Stony Creek
Don’t be deceived by the yardage. Great greens, occasional sand traps,, but an interesting layout that will test your iron game .
Return visit
Weekend golf is usually painfully slow, but today’s visit was lucky timing as I began immediately after an outing which had just ended. I finished my round in under 2 hours behind another single who also zoomed through the course.
Positives:
- Short distance and extra par 3s give the shorter irons more action.
- Course fairways, greens, and tees were in acceptable condition.
Negatives:
- Fleet of golf carts are in need of being replaced.
- Only found two bunkers today, but both were crusty and in poor condition. Need more sand and some TLC.
- From a cosmetic standpoint things such as fence posts, signs, cart paths, and bridges could use some attention and updates.
Good Fairways and good looking greens
All in good condition golf course for a good price$
Fun course for the money
My wife and I played this course almost weekly last summer, and plan to play a lot this summer. We played for the first time this year on Sunday, and the course seemed to be in better condition than last year. There’s always water on the course, so that’s a plus. A downside is the slow pace of play. The course also seems to attract people who like to play their music loudly from their carts. Otherwise it’s a fun course, and have a great deal on a pitcher of beer after the round.
Can be great
Pace of play can be BRUTAL. Not always. But it has been several times. I like the place a lot. But on occasion you can’t find anyone accept the pro shop worker. Nobody else. Other times. Bar is staffed. Food is tasty and staff is very friendly. It depends on the day i guess. But for the price, complaints should be minimal
Par 65 or about
Fun course. Short course.
Challenging. I played in 35 mph winds today, other than that, it was good.
Course is challenging
Like playing at Stoney Creek only bad thing was many blotches on the greensOr
Great course
Great course and great staff. Already going back 4 days later after playing. Only reason for the 4 stars is that I had to avoid a pair of coyotes near hole 4.
Ready for spring!
I was pleasantly surprised by the nice layout of this golf course. While the the rough and fairways were still quite wet following some heavy rain during the past week and the ground thawing out after winter, the greens were in better shape than expected for the beginning of March. The bunkers around the course didn’t appear to have any issues with standing water, but none of the bunkers had been raked in quite some time and contained firmly packed sand.
Despite this course being quite short in length, I think it provides a great opportunity to leave the driver at home and work on mostly iron shots, a few fairway metals off the tees of the longer holes, and chipping/pitching if you’re unable to get onto the greens in regulation. Overall, I was pleased with the course and look forward to returning to firmer and drier conditions where I won’t lose any plugged balls in fairways or the rough immediately surrounding the fairways.
Great Course—limit those 4 putts!
Short course with great maintenance and super difficult greens.
I played with a course ranger so knew a lot of course tricks he shared but relatively easy layout: excellent condition and certainly the best municipal course in the area.
Oak Lawn Park district I believe.
Only. Par 65 and could be walked but not recommended.
I played a weekday morning: 3 hours 8 minutes; I shot a 74 with 40 putts—and I wasn’t that disappointed in the putting because the greens here are challenging and fun. That’s the most putts I have had in years—with a rare 4!!! Putt
Don't Underestimate!
A short course with devastating greens! I'll come back just to get another crack at the challenging pin placements and tricky undulations. A great course to work on your short game and putting. Lot of par 3's and the rest par 4's.
Lack of beverage cart
It was a warm day there were water coolers out however they did not have a beverage cart. The pace of play was all screwed up because people were bouncing around hole to hole instead of playing the course correctly.
Eight in a group
They let eight people play together very long round of golf was 10 people waiting at the turn to tee off so I played only 8 holes skipped the 1st hole because there were 8 people on the 1st hole as well will not go back anytime soon
