Water's Edge
Weather was beautiful minus the 8 a 10 mph breeze. Course was in good condition. The Greens were much faster than I remembered, rolled true, and held the ball on approach shots (can't ask for more than that).
Pace of play was good, several rangers on the course to ensure pace of play. My only gripe is the cart could not go beyond 50 - 60 yards of the green instead of the usual 25 yards. $67 is sort of steep, but, again, it was Father's Day.
Take a Pass at Any Cost
Booked a late afternoon tee time (3:20) and when we checked in were told we were playing behind an outing. The entire experience was a waste of time and money. The course looked like a battlefield (does anyone own a divot tool anymore?), the pace of play was beyond ridiculous (7 players on the green at a time), and there was not a ranger to be found. If you are thinking about playing this course and find a great deal, take a pass, even at $20 dollars a round you’ll be disappointed. It’s a real dog track!
Greens in good shape
Over all course was in great shape. Greens rolled really nice. Down side half way house had no selection for food. I would play again.
Better value elsewhere
Ravisloe is same price as Waters Edge and twice as good a course. We chose waters edge due to it's location. Pace of play was horrible with 4 guys ahead of us who looked like they were playing for the first time....and of the blue tees. I'm an average golfer myself but this was crazy. No sign of a ranger anywhere.
Course was in good condition but feel it's not worth $70
Wonderful track
I had heard good things about Water's Edge. It did not disappoint. Very good variety of holes and quite scenic. It was not crowded at all - which surprised me for a sunny Sunday.
All around poor experience
Golfing members/management of the staff played ahead of us and played so slow we only got in 13 holes at a 4:30pm tee time. They held up 4 groups behind them including us and didn't care. Food servers and service kids (carts, pro shop employees) were the only respectful staff there. They majored in the minors and don't seem to respect a player's experience but would rather you enjoy your social experience there. If you want to have a good time with friends eating & drinking, this is the place for you. If you're an avid golfer and serious player, spend your money at a course in the South east / south suburbs like Silver Lake, Deer Creek, Ravisloe, or especially Coyote Run.
Great Course
Played this course Memorial Day weekend. We played as a twosome. The group in front of us was pretty slow, but all in all it was a good experience. The greens had some tricky pin placements, but it just added to the challenge. My one complaint was the number of ball marks on the greens. I realize that's not the golf course's fault, but I was thinking to myself that the people that play there have no idea how to be a good steward to a golf course. There were mutiple greens that I fixed 5 or more marks. Again, this isn't a complaint again Waters Edge, but the people that play there. Overall, both my buddy and myself agreed that the course was solid, and that is now a course I will be looking forward to playing again.
Great condition
My wife & I played Waters Edge for probably the 30th time and we were both amazed at the great condition of the course. This course gets a ton of play and is often worn out. Yesterday the tee boxes were fully grown (often times they are quite bare), the rough was very long & thick (too much for my wife!), greens a bit slow, but in fine shape. We played in 3 hours 40 minutes and enjoyed ourselves totally.
Waters Edge
Course was in ok condition. There were no starters on the course or anybody monitoring pace of place. Was almost a 5 hour round. Overall course in good condition
Pricing!
The average golfer like can't afford a place like this.
And if you need to attract us more often. Then you have to price down the fees. Then it would be a busy place all the time.
this course is tough
its a very tough course to play, especially if you play from the wrong tees. its has some narrow fairways and tough greens. you need every club in your bag!!!!!
beautiful place in the middle of metropolis
well maintained beautiful woods spread out nicely can be played by anyone
Golf
Did not like that when I showed up to the course I was told we could only play nine holes. The course should make that clear when you book the tee time. Thank you
Fun Course, Very Slow Play
Played here a few times, and I really like the layout of the course. Not too difficult and in pretty good shape. Not sure when I will go back though, it took us over 5.5 hours to play on Saturday, and that was teeing of at 9AM!! Ranger told us at check in it was playing 4.5 hours, at first hole, which is what I would expect. Only saw him one time after that, on the 7th hole. When we mentioned that it was playing really slow, he pretty much agreed but didn't seem very interested in doing anything to speed it up. Was more concerned about where the last group was, so that the noon outing could get out on time. I did mention to the pro shop that it was really slow, and they apologized and gave me some range tokens, not too sure how soon I will be back here though.
great tree lined course
this is really a nice track, was suprized by the layout, will definetly be back!
Overbooked!!
I used over 5 hours for 18 holes to describe my experience but actually my partner and I only played 9 holes. It took 3 hours to play 9 holes!! Riding back to the clubhouse we noticed there were two and three groups backed up at each hole. There were a mixture of twosomes and foursomes, so why didn't they combine the twosomes? Very poorly managed!! The course had old divots and bare spots all over. Will never go back unless it drastically improves!!
Fun course, friendly staff, easy to find early tee times
Several times I have booked an early tee time for the weekend one day ahead of time. This course has come a long way over the several years I've played here and is in generally very good condition. There are several holes that present challenging shots, such as the dogleg over the water approach shot to a shallow green on number 11. You're also challenged with Trees on either one side or the other from the tee, so you have to be a bit creative whether you hit right-to-left or left-to-right. I like this course a lot and consider it my regular go-to.
fairways over watered, making 15 feet from greens, soft and ball would plug.

Nice Track - challenging
Waters Edge is a great course, and given the property's past as an urban environmental eyesore, all the more impressive.
The holes are distinctive and challenging and the location along the Cal-Sag channel is unique. The clientele, however, needs to learn to fix divots and ball marks, and the tee boxes and greens need some TLC.
I have played it since it opened and have always enjoyed it. Good food at the club house and nice staff an added plus.
WIll Go Back
Not long but tight, fairways were in fantastic condition for how much play they get, greens were slow but consistent and in nice shape. Got out at 6:30am on a Saturday and done by 10am. Each hole is a bit different and presents its own challenges. Very easy to get to from downtown. Will definitely be back
