Course is challenging
Like playing at Stoney Creek only bad thing was many blotches on the greensOr
Great course
Great course and great staff. Already going back 4 days later after playing. Only reason for the 4 stars is that I had to avoid a pair of coyotes near hole 4.
Ready for spring!
I was pleasantly surprised by the nice layout of this golf course. While the the rough and fairways were still quite wet following some heavy rain during the past week and the ground thawing out after winter, the greens were in better shape than expected for the beginning of March. The bunkers around the course didn’t appear to have any issues with standing water, but none of the bunkers had been raked in quite some time and contained firmly packed sand.
Despite this course being quite short in length, I think it provides a great opportunity to leave the driver at home and work on mostly iron shots, a few fairway metals off the tees of the longer holes, and chipping/pitching if you’re unable to get onto the greens in regulation. Overall, I was pleased with the course and look forward to returning to firmer and drier conditions where I won’t lose any plugged balls in fairways or the rough immediately surrounding the fairways.
Great Course—limit those 4 putts!
Short course with great maintenance and super difficult greens.
I played with a course ranger so knew a lot of course tricks he shared but relatively easy layout: excellent condition and certainly the best municipal course in the area.
Oak Lawn Park district I believe.
Only. Par 65 and could be walked but not recommended.
I played a weekday morning: 3 hours 8 minutes; I shot a 74 with 40 putts—and I wasn’t that disappointed in the putting because the greens here are challenging and fun. That’s the most putts I have had in years—with a rare 4!!! Putt
Don't Underestimate!
A short course with devastating greens! I'll come back just to get another crack at the challenging pin placements and tricky undulations. A great course to work on your short game and putting. Lot of par 3's and the rest par 4's.
Lack of beverage cart
It was a warm day there were water coolers out however they did not have a beverage cart. The pace of play was all screwed up because people were bouncing around hole to hole instead of playing the course correctly.
Eight in a group
They let eight people play together very long round of golf was 10 people waiting at the turn to tee off so I played only 8 holes skipped the 1st hole because there were 8 people on the 1st hole as well will not go back anytime soon
You get what you pay for
I play Stoney Creek a couple times a year due to its price. You get what you pay for in terms of courses. It’s a pretty easy course. The greens aren’t in the best conditions. This last time I played however, the pace of play was pretty bad it might as well have been Memorial Day or the 4th of July it was so awful. Somehow the ranger put two groups of 5, then a group of 4 older gentlemen that slowed down the pace of play to the point where it ruined an otherwise beautiful day. I will still play this course in the future but if the pace of play was as bad as this last time out, I will spend my money elsewhere
The course has a great layout.
It was mother’s day so there was hardly anyone out there. No one in front of us and no one behind us. So if I hit a bad shot I just hit another one. All in all it was a great day.
Stoney Creek
It's a nice little south suburban course, that is not jammed, and overpriced. The course is pretty well-maintained, The people are nice and the price is right.
Worst service ever
We had 6am tee times. We got there with plenty of time. Doors locked, lights off, No one there. After a few minutes a couple of older gentlemen were pulling golf carts out. Does two gentlemen were very polite and courteous. We asked them if they knew where the rep to check in was. They had no clue. After 20 minute two (2) foursome took it open themselves to walk on to course and golf. I couldn't see myself doing that. Again we asked does older gentlemen if they heard anything. One fella said they had gotten in touch with someone. Finally, someone got there at 745 am. Obviously the line to tee off was ridiculous, that by the time We got to the 10th hole their was two (2) sets of foursomes and two (2) sets of twosomes waiting to tee off...
Unbelievable!!!! I spoke to several guys while we waited to tee off on 10th hole and it appears that this was the 3rd weekend in a row they do this. Stony must not care what customers feel or think.
A 3 hour golf round turned out to 530 hr round. SMH... unacceptable
