Great Indy Golf
Bear Slide may not get the public kudos more well-known top tracks in the Indy area receive - Purgatory, Prairie View and the Trophy Club to name a few, but it belongs right up there. It's a good challenge, especially with the wind up, well-maintained and has a lot of variety in its makeup, especially the back 9. As with several other area courses right now, the greens are a little firm and not holding much, but they roll well.
Anyone would do well to make the drive and play this excellent course.
Not at its best
Have played here numerous times over several years...... It is a great layout with the exception of about 2-3 holes that seem stuck in there that don't make sense.
It's not in horrible condition, but I've played here twice this spring and it's in the worst shape I've seen it for this time of year. By this I'm saying the greens matter much to me as a single-digit handicap. I always came here knowing they would be fast and true. They punched the greens this spring and they are still bumpy. Also, they haven't gotten to in season conditions by putting water coolers out, etc.
Don't stay away, but not at its best currently.
Bear Slide Worth the Trip
A destination golf course near the Indianapolis area. Open links style golf on the front with some fun challenging holes that require some strategy. Pick you tee box wisely as the course is a par 71. Back side gets a bit more challenging. The course, on this side, becomes more of a target golf course and favors the accurate iron player. Hole 11 seems to need a rework but is a fun hole if you can hit the green in regulation.
For April, the course was in very good condition.
Great Course
Quality layout with some really great golf holes. Well manicured course with enough challenges for advanced players to enjoy.
good, almost great
It would have been Great, a 5 star for sure but they were doing some grounds work, (I know it has to be done, new irrigation and drainage and not knocking them for it... on the contrary) Watch out for the bee hive!!! It was awesome, you could hear them in the tree, freakin awesome. I bet if I played it again I'd give it 5 stars.
Great day to play Bear Slide!
The course was in great shape for November golf in Indiana!! Play was quick. Tee boxes, fairways and greens were very good as usual!
Played white tee boxes which are right at 6,000 yards. Very challenging holes into the wind!
interesting course
course knowledge important must be on the correct sides of fairways to have a playable shot to green, 17/18 right then left, make sure to play tee that gets you to 150, marks stay below hole , a challenging course but enjoyable will be back for sure
Long day!
Links style courses are fantastic as long as your rounds are not 5-6 hours long. Too many people dpending time in the heather looking for balls.
Nice course
Many hill and banker makes this course challenging. But I could enjoy very well.
Green was air ventilation timing but enough to play.
I can recommend this course well.
Back after two years
Great layout with lots of challenge. Courteous staff. My only advice is to the golfers who come here. This course can be mean if you pick the wrong tees. Put your "pride" aside and tee it forward for an even more enjoyable experience.
Great Greens
Good outdoor practice facility. On the course: Good fairways and Fast greens that were in great shape. A changing golf course, where you can score well.
Very nice course - will try to play again
Ended up with an extra day on a trip to Indy so looked around for a nice course to play. Considered a few others but this was relatively close and looked good. The weather turned a bit overnight and at the start it was pretty cool and more than a little breezy. Sun came out and layers came off on the 2nd nine. Paired up with a couple locals which really helped as there were some holes that even with my GPS and the nice guidebook on the cart it would have been tough to get good aim points. Fairways were all very good. Greens were quite fast and pretty smooth/true although a little thin - I would give that a nice. That would be really my only minor knock on the experience. Great layout, great visuals, great variety of holes, lots of elevation changes. Longer hitters should possibly play the blues but the whites were a pretty good challenge. Anyone that plays from the blacks here is a pro or crazy long. Pace of play we great. The GolfNow deal was with a cart and it would be a tough walk with some distance between green/next tee and just the elevation. All in all it was a great day of golf on a very, very, nice course. I recommend it highly and will certainly try to play it again - ideally with the same guys that I paired up with this time.
Bear Slide
The course was in excellent shape and the pace of play was very good. I would recommend this facility to all golfers.
All your own
I have played some nice courses the past few weeks in Indiana. Rock Hollow, Trophy Club and now Bear Slide. Bear Slide is definitely one of the best. One thing I really liked was how each hole feels isolated from the next so you feel like you are out there by yourself.Bear Slide is a great layout and provides quite a challenge.
My only complaints were the fair way on #2 definitely needs some TLC and the green on the par 3 #16 was in awful shape and down to dirt in areas. I would also say the tee shot from the Blue tees on hole #15 was almost unfair with how tight it was.
Friendly staff. Course was in great condition.
Course was in great condition. Very friendly staff.
Love the course design.
The course is very scenic and beautiful. The course condition is excellent. The greens are maintained very well. Got a birdie on hole 8, yay :)
The only problem I had was the pace of play by course members. The group of 4 behind us were rushing us, staring us down. Extremely rude for a course this nice :( They even hit a couple of balls within 10 feet of us several times.
Driver Fail
Played as a threesome on a hot and breezy day. The course was in pretty good shape, but both greens and tees show signs of play, which is both good and bad. Despite the wide and forgiving fairways, we struggled to find them most of the day, but when we missed the course was reasonably fair in terms of giving us an out to get back in play. Found the greens to be exceptionally fast. One of my favorite tracks in the Indy area.
One of the best in Central Indiana
The course was in great condition. Surprisingly few soggy spots given all the heavy rain recently. The quality of the turf on the tee boxes, greens, and fairways is about as good as it gets for a public course.
Fantastic
Bear Slide is an absolutely fantastic public course. I can't wait to play it again!
