when we rounded 16, we noticed 4(yes I said 4) foursomes on the second tee waiting to tee off. Brutal.

Overall I was disappointed by the renovation. The really nice changes to the holes and routing, the new and improved range and the correction to drainage issues have been positive indeed. However, the greens have created a course that just simply does not match its clientele. Will p!ay continue to be strong at MP? Absolutely. The long timers will continue to get their resident discount and play on the cheap. They will just be playing course that really could have been better AND more enjoyable to play.

Renovation Complete Grade C- Missed Opportunity

After year long renovation including designing three new holes, adding large practice area this one time gem of a muni is now a mixed bag..wonderful new hole and layout design coupled with the worst putting complexes I have ever seen. Dubs Dread was bad when they redid the greens and even the pros hated it this is similar.. first the layout was nice before but much better now.. Grade A-, heavy tree lined course site lines are terrific but follow the GPS to help navigate the fairfaiy bunkers...They need some additional closely mown chipping areas in lieu of the amount of green side bunkers. Average golfer will not score well here. The greens now are elevated with flat bunkers alongside. With sharp edges on the greens this makes it harder to play the green side bunkers. As per the design these are the worst green design I have ever seen after $8m cost the sharp edges, multiple levels, especially when you consider the type of shots needed to hit into the green example #2. 445 yd par 4 and there I s at least 7 slopes and levels. 1,2,5,7,8,9,10,16,17,18 are awful poor design dumb amateur shaper must have been on the job. this happens 12 more times.. They can't even mow the sharp edges well. Flex mowers are required and now they need more help mowing in the morning because the greens. are larger with more levels. Good players will score here, the average player will shoot 3-6 shots higher. In Addition this makes slow play a problem. I play all over these greens are a travesty to the game.. Instead of making it fun for the new, older or Average player they ruined it...sorry can't recommend try Indian Lakes, Naperbrook, Springbrook, Old Orchard, Heritage Bluffs, Ruffled Feathers, Buffalo Grove, Chevy Chase, Cantigy,

Be Patient This Year

It's cart path only until next year to give the new fairways a chance to take hold and fill in. Actually I was amazed at how lush 90% of the fairways and greens were for being less than a year old. There's still a few bare areas which is to be expected but you can tell it's being addressed.

The layout has been toughened up by totally changing the layout of the 1st hole and the first 5 holes on the back 9 along with 17 and 18.

The pace of play here is usually pretty slow before noon. MP is a bedroom community and this course has a tremendously faithful retiree following. So it's usually quite full at the early tee times.

My only complaint and the reason I won't give it 5 Stars is this. It's a short course squeezed into a residential neighborhood. 6305 from the back tees. 5955 from the next set of tees. Unfortunately from this 2nd set of tees there are 3 par 4's at 420 - 430 yards. That's unreachable in two for most of the players that play from this distance. The reason they play from 6000 and under is usually they're short off the tee. Someone please tell me what PGA course is set up where some of the shorter pros can't reach every par 4 in two. Answer: There are none. So why slow your course down by forcing players to play three par 4's like they're par 5's? I guess they could play down to the next tees but they're considerably shorter, 5235. Why not just make them par 5's?

The greens are very quick, smooth and well maintained as is the entire course in general. The practice facility is first rate as is the bar and restaurant which has a great big veranda overlooking the practice greens.

Overall a fun and challenging course to play. I'll be keeping it in my yearly rotation of courses I play.
