Bear Slide Golf Club

I love Bear Slide. You need to have played the back nine prior to understand a couple of the holes. Tee shot placement is very important and all you need to hit it is 175 yards for a short to mid iron to the green Great condition

Neat course with a challenging but fair layout. It is easy to see how the economy has taken its toll. Fewer golfers and lower prices mean less staff and less to spend on improvements. Overall still a great value for the price.

I imagine that years ago it was a nice place. However everything about this place is dated. The buildings and clubhouse are "aged" and are in serious need of renovation. The same can be said for the course. The entire course needs some love. The cartpaths are potholed. There is a ridiculously trecherous bridge near the clubhouse. But my biggest complaint was the pace of play and total lack of marshalls or course management. Over 5 hrs to play removed any enjoyment we might have found here.

If you've never played here or only a few times. This was my 1st time-it definitely makes you think about where to place your next shot __Love it!!

Also enjoyed 1st 9 being Links style and starting on #9 transitioning into a traditional midwest golf course design!

Lots of forgiveness on most holes if your drive isn't down the middle-- and theres a couple holes where the middle of the fairway is the only place to be. Pull that 4 iron out and place in the middle, most greens are accessible in 2 (Par 4's) if you do so.

Would I play here again? YES

I couldn't wait to write this review!.... We chose Bear Slide from some locals that mentioned it, and travelled from out of state for a race weekend. We played on a scorching hot (97*) Saturday. We might have waited for less than 5 minutes on a group in front of us on a front nine par 3 but had no other hold ups, nor did we have anyone behind us on a single hole. When we came off 9 to make the turn, a ranger came up to me and pointed his finger in my face and very loudly said " I want to talk to you! 2 hours and 20 minutes is completely unacceptable. We expect you to keep up. You've been slow since the first hole!" He then berated our other cart for not adhering to a cart path sign on the 9th hole. Screaming at us!! We were the first to admit that we didn't see that particular sign and at no time did we purposely break any rule. I'm a 4 handicapper.. I've been on few courses in my life. We played in 4:40. Completely "acceptable" in my books for a scorching hot day, a course we've never played, very penalizing rough, a mixed group of handicaps (from 4 to 17) in our pairing, and pretty fast greens.

So about the course.... good course. It would be nice to have one more set of tees. Too big of a gap between 5900 and close to 6600 yards. That was long 6600 yards with the rough the course presents.

The head pro did go talk to the ranger and said it could have been handled better. TIp to ranger.... " Hey guys, it seems like you might have been just a tad slow on the time on the front, anything you guys can do to speed up, I'd appreciate. And please take special notice of all cart signs, it looks like you missed that one back there on 9. Thanks guys, have a good day, let us know if we can help". That's customer service where I come from and would have kept me coming back again. Not now. Buyer beware.

Bear Slide is a great course. Challenging but fair. The course is in great shape, except for the 16th green which they seem to struggle with perpetually. They actually installed a shower-style drain on part of the green, so if you hit it on the fly and get a large bounce, that's why.

A hot deal round here is the best value in the area. It's worth the drive from anywhere in the Indy area.

Had some friends down for the weekend got an awesome deal @33 dollars a person. Great course. The pro shop is not fitting of the #6 course in the state. Staff was friendly

Fun course . Good conditions and great pace of play. Worth the drive from downtown.

Truly enjoyed myself on this course. Fairways are forgiving, Bunkers are well maintained, greens are fast, and the sandwiches at the turn were fantastic! I'm surprised the carts don't yet have gps though for the price of a round.

I was very glad I went with people who'd played the course before and played the whites. Certainly not a long course but the dangerous spots are hidden from the tee. It helped to have someone tell you where to put that first shot. I would have easily hit 9 extra strokes if I was on my own.

This course reminds me of The Fort. Lots of variety, elevation changes and variety in the view.

Really fun course. Interesting layout. Greens were fast and rolled really true. Tee boxes in great shape and nice fairways. The staff was very friendly. My new favorite public course in Indy.

It is a good bit north of town, but worth the commute to get there. There are just a couple of holes that feel stuck in there in the design, but the other 15-16 are fantastic in design.

For some reason the aeration from the spring is still in the healing process and ever so slightly bumpy, but it is almost up to tip top shape......This course generally plays firm and fast which I enjoy and it is coming into form.

Great pace of play and peaceful location all about the golf.....You don't have to play in someone's backyard here. This is a "shotmakers" course and you have to put your ball in position and control spin to score here.

Excellent practice and warm up facilities here.....

Always a great course to play

Bear Slide may not get the public kudos more well-known top tracks in the Indy area receive - Purgatory, Prairie View and the Trophy Club to name a few, but it belongs right up there. It's a good challenge, especially with the wind up, well-maintained and has a lot of variety in its makeup, especially the back 9. As with several other area courses right now, the greens are a little firm and not holding much, but they roll well.

Anyone would do well to make the drive and play this excellent course.

Have played here numerous times over several years...... It is a great layout with the exception of about 2-3 holes that seem stuck in there that don't make sense.

It's not in horrible condition, but I've played here twice this spring and it's in the worst shape I've seen it for this time of year. By this I'm saying the greens matter much to me as a single-digit handicap. I always came here knowing they would be fast and true. They punched the greens this spring and they are still bumpy. Also, they haven't gotten to in season conditions by putting water coolers out, etc.

Don't stay away, but not at its best currently.

A destination golf course near the Indianapolis area. Open links style golf on the front with some fun challenging holes that require some strategy. Pick you tee box wisely as the course is a par 71. Back side gets a bit more challenging. The course, on this side, becomes more of a target golf course and favors the accurate iron player. Hole 11 seems to need a rework but is a fun hole if you can hit the green in regulation.

For April, the course was in very good condition.

Quality layout with some really great golf holes. Well manicured course with enough challenges for advanced players to enjoy.

It would have been Great, a 5 star for sure but they were doing some grounds work, (I know it has to be done, new irrigation and drainage and not knocking them for it... on the contrary) Watch out for the bee hive!!! It was awesome, you could hear them in the tree, freakin awesome. I bet if I played it again I'd give it 5 stars.
