Nice value for a straighforward course
There's nothing really difficult about this course, but that isn't always a bad thing. We played with a guy who would be generously called a beginner, and this course was just difficult enough not to bore the seasoned pro, but easy enough to not frustrate the beginner, a very good mix.
Fun
Water's Edge is a fun and challenging course! Played it early on a weekday and got around it in 3 1/2 hours. Course was in really good shape with soft yet fast greens. Mosquitos were a bit of a problem and not having the practice range open were the only two drawbacks. I've played the course many times throughout the years and it always seems to be in great shape!
Course is in good shape
The course is in good shape. Problems with the fairways dying seem to be a non issue this year. Greens were a little slow.
Well maintained course except greens.
I've read a couple reviews and noticed that some people commented on the lack of care for the greens. That is exactly what my fiance and i saw today on almost every single green. The course itself was pretty easy and again maintained for the most part, BUT the group in front of us seemed like they were not playing ready golf and kept dragging their spikes all over the greens and never fixed their divots!
That's the only problem we had were the greens. Oh yeah and it was like 100 degrees out there too. Would go back for sure and crush this course!
Nice course with good value
I play here pretty often during early mornings. you can generally get a decent deal at Water's Edge throughout the week. Staff is friendly, and the course is challenging and fair. It is playable for all skill levels. It gets a little too wet sometimes but overall I enjoy playing this course. If you go during peak hours, the course can play pretty slow, but I usually play early so I miss most of that. Overall, If you take advantage of some of their hot deals, it is one of the best value courses when you compare it to some of the outrageous prices many of these south suburban courses charge.
Golfers please take care of this course/greens somewhat bumpy
B. Casper managed and like an earlier reviews I made in regards Orchard Valley this mgnt company just doesn't know how to maintain greens many of which were bumpy. Course does get a lot of play but many greens are pock marked full of old ball marks and teeing grounds are full of divots...finding a level place where your feet aren't in divots on tees can be difficult. Unfortunately majority of the golfers at this place refuse to take care of the course.....I fixed at least 4 fairly fresh ball marks on each green, replaced/filled numerous divots in fairways and while the sand traps were maintained somewhat decently......no one seems to want to rake them. This a fun track to play but in the afternoon extremely slow play is the norm. Group in front of us had an entire hole and half open in front of them and they actually slowed down after the ranger talked with them. Held up the entire course behind them...didn't faze them a bit. They took at least 20 minutes to play the 18th. Again this is really enjoyable track but just expect average course conditions and allow at least 4 3/4 to 5 hours plus to play on the weekends.....because a 5 hour plus round has happened to our group here several times.....
Water's Edge in Worth, IL
Played on a Sunday and was pleasantly surprised on the great pace of play. Expecting a 5 hour round, but our 4some finished in just over 4 hours. Fairways were in very good shape. Greens were just a tad slow but the weather has been very hot the last couple of weeks, so I'm sure they are just protecting them.
Gorgeous course
Had a great round early Saturday morning. Was done in about 3.75 hours and was neither pushed nor held up. Had rain the night before but course dried out well. Lots of trees and greenery and fairways were in great shape. Great course in an easy to get to location. Plan on going back soon.
Excellent layout and challenging but fair.
Overall a fun course that should be a challenge for most people. Long enough to challenge everyone, layout is difficult enough for all. Course was in excellent condition, greens were in great shape and well-maintained. Service was very good.
What else do you need?
Will be back.
if you had a 10 star rating they would get it.
course is in excellent shape, played it 2 years ago and conditions where bad.what a difference new management can do to a course.will play again for sure.will also tell my other friends to play.
Good, but distractions abound.
The course was fairly challenging and was in good shape. The only complaint I had was that about 12 of the holes featured maintenance work during our round. We played from 7:30-11:30 on a Thursday and the greenskeepers were omnipresent.
Nice change from last year
I played here last year & the course was in ruff shape. Last week, I was very surprised to find the course in very good shape. Divots had been repaired & the greens were in very good shape for a public course that get a lot of play. It helps that after the round, show your scorecard & receive a free draft domestic beer. That led our group to stay & have lunch. The revamped menu was very good.
Course summary
This course is always in prodominently good shape. The only really negative aspect is (and has) been about this course is the sand traps. If there is any rain, the staff should be more proactive in getting the sands back together. I did see them out working hard on pruning trees, cutting grass, etc.
Worst golf experience I have ever had in 20 years of playing golf
We arrived at the course shortly before our 12:30 tee time. We had to wait 45 minutes to tee off. In addition to this, the round took 5+ hours to finish. I will not be going back to this course again.
Challenging, poor value/pace for price
A relatively challenging course. Not a ton of water, but a good amount of trees on most holes gets you into trouble if you miss the fairway by more than a little. Lots of balls marks on the greens, but otherwise OK. Tee boxes really need attention. Had a 6:48 tee time, and didn't get off until after 7. Weren't really held up, but I'm not sure how you can be backed up at the tee before 7am.
1 water jug on the course about hole 5 or 6. Thats it. If this place is going to charge $70+ plus, I expect the pace to be better, water coolers every 5 or 6 holes, and greens in better condition. We teed off early, and did not see the beverage cart until about the 13th or 14th hole. Not acceptable. The halfway house was open, and $10 for 6 beers was a pretty sweet deal.
When I mentioned the water coolers and drink cart to the staff, they were pretty dismissive. The guy at the pro shop said they were out filling the water coolers now. I was like, "well its noon so thats about 4 hours too late."
I would not come back to this course without a coupon or a special. There is NO WAY its worth the full price.
course has challenging holes
was in good condition but wet due to rains. cart path only resulted in slow play
Save your money
DUMP!! Staff just doesn't care and that's a direct result of the GM Brian D. who just has a bad attitude and feels he and his staff can do nothing wrong... Played sunday 5/19/13 hot day, no cart girl teed off at 2:40 half way house closed, ALL water jugs empty... Just another example of Billy Casper failing the game of golf... Brian D. also thinks 5 hours is ok for a round of golf....
Nice course.....great staff!
Always fun to play with a mix of challenging and "scoring" holes. BUT tee boxes need attention, and grass clippings are all over the place. Staff is among the best in Chicagoland...
Solid course, good condition, usually windy.
Water's Edge is a sold course for the price, especially with a GolfNow discount. The layout is challenging and varied with wind usually being a factor. It's important to find the fairway off the tee or this course can make for an ugly score and lots of lost balls! My only issue to management is to please make sure the water coolers are filled, especially on the back 9. It was 85 degrees yesterday and we didn't see a beverage cart or available cooler for 9 holes!
Good South Side Course
Played the last week in April not expecting much with the weather being what it was. Greens were is good condition and would be better if people would repair there ball marks. Fairways were cut nice and rough was quite thick. Very fun course, played here a few times before and will be back. They could use a few rangers to keep the drinkers on pace.
I agree with this review 100%. Just attended an outing there and the GM Brian has no idea of the concept of customer service or golf course managment. The greens were in terrible shape, we saw the beverage cart once in 18 holes, the pace of play was horrific, and Brian was the rudest and most inconsiderate person I have ever dealt with at a course. There's plenty of better options, with better customer service, for golf on the south side of Chicago.
