St. Andrews Golf & Country Club - St. Andrews Course
About
Opened in 1926, in the "Classical ERA" of U.S. course development, St. Andrews Golf & Country Club has been recognized as the oldest family owned-operated golf course in Illinois.
St. Andrews Golf & Country Club was originally built in 1926 as a rival to the Chicago Golf Club. Since then, the club has built its own reputation and stands out for its two championship golf courses and top-ranked practice center. The St. Andrews Course is the club's original layout before the Joe Jemsek Course was added in 1929. It is also the longer of the two golf courses. The club and course draw their name from the famous Scottish club known as the "home of golf," but the course is far from being a seaside links. Instead, the mostly flat layout weaves through mature trees. The golf course offers a challenge with tight, tree-lined doglegs and large, contoured greens framed with sand bunkers. It has a memorable finish with a par 4 that features a water hazard along the entire right side of the fairway.

Staff was friendly, except for the lady at the check-in.
The St.Andrews course I played is average in maintenance and difficulty. Driving range and practice facility are very good. The cart was sluggish at best and the GPS display was unusable.
Great Value
Nice round at St. Andrews today. Smooth check in and started on time. The conditions were good on the course and the speed of play was great for a day before a holiday. My only complaint: it was 92° and we never once saw a refreshment cart in 18 holes. That is a major muss by the management.
Good experience
I had a great round this morning. I don’t like that the putting green is not close to the 1st tee on the St. Andrews course. Would have liked to had the snack bar open at the 9th hole even though it was early morning. Course is in good condition.
We use to play this course as a senior rate of $29.00 with a cart! Much higher now!
management faults
I am 75yrs.old and have been playing st.andrews since the70's.The courses are fine for all levels of players. This review has to do with the pandemic. If I was an activist I would file a discrimination complaint against the club. Now that two riders per cart are allowed I am forced to pay $5 extra to ride alone.Senior rates have already been cancelled.I can ride with a stranger and wear a mask for the entire round and pay $5 less. However,I suffer from a disease that weakens my immune system,so any chance of exposure to the virus is unacceptable. In effect,I am being penalized for having this condition. Also,I played at 7:10 in the morning and there was no one else around, but I was still charged the extra fee. This just seems wrong to me.

Very enjoyable public course
I've played no. 1 today, but have played both courses in the past. It's a good public courses and, given the price, the best on the area. Not particularly challenging. Water only comes onto play on 18, which is a favorite hole of mine. Longer par 3s. Nice fairways, and the greens can be challenging. I finished the round in just over 4 hours, but there was a backup starting on the 6th hole and for the rest of play. Overall very enjoyable. Nd the staff is very friendly and accomidating. I'll be back this year.
Great greens
Played this course yesterday. It is no pushover. Nice layout—some lengthy holes—nicely conditioned—very difficult greens in great shape and quick. All in all an enjoyable experience—especially for the money.
No rangers in sight
Arrived at 1230 for my tee time at 1250. Was told by the starter to keep pace with the group in front of you. Which we did all day. Except that 2 groups in front of us decided not too. By the time we got to the 6th hole they were already a whole hole behind. By the time we got to 12 they were 2 holes behind. Not once did a ranger come by and tell them to play faster or skip a hole. By the time we were on 16 they were 3 holes behind. Needless to say we ended up playing over 5 hours. What a joke. WHERE ARE THE RANGERS !!!! WONT BE COMING BACK ANYTIME SOON. THANKS FOR TELLING US TO KEEP PACE ST ANDREW'S

Couldn’t pass on the deal through GolfNow
Never played this course. Ended up playing on a beautiful day, greens were rolling very very well, course is challenging and well kept. No two holes felt similar. Great day of golf and one of my new favorites.
Great challenging, long but fun course
I always enjoyed playing here. It's a long course. So, for not a long hitter like me, it's difficult to keep the score low but it's truly fun to play at this course. The greens are immaculate and very challenging. The fairways are very well maintained. The roughs are tough. Overall a great course! Definitely plan to play again soon!
Great course
I played St Andrews course and it was challenging but great! The course was very well maintained even with the downpour we had over the weekend. The staff was very friendly and nice. Will definitely be playing here again, although may wait till carts are available because it is very challenging to walk 18 holes. Ended up coming out to be about 7 miles of walking.
Good practice facilities
I played this course during the Covid-19 restrictions, so the pace of play was no issue. In the past, I remember some long rounds on the weekends. Overall the course was in great shape and the greens were challenging on several holes. For the price paid ($41), I would definitely go bak.
Fantastic Course
Always driven by St.Andrews, but never played it. Course was beautiful and challenging. Loved the layout and the maintenance of the course was fantastic. Will definitely play here again.
