Several Temporary Holes
Before I booked my tee time, I read some reviews from July 2017 (right after heavy rain) saying that a few holes were totally under water. Since I was playing in September and it has been relatively dry, I called the course to find out it's condition. The guy I spoke with in the pro shop told me the course was back in the same shape that it was before the July storms. But when I arrived, 4 holes were temporary, shortened holes, with insufficient yardage markers. It felt a bit like a bait and switch.
Everything else about my experience was positive. The "permanent" holes were in great shape and the greens were in nice shape. Nice pace of play. The staff was very friendly,.
Excellent value, awesome layout and perfect greens!
Staff is very friendly and the layout of the course provides ample challenge for golfers of all levels. The greens are very smooth and were running very true. I'll be returning yet again as I've now played the course a handful of times. I would highly recommend this course to anyone in the Chicagoland area - about 50 minutes from downtown Chicago.
Best greens & course for your money
I've been playing Midlane for few years now. Thr course was in immaculate condition and the best greens around. The greens were smooth as glass and running 11 to 12 every time I've played it. Unfortunately midlane had terrible luck and the rain storm few weeks ago damaged 6 & 7th hole. Even with these damage, they worked hard to get the course to playing condition! I don't understand the bad reviews from some of the reviews! They fore warn everyone about the condition, and for them to leave a bad review is pretty unfair! Mike the head pro is working deligently to get the damaged holes repaired for play. Let's come out and support Midlane, it will be spectacular again!
Flooding ravaged the front nine
This course has always been in great shape until after this years flooding. The front nine was like playing on the moon. Not much grass left. The play was great because of this. Staff did start people on the back nine right in front of us.
Great lay out
Unfortunately this course was flooded out 2 weeks ago. Dead fish everywhere and it was 88 degrees - not pretty.
Will try it again when they redo the closed 6th and 7th hole and get rid of the stench.
great time
took out a golf board and played what a great time course is in great shape
great course, great day
We had a great round. Two couples, higher handicap golfers. First time on the course. Men played from the white tees. Found the course to be fair and challenging. Greens were quick and rolled true. Hole #5 deserves its #1 handicap rating. A great value ($34 each through Golf Now). Would definetly return and play again.
Professional Golfer Review
Under new management. Shook hands with the owner. Stand up gentleman and head pro Mike is an honest man of his word!
This course has the layout, tee shot complexity, green speed, and challenging holes to adequately test a professional golfers game. Yet it is still enjoyable for the amateur golfer who loves quality courses for their buck. Though a 50min drive from the city I'm playing there on Memorial Day!
Great Value!
Course was in excellent condition. Greens were good speed. Layout is old school mixed with ne school. What makes the course challenging are the greens and pin placements.
Excellent conditions
Great shape. Fast greens. Friendly course for the amateur. I would play there anytime. Friendly people. All was good time.
Lights out
Best course on GolfNow in northern Illinois by far. Hats off to the course supervisor! I'll be back!
Midlane
It is a beautiful course, with lots of water and natural beauty. Many challenging holes. Great overall value. This course was selected to be a Qualifier for upcoming US Open. Head Pro Mike Chappell and his staff are first rate and continue to make great improvements. Check out their new website an Go play. Enjoy.
Great Deal/Good course
November golf. Cold day, but course condition was impressive. Very few playing so speed of play was awesome. Played 36 holes in under 4 hours.
Back in the rotation.
Started playing Midlane in the early 80's when the pro shop was in a barn. Always a fun layout, I stopped coming after the 27 holes they grew to, were being developed for housing. Finally came back this year (after a 12-15 yr layoff) 3 times. Each visit was better than the next. Very friendly pro shop staff. Not crowded early in AM. And, I like the routing and variety of holes now as well. The only throw away is #6. Used to be a challenging par 3 but now a terrible, forced carry par 4 that needs a huge facelift. That said, the greens were phenomenal and not just for November. Smooth and FAST. Give it a look, you won't be disappointed.
All-round Great Course
Played Midlane today for the first time and I was very impressed. Greens and bunkers were in great condition, especially considering the time of year. Water comes in to play on 14/18 holes which gives you a nice challenge and I had to use all the clubs in my bag. Staff was very helpful (talked with Mike in the pro shop and he showed a lot of passion for both the course and game). Highly recommend this course to anyone.
great golf
played on nov. 1 and the weather was outstanding for november, partly sunny, upper 60's. Course was in excellent shape , greens rolled nice.
Midlane Golf Resort
The Good: Midlane is an interesting, well-conditioned Robert Bruce Harris (designed The Brute) track in far north Chicago suburbs. Residential course that meanders through a lot of houses, yet secluded enough to not feel claustrophobic. Nice triad of Par 5's and a couple great, demanding Par 3's. Decent variety in Par 4's. Above average greens that putt very quickly. Nice clubhouse and nearby lodging is nice touch. Good practice facility, albeit not conveniently located, has full range, putting green and short game area. Good value: course reduced fees by 50% prior to aeration.
The Bad: Pace of play continues to be a challenge with this course. Tee box areas are uneven and in mediocre shape. Greens putt true but many had goose droppings all over them. Service is average at best. No restroom areas and no GPS on carts. Too many blind shots off the tee for the average golfer.
The Verdict: Midlane is a decent option in the North Shore area due to bang for the buck. Pretty fun course that could do without all the geese. Nothing special, nothing terrible.
Best Hole: Par 5's are strong, but the long Par 4 12th is a beast. Tight drive requires soft draw and then approach to a sliver of an elevated green.
