Very wet
I live in Pennsylvania and came down to see my daughter. Played this course 2 years ago and loved it. Staff is nice. Played with 3 guys who were great which made it nice! Love the area!
I fell in love.
I heard a bear slide off golfnow.com saw it was highly ranked and the pictures look beautiful so when it came time to book a tee time for my for some coming from South Bend Indiana I knew bear slide was probably the place I wanted to play. Unfortunately the weather wasn't the greatest but it wasn't horrible it sprinkled unless quite a bit. But ask for the conditions of the course pristine the greens rolled perfectly the challenge getting to the grain was intense couldn't hit too many bad shots or miss the Fairway by too much or you could be in trouble but overall I enjoyed it very much instead of the other three I played with
Nice
Beautiful course, well manicured, will definitely be back.
This is a must play course
Great golfing experience. The course was in top shape. Very challenging shot makers course. Ridiculously low rates can be found online but worth the retail price as well. Bunkers and surrounding feather type grass rough are not to be messed with. Greens were very challenging as well. Nice putting and chipping greens that matched the course greens on length and speed.
Great course
I played on Veterans Day for $25 thanks to GolfNow. Course was in exceptional condition for mid November. I was especially surprised at how well the bunkers have been maintained. I golf every weekend from mid March thru mid Nov and drive all over the state of Indiana to play. This course is in my top 5.
One of my new favorite courses!
I had a chance to check this course off of my wish list, and it was one of the more enjoyable central Indiana courses that I've had the pleasure of playing.
One of my favorite cources
I like the differences from hole to hole. Each hole presents a different challenge. The course was in very good shape.
Good Challenge
Good variety of holes, doglegs left and right, good par 3's. This is a course you need to play a few times to score well.
Great course for the $$$$
Made a last minute tee time with frI ends and we wanted to play Bear Slide. Had a first timer to the course this time around. Loved it very challenging for him. Always love playing Bear Slide.
Long from the blue tees
Really enjoyed the round. Front nine open and long from the blue tees, back side completely different, tree lined with some sloping fairways. Greens were in good shape, as were the bunkers. The course is challenging but fair. I would recommend this course and a good value.
One of Indana's best
A great challenge and always in good condition. The greens roll true but could be just a bit faster at times.
It's a fair course in that if you hit a good shot you are rewarded and if you hit a bad shot...,well !
Staff is always helpful and friendly. Don't go expecting a high end pro shop or nice dining room but the course is hard to beat.
Super course
I love Bear Slide. You need to have played the back nine prior to understand a couple of the holes. Tee shot placement is very important and all you need to hit it is 175 yards for a short to mid iron to the green Great condition
Great for the price
Neat course with a challenging but fair layout. It is easy to see how the economy has taken its toll. Fewer golfers and lower prices mean less staff and less to spend on improvements. Overall still a great value for the price.
Sloowww!
I imagine that years ago it was a nice place. However everything about this place is dated. The buildings and clubhouse are "aged" and are in serious need of renovation. The same can be said for the course. The entire course needs some love. The cartpaths are potholed. There is a ridiculously trecherous bridge near the clubhouse. But my biggest complaint was the pace of play and total lack of marshalls or course management. Over 5 hrs to play removed any enjoyment we might have found here.
Thanks for your feedback. As we approach budget season your comments will be used to try to address some of the mentioned. The economy really hit us hard as play numbers and revenue took a hit which translated to a smaller staff and reduced funding for supplies. All of what you mentioned and much more has been proposed at budget time for the last several years but are removed to make the numbers work.
Makes you Think
If you've never played here or only a few times. This was my 1st time-it definitely makes you think about where to place your next shot __Love it!!
Also enjoyed 1st 9 being Links style and starting on #9 transitioning into a traditional midwest golf course design!
Lots of forgiveness on most holes if your drive isn't down the middle-- and theres a couple holes where the middle of the fairway is the only place to be. Pull that 4 iron out and place in the middle, most greens are accessible in 2 (Par 4's) if you do so.
Would I play here again? YES
Would I suggest this to a friend? ALREADY have
Worth the $$? YES
Pace of Play? EXCELLENT!!
Best Course in Indy
Play it, Love it, Repeat. Great course for anyone looking for a challenging and fun round. Course is usually immaculate
Good course...rudest Ranger EVER !!!
I couldn't wait to write this review!.... We chose Bear Slide from some locals that mentioned it, and travelled from out of state for a race weekend. We played on a scorching hot (97*) Saturday. We might have waited for less than 5 minutes on a group in front of us on a front nine par 3 but had no other hold ups, nor did we have anyone behind us on a single hole. When we came off 9 to make the turn, a ranger came up to me and pointed his finger in my face and very loudly said " I want to talk to you! 2 hours and 20 minutes is completely unacceptable. We expect you to keep up. You've been slow since the first hole!" He then berated our other cart for not adhering to a cart path sign on the 9th hole. Screaming at us!! We were the first to admit that we didn't see that particular sign and at no time did we purposely break any rule. I'm a 4 handicapper.. I've been on few courses in my life. We played in 4:40. Completely "acceptable" in my books for a scorching hot day, a course we've never played, very penalizing rough, a mixed group of handicaps (from 4 to 17) in our pairing, and pretty fast greens.
So about the course.... good course. It would be nice to have one more set of tees. Too big of a gap between 5900 and close to 6600 yards. That was long 6600 yards with the rough the course presents.
The head pro did go talk to the ranger and said it could have been handled better. TIp to ranger.... " Hey guys, it seems like you might have been just a tad slow on the time on the front, anything you guys can do to speed up, I'd appreciate. And please take special notice of all cart signs, it looks like you missed that one back there on 9. Thanks guys, have a good day, let us know if we can help". That's customer service where I come from and would have kept me coming back again. Not now. Buyer beware.
Always a Good Round
Bear Slide is a great course. Challenging but fair. The course is in great shape, except for the 16th green which they seem to struggle with perpetually. They actually installed a shower-style drain on part of the green, so if you hit it on the fly and get a large bounce, that's why.
A hot deal round here is the best value in the area. It's worth the drive from anywhere in the Indy area.
Thanks for the feedback. The 16th green keeps me awake at night. It was poorly constructed and holds water on the left and back. The left side also receives most of the entry and all of the exit foot traffic. Add to that the micro climate and the shade and the green has little chance. If I could add the picture of that green that I took last weekend it shows how much water was standing on the green. The drain is plastic, same as the hundreds of others on the course, and thus far we have had no reports of a ball landing on it.
Thanks for the feedback. As we approach budget season your comment will help address customer concerns. We try to maintain average ball roll about 10 which seems to have an equal number of commenters saying the greens are fast an slow. The greens are mowed the same every day and rolled on M-W-and F. Ball roll numbers will vary depending on weather conditions. Humid and wet = slower usually around 9.5 and dry = faster 10.5 to 11.
