Shepherd's Crook Golf Course

Shepherd’s Crook is awesome. First time playing, staff was incredibly friendly. Course is interesting, fair, challenging, and very well kept. Fairly open with some big greens and a decent amount of elevation change. Thick rough. Played early morning for a great value. Worth the drive even from Chicago!

In playing today’s round I told my buddy, The Crook is my number 1 favorite overall value for Chicago area golf. Can pretty much always get on, pace is good, cost is usually $40 or under, course is always well kept, layout is fun and playable but still a real challenge. Yeah it’s tough to get to, there’s no range but it’s definitely worth the drive.

Very challenging course laying out and green was fast but good condition.

Course is consistently in good condition. Greens are not perfect but certainly good and are consistent from round to round. Course has a nice mix elevation changes without being too hilly. Wind frequently makes the course play longer. Green complexes are varied with many ridges that create tough approach shots. Overall, one of the best values I’ve ever encountered for a course.

My favorite public course to play in the Chicago land area!!

This is my favorite course in Lake County. Great layout and condition. Very fair course and you have to earn you score. Stay in the fairway. Great 18th hole. I finally parred it.

Played course many times and course was in great shape .Greens rolled great. Fairways were in very good condition.

While 50 miles from home I generally play here about 5 times a year

Reason - good test - good conditions - good pace of play good value

Conditions were not ideal. Very wet, with drizzling rain, soaked fairways, and a lot of wind. Reminded me of playing on a typical Scottish day.

Solid layout and with these conditions, this course played about 7000 yards. Incredible 651 yard par five 14th hole to go along with a par 3 that played 254. This course has it all when it comes to a challenge. Very tough pins on this day that once I played this course once, I will know which ones to attack and which to play safe on.

On the negative side, the course only had one guy running the whole show, making it impossible to get any food or drink at the turn. Incredibly slow play and without a marshall, it made it tough for our 2-some to play through. Though the weather scared most away from the course, one foursome held up the whole course and would not let anyone play through. Definite lack of course etiquette with some of these older guys out on the course. I had my daughter playing with me and they didn't even think of letting us through. The fact that she was a much better player than all of them was not even considered. We jumped from the 10th tee to the 14th hole just to get in front of the slow play. By the time I hit the 18th tee, the old group in front of us were on the 12th green!

Ball marks were rampant but I think that was from a large outing there the day before.

I want to play this course in good weather. It is a great layout and there are tee boxes for every kind of golfer.

My favorite course in the area. Phenomenal layout.

Course was in great shape. Got out early on Labor Day and our 3-some got around in 3 hours. Not super lengthy (except for the par 5's), but the par 4's are still challenging enough and many holes had TOUGH pin placements. Can't beat it for the price.

This is a challenging, but fair course that is a lot of fun to play. Fairways and greens are in great shape. Got a hot deal this time, and it was a great value.

I like to mix up my course chooses to keep thing real. This course offers a nice selection of holes where driver is not needed, but don’t let short yardage on some hole fool you. Bring your bow and arrow and stay in the fairways. Quick smooth undulating greens mean use the practice green. You’ll have time as there is no driving range. That’s a bummer in my mind, but I’ll be back for the challenge.

Loved it the first time so we came back for another round. Nice links style course in excellent condition.
