St. Andrews Golf & Country Club - St. Andrews Course
About
Opened in 1926, in the "Classical ERA" of U.S. course development, St. Andrews Golf & Country Club has been recognized as the oldest family owned-operated golf course in Illinois.
St. Andrews Golf & Country Club was originally built in 1926 as a rival to the Chicago Golf Club. Since then, the club has built its own reputation and stands out for its two championship golf courses and top-ranked practice center. The St. Andrews Course is the club's original layout before the Joe Jemsek Course was added in 1929. It is also the longer of the two golf courses. The club and course draw their name from the famous Scottish club known as the "home of golf," but the course is far from being a seaside links. Instead, the mostly flat layout weaves through mature trees. The golf course offers a challenge with tight, tree-lined doglegs and large, contoured greens framed with sand bunkers. It has a memorable finish with a par 4 that features a water hazard along the entire right side of the fairway.

Golfer Reviews
As expected?
So a few things - I have been here multiple times. I need to go during the actual summer time in order to really benefit from this course. Even though the weather was not too cold and a tad windy, playing conditions for the most part were ideal. However, a few things: Tee blocks weren't set up correctly, so I was guessing as to where to hit from back tees. There weren't a lot of people playing on this day, but because of that fact, there was a foursome who were just taking their sweet time on each hole. I told them I would just skip over them since I had to wait (I played alone). You would think they would either let me play through or something, but no such courtesy. No marshall driving around making sure pace of play was moving along.
I hate having to skip a hole, because you know, you paid the full price to play each hole... but I guess if it allows me to play at my own pace, it's worth it. I will definitely be going back because I love this course, but I can only hope it will be better the next time around.
Getting better
Course is getting better. Greens are better than last time I played although a little slow. bunkers good, tees good., some new carts and GPA is improved except when you get off the hole your playing
St. Andrews West Chicago - Course 1
Course is in nice shape and greens are well kept, Clubhouse food snd service is always great as well.
High Rough - Makes play very difficult
Played early morning , prior to cut and the rough was impossible to get out unless I used a high iron. 7-9 , making it hard to score and difficult to find the ball as the grass would just swallow it up.
I would say next time I will make sure the rough was cut.
Staff is the best rangers knew finding balls just off the fairway was difficult and helped all the early groups locate the balls.
Making lots of improvements on the course which is great to see.
Good value
Nice course, play the front as a foursome walking in two hours made the turn for the back nine the Ranger approached us and asked us to close the gap. Not sure this guy knows what he’s talking about in front of us was a twosome who quit after nine holes so of course there would be a gap in front of us kind of put a damper on the rest of the afternoon. Too bad. The guy couldn’t look at a T sheet and figure this out.
Decent Course but Greens too Slow
This course is almost always in pretty good condition. I think because of all the rain, the greens were pretty slow (not cut as usual). Some tees were pretty sparse and there were spots on the fairways that were lacking grass.
