Cousre in good shape
The course was in great shape it has been about 6 years since I've played here. The only draw back was the green they have been aerated and are not back in putting shape yet. That was the only draw back the rest of the course was in great shape and played well. They were crowd and the pace of play was still good.
$50 price with aeration on greens
STILL charged $50 and the greens were just aerated a couple of days before with heavy sand and deeper aeration holes still. Putting was very slow and bumpy.
Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback, we apologize if the aerification of the greens made your return to the course less than satisfactory. Our greens are healing quickly and the course will only improve as the weather gets warmer. Please click on the link to read more about why we aerate the course. We hope you will join us for another round soon! http://www.watersedgegolf.com/the-word-at-waters-edge/golf-course-aeration-a-breath-of-fresh-air
Bad experience..
Booked tee time on golfnow for $38. Got to the course only to be informed that only 9 holes were open for play..they were aeriating the greens.. The greens were as unplayable as any I have ever played.. I had been looking forward to playing there for a long time and am VERY disappointed with the condition it was in.. I am also upset that I had to pay as much as I did for the condition it was in..
Routine maintenance, including aerification, is necessary in order to maintain healthy course conditions. We do our best to effectively communicate these processes and do apologize that this prevented you from having a positive experience at Water's Edge. We take all feedback very seriously in order to create the best experience possible for every guest. We hope you will give Water’s Edge another chance soon so we can provide you with a top notch experience. Thank you again for your feedback.
Nice course on a nice Day
The concessions weren't open yet, but they didn't lessen the wonderful day out on a nice course.
Course in great condition for early season opening
Greens and fairways were in good condition for mid March, even starting to green up. Took 4 hours to play the morning round and only 3 to play in the afternoon. A gem of a course in the southwest suburbs!
Disappointed.
The greens were a little rough. May have been the group ahead of us. We took a cart and have never been so bombarded with advertisements coming across on the GPS monitor. Sometimes more than once on a hole. Many times while someone was taking there shot. This has no place on a golf cours.
Great Condition
Course was in outstanding condition. We teed off a little ahead of schedule at 7AM on a Saturday. There were two of us, but the foursomes in front of us let us play through by the 5th hole and we didn't see golfers the rest of the day. Excellent etiquette observed on this course. Pace was excellent, conditions perfect...staff on the ground could have been friendlier but that is just splitting hairs. A little expensive, but a decent value.
This course is well laid out and provides a challenge to any golfer while still remaining fair.
Some great holes on this course with some very contoured greens. Has a great mixture of long and short holes that will have you hitting every club in your bag.
Water's Edge Golf Club
The Good: Visually appealing municipal track just southwest of Chicago borders the Little Calumet River (hence the name). Layout has a northern Michigan feel without the elevation, diving into heavy woodlands. Strong Par 5's and nice variety in Par 4's. Good fairway conditions and large, undulating greens that putt pretty true. Decent clubhouse is not large but has upscale feel with nice on-site restaurant. On-course amenities are above average with good signage and restroom areas. Lighted driving range, great short game area. Nice staff and very good pace of play for a municipality track. Very good overall value for suburban Chicago.
The Bad: Sand trap areas are in rough shape and tee box areas need improvement. Greens putt a little slow for the undulation and are often set up unfair. No GPS is a bummer. Par 3's are unmemorable and not overly challenging. The other holes can be too tough with water on almost every hole.
The Verdict: Water's Edge is another strong option in southwestern Chicago. Be prepared to have to hit the ball straight or bring an extra sleeve of balls.
Best Hole: The short Par 5 13th is true risk reward. A drive must be threaded between water and a large sand trap with an uphill approach in two must cover a trio of sand traps.
Slowest round ever
Slowest round I have ever had. Saw a ranger once but he was just driving around doing nothing. Quit after 5 hours, think we got through 14 holes. Ridiculous. Whole operation is very unorganized.
Greens are also very beat up. Not maintained.
Slightly over watered but in decent shape
Waters Edge always a fun play if you can get a $30 or under rate. Played long due to thick rough and fairways had less roll than expected (thus my over watering comment in the review title) and approach shots hitting the green left a huge ball mark. Course always suffers from slow play especially on the back nine most especially in the afternoon. A foursome of women had 1 1/2 holes open in front of them which resulted in an almost 3 hour back They are trying to maintain the course (lots of workers and ongoing projects) but the course gets so much play that the teeing areas are rough, greens can be bumpy - over watering, golfer scuff marks, old ball marks). 4 tee shots ended up in a divot on the fairway...that being said the course overall is in good shape with acceptable somewhat slow green speed and decently maintained sand. Just wish more folks replaced/repaired divots and ball marks properly,,,, and actually picked up their feet on greens rather than shuffling. Since you can't give 1/2 stars it's closer to 4 star than 3 star......but not by much so I'm giving the 4 star rating since the current average is 3.4.
Good Day
I think the price is fair for this course, greens
could have been a little better & would have
been if a bunch of lazy people knew how
to fix ball marks.
Sometimes at the mercy of the pairing
1st time playing Waters Edge. Different than I expected. More wooded, little tighter. Enjoyed the golf course, pretty decent variety of holes. Players could do a much better job of taking care of ball marks and filling divots (not the courses fault) I unfortunately got paired with a guy who decided he had to make a negative comment and point out all the possible problems on every hole. I made the mistake early in the round of telling him I had never played there and any assistance would be appreciated. He apparently took that as a green light to negatively comment every time I hit a less than stellar shot and I shot an 81 thank God I didn't shoot 100.......Back nine I was just trying to finish so I could stop listening to the negativity Oh Well.............Waters Edge good not great course but would recommend to others
has potential
greens and teeboxs were all beat up(does anyone fix a ballmark any more),also, average golfer does not appreciate pin placements put on top or bottom of a rise on the green so you spend the day trying to figure out how hard to hit putt to get it to hole only to stop a foot short or as playing partners did 15-20 feet coming back
Great gem
Despite following a outing it was a gr8 round. Pace could have been faster
Not as fun as it could be
In all honesty the course is OK but when it comes to the "fun factor" I didn't think it had it and here is why.
Almost all the greens are three tiered. So for the average golfer just hitting the green in regulation hardly secures a good look at birdie or even par. I was really disappointed in the 7th hole. It's a 180 (from the blue) par three which for most mediocre players is an iron shot that doesn't have much chance of stopping. Well The green has a low point at the front, then a plateau that might be 4 feet wide, and then another low point at the back. Well the hole was put on this very small plateau. Get real! That's not fun, and that's why I'm out there to have a good time not to play putt-putt. There should've been a windmill or a clown's mouth around that hole!
Beautiful course
This is a beautiful golf course! Every hole is scenic and a joy to play. I can't wait to play here again.
a day at waters edge
A little disappointed fairways were in good condition greens were some of the worst I have ever seen. There were so many divots almost like some one spent the day chipping on them.we were stuck behind a twosome that did not understand while we're young.
Great Time on a Beautiful, Challenging Course
First time we played this course and we had a great time! VERY long greens, so it took longer than usual for us to play 18 holes, even with a cart. The week of rain made for a soggy course, but we enjoyed the beautiful scenery and landscaping along the challenging course. Other players need to respect the game and repair their divots - the course was the most "chewed up" I've ever seen any course, so players, please be courteous and take the little time required to help maintain the fairways for the golfers after you! There was a good "mix" of golfer abilities we observed, and as beginners ourselves, we felt comfortable playing what we deem a challenging course, so give it a try! The staff was courteous. And the discounted price we got on GOLFNOW.com was a TERRIFIC value (twilight 5pm $20 each for 18holes including a cart!). We'll be back again - with friends!
Course conditions
Prior to paying golfers should be notified that paying for a cart does not allow you to drive over to your ball We werenot allowed to cut at even 90deg to the ball. Making for a long long round. Yet full price
We are glad to hear you recently came out to play the course. The aeration process is in the healing stages now, and we hope you will come back out and enjoy a round again soon!
