This course had issues
The Aerification of the greens, which made it impossible to putt. I understand that it is necessary to do this but the holes were so large, unlike any I have ever seen before.
Great Golf Experience
We got off ahead of our tee time. The fairways and greens were in great shape. No delay during the round. The setting has natural beauty with wild life (saw a deer, a wild turkey, a hawk, and hundreds of squirrels. Out of the last 5 courses played, this was by far the best overall experience.
Nice....but...
A scorecard with the hole layout would be handy. Friendly staff and the course was in pretty good shape. Many of the sand traps were full of water. More yardage markers needed. Otherwise, it is an interesting course with some unique holes. You at times seem isolated, but on many holes you feel like you are playing through the middle of a subdivision.
Tough, Remote, and Very Slow
Aberdeen is in good condition. The fairways, tees and greens are very nice. The rough isn't a factor, but some of the holes have long carries with hidden ravines and some holes were cart path only.
On the second hole right in the middle of our fairway was
a reincarnation of Carl Spackler. This grounds keeper stood
poking the ground in the middle of the fairway while we were
trying to tee off. After a few minutes of this I asked him what he was doing. He said that he was looking for the 150 yard marker hole oblivious of us. Later he kept following us with his noisy maintenance cart.
There is no starter and no Marshall on this course. They do not allow carts in the parking lot. You have to wait for the bag man to come and take your clubs down stairs to your cart. This
is a big time delay. There's only one bag man.
After the fourth hole we ran into a group of female foursomes
who claimed to be a ladies league. The pace of play slowed to
a crawl.
What could have been an enjoyable round of golf was ruined by
these inept players who never asked if we wanted to play through as we waited ten minutes on every shot.
This is a hilly albeit scenic course which requires long carries over valleys and dales.
The 150 yard pole is frequently way off for distance and should not be relied on.
This course could clean up it's act by using a good timer/starter and a roaming Marshall.
A wet day, but a good one!!!
The 3+ inches of rain the night before made the course very long and challenging. The crew, however, has done a great job in keeping it playable, even as wet as it was.
Beautiful solitary course
I love a golf course where the hole you are on is the only hole you see. Most of the holes at Aberdeen are exactly like that. Some very nice elevation changes, challenging layout with a few blind shots and a few uneven tee boxes (my only negatives and reasons for not giving 5 stars ) and every hole is different. Mostly wooded with a few homes beside but not right on the fairway. I live in the western suburbs of Chicago but travel to Indiana several times a year to play this course. If you like a challenging and beautiful course, I highly recommend Aberdeen.
Really a nice course and in great condition
The course is great. It is over watered and mushy in a few spots but we just took a free drop at the couple places where that occurred. The brush in front of the tee boxes is also in need of cutting down. If it was in the way we moved to a different spot on the tee. All in all a very nice place to play.
Great play...especially for price :)
This course has wonderfully laid out holes...challenging, but not overly so. Aside from the first two holes that run parallel to each other, the holes are independently located, which I like. There are elevation changes, water and sand. You cannot beat the price for what you get here...have paid more for golf at lesser courses. This is a must play in my book.
I loved this course, everything was perfect except the course being soggy on some holes due to heavy rain the previous night!
Loved this course! The course is beautiful and well maintained and look forward to going back when it isn't so wet. I would definitely recommend this course to any serious golfer, who needs to be challenged and made to feel at home by the staff!
A good course, but not quite worth the time.
I have been to this course twice now. The first time I went, I was stuck behind a high school golf outing and it took me about 5 hours to golf 18 holes with a foursome. The second time out, I was stuck behind a threesome that would not let my twosome pass and the threesome behind us kept hitting into us.
Overall, the course is challenging and well maintained, however, the excessive time it took to play in addition to the poor golf etiquette displayed by the fellow golfers will prevent me from playing this course again.
Please put some yardage markers up
Great course, fun layout, green greens, great fairways. For $29 with a cart (golf now deal) cant be beat.
A little frustrating to club with no course map on the scorecard and little to no markers on the tees or fairways. I understand that they had GPS in the carts before but removed them - course needs to be updated to accomodate that change.
Overall had a great time on a nice course.
Outstanding
Tough but fair and a great value. The staff was helpful and cheerful.
Excellent course in great shape.
Aberdeen is one of the premier tracks in NW Indiana. For the price we paid on golfnow, it was a bargain.
Nice course on the overall.
Seemed short handed on staff the day I played. I understand the weather wasn't the best and it is early in the year
Great Value
Course cost as much as many that were not as well maintained. Pretty difficult course, but very fun to play.
I will be back next year when they reopen
course was closing for the winter-don't know why
Had just been aereated, but still in good shape
I guess all the older, slower players were getting in 1 last round, 4.75 hrs to play 14 holes
Hilly wooded secret hidden in east Valpo.
Coarse winds through wooded valleys in what is normally a flat farming area of northern Indiana. Nice variety of holes with hazards looming everywhere.....Some forced carries, but overall a very fair design....Not many holes that give you room to spray it around....Usually gives you one side to miss from....Worth the drive to play at least once...
Biggest bang for the buck in Chicagoland
Using HotDeals this is the biggest bang for the buck in the Chicagoland area. This course is used by Valpo University as their practice course. Elevation changes, speedy greens and undulating fairways are typical. Several of the holes have forced carries so be prepared to bring some extra balls if you can't hit it over 200 yards. A very strategic course with some local knowledge is necessary if you play for the first time. It's easy for some of the holes to get in your head when you look a the approach but overall it's a fair course and definitely one of the best bargains in the area
Best Value in Indiana
This course offers the best value for the money. Always well manicured tee to green.
