Fairways are badly damaged--needs attention.
The owner/operator of this course died a year or so ago. The heir evidently lost his interest in bankruptcy. It was purchased by a higher-end course there in Georgetown and they are slowly making improvements. Presently, the fairways are badly burned, but the rough is neatly mowed. The greens are fast, but have some damage, while the tees are hard. Distances are marked only on the cart paths. The prices are high for the condition of the course. Food and beverage service seem to be nearly nonexistent.
Course needs some TLC.
Tee time @ 7:00 but staff didn't show until 7:20. Staff didn't even apologize. Crabgrass was everywhere!
playable course with some forced carriers on the back side.
The day we went I took my seventeen hear old son for a day of father son golf, bonding. We had a seven thirty tee time and someone finally showed up around seven twenty . As we proceeded to play the front nine, we were asked to skip the sixth hole, as the were having irrigation problems around the green and the sprinklers were stuck on. As we started the back nine, a grounds person showed up on the tenth tee box and asked us how long it would take us, as he had water on on the backside and he wanted to turn it off before we arrived. We proceeded to play ten, then eleven a par five. As we come upon the eleventh green, we notice water on and the green flooded with water standing. We skip that green and try to play twelve, only for the same problem. Aggrivated, we go to the clubhouse to ask for rain checks only to be greeted by rudeness. I've played here before, spent money at the range, not again..... Only time I've ever encountered such rudeness. I told my son to keep his rain check and I gave mine back, as at that point I really didn't care to come back. Good luck at Longview....
Nice layout. Could be in better shape.
Overall not bad for the money. Would play again if opportunity arose.
Fun little track
They have some neat hole layouts here but the fairways could use some attention. Greens looked like they were beat up but rolled great and were sneaky fast. All in all a fun course to play and not to bad on the wallet.
Good Value
The first nine holes...not bad. The back nine gets really challenging. If you don't like to hit over water, this is not the course for you.
Good course.
My son, my nephew and I played for $54. This included 2 carts. You just cannot beat that price. The front nine is run of the mill. The back nine is much better. The lake holes are very fun. We will definitely go back.
Course is in good shape
Not a busy day at the course. Was freshly mowed and in great shape. Drove 45 mins to play here, because of the price and the shape of the course.
Friendly, fun, and well mantained public course
I read a few reviews that stated the conditions here have been rough. But whatever problem they may have been having, is no longer an issue. The course was very green, lush and healthy. Nicely mowed defined fairways and the rough was down and definitely playable. A couple tee boxes were rough and the bunkers could use some more regular maintenance. But overall the course is in really good shape. The new ownership also owns an upscale public course across town that receives many accolades. In my eyes, that's a great sign for Longview. It will hopefully only get better. At the turn they had hotdogs, bbq sandwiches, and bratwursts; all fine and sufficient for a public course. I was told that the cook had left and that's why the "full service" restaurant was closed at the time. Doesn't hurt to ask questions, because most of the time the answers you get make sense. If this course was as brutal as some have stated a few weeks ago; BRAVO to the greens crew and their Super because it turned around quickly. I'd like to see them finish the clubhouse/patio. I believe the old owners were in the middle of a remodel and there's some spots without siding. Bit of an eye sore now but could be wonderful overlooking the 18th hole. They could have an excellent grass tee range as well. Just needs some yardage signs or flags. I cant wait to return to see the progress!
Stay on the fairway!
The course was in good shape when I played, the rough included. However, the rough was so thick that it swallowed any thing that touched it.
I lost 12 balls, that's right, TWELVE balls when I played Longview. 3 were certainly my fault (2 in the drink and 1 in the woods) but the other 9 were no more than 20 feet off the fairway but it was just nearly impossible to find anything in that rough.
Losing balls besides, the course was fun, was in good shape and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Would play the course again.
A good, challanging course
Plays well, with a tough couple of water holes for a moderate golfer.
Not Worth Even the Cheap Price
Let me start off by saying this course was AWFUL. I've never played at a worse kept course. The tee boxes were all overgrown. If you hit your ball 5 yards off the fairway, its not even worth looking for your ball. I have never seen so many dandelions in all my life, plus the "short rough" completely engulfs any ball that even rolls into it. The clubhouse didn't open up the concessions, so our choice for food at the turn was a Snickers or a bag of Fritos. I will never play here again.
Good layout struggling to maintain condition fitting the course.
Longview has made some good strides in the last year. The fairways are growing in, and the staff/ownership is trying. Signs of neglect are everywhere, unfortunately. Tee boxes without a good lie...cart paths unpatched, bare areas in fairways, unmown rough areas...The cafe/snack bar staff is very good, the front desk "pro" was preoccupied and did not acknowledge our presence when we went in for a snack at the turn...We were told there was a shortage of willing workers, even though they were trying to hire..I can sure believe that!!...I did see an active mower, but he was cutting an area that does not come into play, when his time would have been much better put to use in some of the over grown rough areas. The greens were pretty good. They will hold a shot, and they putted true. I love this course design, and hope they bring it up to a much higher standard. I will be happy to play there again and see what progress they are making, as the layout is so good...
Tees in bad condition and overall needs manicuring
We were in town from Chicago and looking to play an early morning round. I found the course on Golf Now and the price seemed reasonable with a decent tee time. Before booking, I checked out the website to see what I was getting into and everything seemed to be great. From the looks of the website it was a beautiful course, so we decided to play. Upon arrival there were 5 cars in the lot (should have been a clue). We walked into the clubhouse (a doublewide with siding falling off) and paid our $32 ea for 18 + Cart. As we pulled up to a tee box (assuming it to be the 1st tee) it was no more than a dirt mound with a few small patches of "grass" . There was no indicator that this was the 1st tee box so we drove back to the clubhouse and asked where 1 tee was. He pointed me to the dirt mound we were at. I exclaimed that it was in terrible shape, his response..."the bermuda grass is a little rough right now". This was the closest I have come to getting back in the car. The course overall had some nice holes, but the manicuring was AWFUL. If this was kept up, it would be a decent little course (as long as the price didnt increase with it).
Course was great !
Played in February, with a great group of friends. We found the course in good shape, well taken care of and a friendly staff willing to take care of our needs. Will definitely be back throughout the year.
A course for the liesurely player.
The course is well balanced with 10 par-4's, 4 par-5's and 4's par-3's. The water hazzards are placed strategically and the fairways are exceptional. No surprises on this course and the staff is very friendly. Their is a driving range however there were no distance markers, but also a very nice practice green for putting. I would recommend this course to any and all who fancy a relaxing game.
NEEDS ATTENTION
Looking at the pictures on the web shows these white sand bunkers and pristine fairways, what I found was a rude guy at the desk when we checked in and none they need better tee markers on the course could never find so just kinda pick your own spot. got stuck behind a foresome that honestly kept us out there an hour longer than we should have finally had to just give up a hole to get around, I did not enjoy this choice.
Good But Under Maintenance
I have played this course several times this summer. Holes 5-8 are currently under repair due to reseeding. Otherwise, it is definitely a bang-for-your-buck course. However, it is vitally important you keep your drives and approaches accurate. Most fairways are closely tree-lined so if you stray from the fairways, you will be punished. Going long or left/right of the greens can end in high scores due to slopes and obstacles around many of the greens.
Once this course is fully repaired (holes 5-8), it will be even better but still a good challenge.
Course needs to be closed until it is repaired
My wife and I played or tried to play. The fairways were worse than a dirt track at a race car convention. A fertilizer truck started spread fertilizer and the wind covered everything we owned.
