St. Andrews Golf & Country Club - St. Andrews Course
About
Opened in 1926, in the "Classical ERA" of U.S. course development, St. Andrews Golf & Country Club has been recognized as the oldest family owned-operated golf course in Illinois.
St. Andrews Golf & Country Club was originally built in 1926 as a rival to the Chicago Golf Club. Since then, the club has built its own reputation and stands out for its two championship golf courses and top-ranked practice center. The St. Andrews Course is the club's original layout before the Joe Jemsek Course was added in 1929. It is also the longer of the two golf courses. The club and course draw their name from the famous Scottish club known as the "home of golf," but the course is far from being a seaside links. Instead, the mostly flat layout weaves through mature trees. The golf course offers a challenge with tight, tree-lined doglegs and large, contoured greens framed with sand bunkers. It has a memorable finish with a par 4 that features a water hazard along the entire right side of the fairway.

Good course to walk
This course is relatively flat so it's a good course to walk. The course was in great shape in my opinion. There are two 18 hole courses here and the St.Andrews course is my favorite of the two.
Beautiful Day
Staff did a great job explaining distancing procedures. Loved the spacing and no issues with touch points. Would be best if pool noodles all same height in the hole. Glad to see all the Beautiful Trees!
Good Shape and Pace
Scorecards were set out and no physical interaction. Course was in good shape we walked and finished in 3 hours 15 minutes
Classic home course. The rough can be like US Open thickness. Some good long holes. And when your done you got that bar!
Bad customer service
Went to course to find out Golfnow canceled my tee time golf course did not accommodate us and left with no sympathy or help from the course did not get to golf
St. Andrews West Chicago
Course is fair and challenging. Covered golf carts make it tolerable during cold weather. Staff very friendly and great amenities.
Just very good golf
Course always in good shape. Plenty of room off the tee and can make greens as tough as they wish. Large greens with plenty of contour.
PTT
We have had a PTT for 7 years at St. Andrews. We play there because the course has improved every year especially the greens. Greens are nice and fast now, fastest in the early spring, The trees are always a challenge which makes it fun. At times, they let the rough grow too high and it gets near impossible to find your ball on an errant shot off the fairway.
Would love to see better and discounted rates for the PTT members. At times, we have seen better pricing on Golfnow either in front of us or behind us.
Year round golf
St. Andrew's has covered golf carts for playing in cooler weather. You may be limited to cart path only, but most days you can take a cart out.
Choice of two 18 hole courses that challenge even mid-level players to have an enjoyable experience.
Friendly staff, decent course management.
Great Course for a permanent time
I have been part of a group with a permanent Saturday tee tiime since the early '90's. It is a great idea as they have 2 courses and you switch course 1 and 2 alternate weeks. it would be less interesting to play the same 18 every week as you would with other courses. This course has always been up to Country Club standards except for the greens. In comparison to a country club they are quite slow, but still very well maintained. i guess they cannot set them up to a very high stimp rating with the number of rounds on this track. The clubhouse has a great bar and food menu with wonderful staff. Courtney the waitress and Dave, her bartender brother, really take good care of you.
My Personal Best Due To True Greens
I play with a bunch of other retirees and every Monday of the season, one of us is in charge of making course arrangements. I often choose St. Andrews as I shot a legit 81 there a few years’ back after an early morning rainstorm saw skies brighten and even a rainbow. As a clergyman the guys in my foursome joked about divine intervention when my wedgeshots stuck like Velcro and I putted better than ever before (or since)! The beer was extra cold and the burger juicy after that memorable round. It’s a challenge, but we’ll-kept, with friendly staff and a reasonable greens fee make it a joy to play. I prefer the St. Andrews course over their other 18.
Great Parkland Layout
St. Andrews is a great club, with two fine parkland-style courses providing fair tests to golfers of all skill-levels. At near 7,000 yards from the back tees, and with 4 sets of tees available, both courses offer unique challenges. The bunkers and greens are typically in great condition, with the greens being the great defense for both courses. The practice facility is first rate, with expansive grass tees, heated bays in winter, and great bunker, chipping and putting practice areas too. The Pro Shop staff, led by Head Pro Dave Erickson, are warm and friendly, and always available for help with your equipment or your game. The Clubhouse is also top notch, with a great menu offering a wide variety of options, and helpful and friendly staff. Definitely a great club to add to your rotation.
My 2 cents
This old guy loves both course's. A lot of room if you miss hit and still find your ball. Not a lot of Ball eating hazards besides the water and woods.
Always a pleasure
Been a couple of years but always great to be back here to play. Conditions were excellent and I love the old school layout.
Great course fun to play
We have played St Andrews many times in fact its the only course we play as the days get shorter and the temps drop. Whether it’s early spring or late fall or early winter we can always get a tee time.
Always Enjoy St. Andrews
This course is one of the best manged courses in the Chicago area. They treat their customers well and we always enjoy playing there.
Good Fun
Both courses are in great condition. Challenging for all skill levels, well maintained, super practice facility, and nice people to deal with.
