Decent course for the money
At $20 for 18 with a cart my expectations are virtually nil, so this course is a decent surprise. Course was playable, but far from a well-managed condition. The fairways are bentgrass, but not well groomed and moderately overtaken with crabgrass, weeds, and other non-desireables. The rough is almost the same length as the fairways but appeared to be a more typical Johnson County mix of fescue and bluegrass. Greens were well cut and nicely maintained. Course is a good mix of elevation changes, blind doglegs, and from the tips was fairly challenging. Cart path is rough gravel and broken unmaintained asphalt in lots of places. Would be a good course to walk due to it's short 6200 yard length. Also saves you another $5 by walking. All in all it's not a destination course, but for the money, it didn't feel like a waste either. Definitely will play there again when I feel like just getting out and knocking the ball around.
Good course to work on your game
Good course to work on your game, staff is friendly although pace of play on the front nine was very slow. Overall course was in good condition although if you were not in the fairway finding your ball in the ground cover that was growing was not easy. Good place to go play with family or friends.
not a bad deal for golfnow.com prices
golfnow.com provided a very good deal on price for this golf course. normal prices for a round of 18 is about 30$ which is a little steep for the kind of condition the course is in. I would have no problem paying 30$ if the course was in much nicer shape. overall it was a pleasant experience with moderate challenge to my golf game.
Basic, no-frills municipal course
What can I say? You get what you pay for, right? Yes, it's true at Gardner Golf Course. I didn't pay much, so I shouldn't complain, but this course is really rough. Poor layout, lots of blind shots, trees in places they really shouldn't be, fairways not great, cart paths are largely gravel, etc. Actually, the greens are pretty nice and the staff friendly. Good place for beginners to duff around or for families wanting to avoid the snooty golf crowd.
Nice local course
Great course for the money, not a resort course but a good course with a good variety of challenges. A very casual environment .
Awesome course for the price!
Took my wife there to play on our Anniversary. Had a great time fairways and greens in great shape considering the drought. The greens are very fast and pin placements were very challenging at times. Group ahead of us hit a hole in one on a blind shot par 4 we took there picture for them and reminded them that it is tradition to buy drinks and that we would meet them after our round for some but they took off!!!!
This course needs a lot of attention
I was disappointed with this course. The fairways are extremely rough and in some areas there is actual gravel. The cart paths are pathetic and 40% of the cart paths are gravel / dirt. I will not be back. On Golfnow I could have booked a tee time at the same time on the same day at Deer Creek in Leawood for $1 cheaper.
Good layout .
Great course. Has easy to challenging hole layouts. Power shots not always your friend. Very enjoyable . Played in under 4.5 hours even when letting a couple singles play thru. Greens put true and no variance from green to green as far as speed.
Good for the cost
The course is not a highly maintained course, but for the cost it is a nice little course to play and play quickly.
A great value.
I play at least once every couple of weeks and the course seems to be in better shape each time I go out.
Great value for the money
With just a little more attention this course could be a great place to have an outing. For the price I enjoyed my self and the staff was excellent.. I will play this course again..
Thanks
Good value
Fairways and rough were a little shaggy, greens were also shaggy and not in the best shape. Greens have dimples all over so it's impossible to have a consistent put which gets frustrating. Overall though its cheap so that's what I expected.
Had a great time!
Got to play the back nine for the 1st time and really enjoyed it! Course was maintained great!
JT
hole 10 is very challenging
The course overall needs some work , but you can see they are in the process of doing that. The greens are good and fairways don't get caught in the ruff, the staff was friendly and players let you play through. The cart path are mostly rock. But overall I would play again nice course .
This is a course with an excellent layout that unfortunately is not maintained as it should be.
The grounds need serious attention at this course. The gravel cart paths are unusal for the area but kind of a neat quirk. My issue is the grass. This is the first time I have ever lost a ball in the fairway. My friends and I hit many balls in play that were simply impossible to locate due to the grass which is over the ankles in the "fringe" and just completely neglected elsewhere. the greens were basically sand packed. This course has beautiful landscape and layout it is just sadly poorly maintained. The staff is very friendly. I hope they get it together because this course could be one of the hidden gems in the area if maintained.
Needs work
Front nine was closed, so we looped the back twice. Course still in rough condition, and the cart path is a mix of broken asphault, large rocks, and gravel making for a pretty bumpy ride (beer everywhere).
Nice people, low cost, I had fun!
The people at the course were very nice, both the staff and others playing. My only real complaint is that there were no signs indicating which hole is which. I'm sure if you play there more than a few times, it isnt't an issue. But signs help a player new to the course. Also, note that the first hole is next to the driving range. If your ball goes far right on the drive, you might as well hit again. You'll never find your ball among those on the range. Otherwise, I had a great afternoon on the course. Good value. Thanks!
good
Course is fun to play. Good way to kill a morning before football games come on or good way to unwind from work.
