The Course at Aberdeen

They routing/design of Aberdeen is excellent...always a fun play. Under new management (the dreaded Billy Casper I think) they have been making some improvements to the overall course. Some new bridges installed and a very dangerous cart path on the 16th has been roped off. They have filled in and in process of eliminating several sand traps (left fairway traps on #2 and right traps near water on #10 2nd shot observed and there could be others I didn't notice.)

Folks in the clubhouse very welcoming and post round we were asked what we thought of the course....nice touch. Before they disappear suggest you buy a Groupon twosome.....a really good deal....which includes 2 hot dogs and two domestic brewskis.

Greens were micro aerated about a week ago.....they are in fairly decent shape and pretty speedy. A few bumps and with the micro aeration the short down hillers are a tad wobbly. I'd give the course another couple of weeks of growing and the greens should be in really decent shape. A number of "new" big fringe areas around several the greens.....so a few of them are losing a bit of size. The being said I believe the greens/greensites have improved and will continue to do so.

Sand traps on this course are in need of an extreme renovation. Lots of rocks and dirt. If you're in one take a free drop. All of them need new sand and drainage.

Tee boxes....sparse and patchy. The are cut short but again need repair/renovation as many of them are far from level. They could be really really nice tee boxes leveled/re grassed. Fairways are in pretty decent shape.

Decent clubhouse, range with nice practice area no locker room or showers. You do have to schlep your gear from the car down a flight of sometimes slippery stairs to load on to a cart.

Overall at this time 3 stars plus. Recommend because of the quality of the routing/challenges and design. Once the greens recover from the aeration (well needed) pump up another 1/2 star. Was a 4.5 star course several years ago....here's hoping the Casper team doesn't screw it up even more. Definitely worth a play at least a couple of times a season.

The course conditions went to trash for a long time but with the new ownership and course maintenance team they've hired it's looking promising for the only 5 star course around me without driving an hour or more away.

not unexpected weather changes . The course wwas in great shape and many improvements noted, Cant wait to see the changes for next year, really great staff.

It was a chilly day but course was in great shape, bunkers needed a lil tending but a definate must play if in the area

Played after a heavy rain so there was not a lot of roll on the fairways. The course has a nice layout with beautiful homes surrounding it. Fairways and greens in excellent condition. Nice rolling terrain and interesting holes. Pace of play was excellent....we got our round done in 3 hours. I recommend this course especially if you can take advantage of a hot deal.

My husband and I have been playing Aberdeen for about 3 seasons now and we have watched it go from a beautiful high-end course to what I sadly now call a muni aka municipal course. We realize it's changed hands but the starter needs to do his job when out on the course. How does he let two foursomes go out before letting us tee off and then when driving the course and passing us and just waving, knowing well, that we're stuck behind 8 horrible players! It took us 3 hours to finish the front 9. When we got to hole 10, we waited 20 minutes watching the 8 bozos in front of us, spray multiple balls all over the course and out of bounds. We turned around and left. Went and played somewhere else! Course conditions were not good either.

Quit after 9,which was 3 hours long. Used to have good service and amenities but now it is no more than a run down muni.

Good golf course. . Tee boxes were a little rough but it is end of the season so to be expected

should have known for $10 and lack of cars in the lot that something was wrong The Aberdeen I remember was full of cars and people hitting balls on range waiting to tee off. There was none of that,should have known when pro shop was empty and

no one to help with bags. Course was in questionable shape as grass was burnt,greens with lots of ball marks,grass and weeds growing in the bunkers that were like concrete. The fairways on some holes had quite a bit of standing water on them and they allowed carts which made it really messy,in addition almost every cart path and bridge seemed to be broken,(the spot between 16th and 17th hole was broken and not marked,not very safe).I WILL NOT RETURN HERE. I wish all the best to

new owners and Billy Casper golf to breath some life into Aberdeen because it needs it!!!

Great place to play. We had an early more tee time so we got a good 2 or 3 holes ahead of the next group that started behind us.

Out of town on a business trip i happened upon this course. Country club attention from staff. Outstanding and challenging course layout. Unreal value. Course was a bit over watered and they DESPERATELY need a layout book for new players but I loved it. Will be making the 3 hour trip to play this course again before the end of summer.

Aberdeen is most enjoyable. Course was in very decent shape, pretty dry as of this past Friday and very playable. Putts were not too bumpy...found the course more playable with slower green speeds...during the summer the down hill putting here can be devilish and extremely quick. Interesting large green sites with some nice undulations . Aberdeen has very good variety good ups and downs with many elevated tee boxes....some short par 4's, par 3's of varying lengths and fun par 5's all of which require a shot over a ravine or water for your 2nd shot. Since it's so early in the season the sand traps were not raked yet....there are plenty of them but generally they are not maintained very well in season. The 12th hole has to be played a few times just to get the hang of it and the 16th is a really good demanding par 4 late in the round.

Folks in the clubhouse are always very nice and welcoming....and they take pride in their course. Good grass driving range with short game targets to warm up on and a very representative large practice putting green. Drop your clubs off at the bag drop....and then park unless you want to schlep them some distance from the car and then down a flight of cement (sometimes slippery) stairs to the carts. Not really a walking course as there is some distance between greens and tees....the neighborhood houses/condo's are not intrusive so for a "cart" course it's really well designed. 4.25 stars (in season usually between 4 to 4.5 depending on conditioning/pace of play) as were weren't informed in the clubhouse that there were temp flags on the 5th and 6th......(which is a-okay because these two greens need some rest/TLC as they are mainly shaded). Played in 320 and our twosome even had a two some and a three some play through us.....and I thought our two moved fairly swiftly around the course! Thanks Aberdeen we'll definitely be back again in a few months.

Very good value if you get on for $30 or under weekdays, $40 or under weekends. Always a fun fave of our group....no one complains about the extra 1/2 hour drive when all is said and done.

This is second time i played in a week and I am going again on Friday. Greens are so good and it rolls very true. Back nine seems little more challenging. Bunkers where in very good shape even after all the rain we got this week. This course is not for walking. Overall had a good round front nine 2 over and back nine 6 over.

Course is very nice. nice short cut fairways. no 2 holes cross next to each other. beautiful homes and scenery around almost every hole.

This course has gone downhill significantly over the past couple years. The bunkers are in terrible shape, I'm not sure what they're doing with the tees but the tips aren't even an option with markers and some boxes aren't even mowed. Course is pretty unsightly and I was embarrassed to have brought a friend with me who had never seen the course before. Won't be back until something changes.

While only living a few miles from Aberdeen, I somehow never managed to get out and play this gem of a golf course. Could be that since I am only playing for a few years, that I thought it would be too challenging for me. Well today I played it for the first time. It is indeed a very, very nice course that is also challenging, but not overwhelmingly so. Choose a tee box that fits your game, and enjoy the challenges that await you. From the grounds to the course itself, all is topnotch. Well kept, and well maintained are the keywords here. And all of the facilities are superb. My tee time booking came with complimentary range balls, which was a very nice touch, affording me a chance to limber up my swing and warm up a bit. One can hit as many or as few balls as one likes. The staff was very friendly, courteous, and most accommodating. I did not order any food, but the ice cold beer at the end of my round while relaxing on the patio was mighty tasty and refreshing. Pro shop also looked well stocked, if you need anything to fill your golf bag. Thank you to all at Aberdeen for making my first experience a 10 out of 10 ! ! ! Will definitely be back again more often.

They have let the course go. weeds, bunkers filled with grass and weeds, greens aerated but never rolled, bumpy and full of holes, cart paths are so bad in some areas they are hazardous. This used to be a nice track, now its an eye sore.

The putting surfaces at Aberdeen were excellent - best I've seen at this place in several years. Given all the rain recently it was amazing how well the course drained. Very nice golf course, interesting and challenging. Well maintained....just wish folks would replace/repair their divots in the fairway. Highly recommend......4.5 stars.....gave it 5 because of the surprising maintained conditions.

Greens and fairways perfect, but the bunkers:
Some had just dirt, that was not maintained at all.
They are working on them as some have new sand delivered awaiting installation.

They also have weeds (not heavy grass, but weeds) around the edges of these bunkers. You can hit a ball there and not find it. Need some work there, please.

We played the bunkers with the knowledge that they were bad, and we improved our lies in the ones we could play. Just make this a local agreement among your group and go enjoy this course.

Tip: Watch the hidden water on the right side of #3. The hole lines sets up for you to hit it over there, and if you go too far right, the ball will run into the water.
