St. Andrews Golf & Country Club - St. Andrews Course
About
Opened in 1926, in the "Classical ERA" of U.S. course development, St. Andrews Golf & Country Club has been recognized as the oldest family owned-operated golf course in Illinois.
St. Andrews Golf & Country Club was originally built in 1926 as a rival to the Chicago Golf Club. Since then, the club has built its own reputation and stands out for its two championship golf courses and top-ranked practice center. The St. Andrews Course is the club's original layout before the Joe Jemsek Course was added in 1929. It is also the longer of the two golf courses. The club and course draw their name from the famous Scottish club known as the "home of golf," but the course is far from being a seaside links. Instead, the mostly flat layout weaves through mature trees. The golf course offers a challenge with tight, tree-lined doglegs and large, contoured greens framed with sand bunkers. It has a memorable finish with a par 4 that features a water hazard along the entire right side of the fairway.

One of the Best Value Courses Around
St. Andrews is one of the most reasonable courses in the area without sacrificing much quality.
Pretty fun layout with a good mix of short and long holes. The course will play easy if you hit it straight. Almost every fairway is tree lined, so you can sometimes be punished for going left or right. Greens were in good condition and rolling mostly true. There are a lot of large greens that punish you for landing in the wrong spot. The bunkers are taken care of.
Some tee boxes were beat up and/or neglected (hole 3 for example). A lot of the fairways were coated with tree droppings.
Pace of play was abysmal but is somewhat expected for a weekend afternoon. The course should invoke a ranger to enforce pace of play throughout the course, not just enforcing tee times. The screens in the carts show your pace, but no one seems to follow that. This is a decent course for beginners, but any beginner should know when they are holding up pace.
Customer service sucks
Played here multiple times. The course is okay and it's taken care of as well as you'd expect. Price is way to high for carts and green fees. The real issue here is the staffs attitude. Just plainly terrible. Only nice guy was the older gentleman who was the starter. The rest of the staff think they are better than everyone else and even told my foursome to pick up pace even though we were 3 to 5 min ahead on the cart through every hole. Every time I play here they find some reason to interrupt your round and say something. It's a course I avoid playing.
Case of the Elm trees seeds
The Elm trees seeds were covering the greens. Significantly interfered with putting. Groundskeeper was riding around with a blower but we never saw it I. Use. We suspect it either broke down, or was ineffective due to the number of them. Other than that it’s a great course.
This course. Has been my go to course for 40 years
The Jemseck family has always maintained St Andrews as a “A “ listed course
Course in Great Shape
St. Andrews is always a fun course to play. Many of the Par 4s play long. The greens are huge, which is a blessing and curse. You can get on the green but face a 40 to 50 foot putt. In other words, prepare for several 3 putts. The St. Andrews course was in great shape. Our only complaint is they don't bundle the price with a cart. The cart cost seem a bit high and they add on tax and amusement tax to the cart's cost, which seems odd.
Good course and pace of play
Played comfortably in 3.5 hours. Doesn't always go that fast, but this was enjoyable. Course was in pretty good shape for early in the season.
