Fun track
This was a fun course. We played the front 9 twice as we were playing really fast on a hot day and caught the group at the turn. The first time around was a challenge as we didn’t really know where we were going. You don’t really see the hole from the tee so there is plenty of trouble to get into. The GPS was a little wonky which didn’t make it any easier. But playing it the second time around, we knew what to do and what to avoid. I’m sure the back 9 is just as fun. I will definitely try to come back if I’m ever in the area again with my clubs. Staff was great and very helpful. The greens were in good shape but slower than I prefer. Lots of roll out on the firm fairways.
The course looks good
I went after 3 hard days of rain. It was muddy on the back 9 which it was to be expected. Greens were great the fairways were rough it felt like we was getting punished the ball would be either to high above your feet or to low. I went with a buddy and we prefer playing from the roughs on this course. I prefer more open places were if you slice the ball you won’t hit a home but I managed just fine. The staff and equipment was great.
Very average
Course conditions where rough. Greens okay. Pace of play slow
Fun course, great staff!
The course played well, rough was a little overgrown. Staff was super friendly and the club house restaurant is great. Best hotdog I’ve had in a long time.
Thoroughbred at High Point
Course is in the short side even from the tips, but course has some nice views with a few blind shots. Greens ran true and consistent. Was in very good shape for early in the season in Ky. Great value for the money
Review
Not a bad layout but conditions could be much better. Lots of side hill lies and card yardages are off on some holes.
Staff was great
Staff was amazing highly recommended the Bar inside course was still not perfect yet but overall a great experience will definitely go back!
New Ownership & Management Bring Nice Changes
If you haven't played here in a year or two you might be surprised at the changes. The course is now managed by Man O War Golf in Lexington under former High Point in-house pro Matthew McCrady.
Starting with landscaping upgrades that included short wooden fencing around the parking lot and clubhouse, they have since built a new cart barn, expanded the bar/restaurant, and most recently added new comfy Club Car carts with GPS and Bluetooth.
The course is still in need of extensive cart path repair (thus 4 stars for course conditions) of which they are aware and have plans to rectify in the near future.
All that said, Thoroughbred's greens remain some of the best maintained in the area, the fairways are blazingly fast this time of year and the staff are super friendly. A fun place to play.
Golf now and course staff terrible
The staff at the course was unwilling to accommodate me after not “having any carts” and said to call golf now. Golf now told me to talk to the course. It’s a goat ranch anyway, don’t play it.
Fun Course
For a first time play, it was most pleasant. I'll be back. Some really pretty holes. Nice mix of residential and nature views. Greens were slick and challenging - very few ballmarks. Greens still made some of the shorter holes a test. Nice to play a few par 4's that required strategy off the tee - not just step up with your driver and bang away. Fairways well kept. At 75, played mid tees. Rough around the greens was long and exacted a price. Each hole marker displayed an etched photo of a horse with narrative. Really nice touch. Pretty, quiet out of the way location just 8 minutes outside Nicholasville.
Thoroughbred
Nice course in excellent condition lots of elevation changes. Pure greens, short course from the whites. I highly recommend.
Local Favorite Course
We played early so the dew was thick. The course was in great shape but the t boxes had high grass. I think they were mowing as we were playing so no big deal just had to use tall tees.
Greens were wonderful and we didn’t have any issues with any other players or the cart. What more can you ask for?
