National Golf Club

Many fairways were just a little shaggy. The greens were in decent shape but a bit slow due to not being cut very short. The rough wasn't very tall but with all the storms we've had, they were lush and 'grabby'. The Heat Index was 95-96 so we barely saw anyone else on the course for the entire round, when we left at 4pm they said they only had 6 carts out on the course (on a Friday afternoon).

Havent golfed here in a couple years, but enjoyed coming back. Great pace for a weekend round (3.5 hours)

It is a great layout with elevations and design.

I really liked it.

Fairways - were in worst condition.

There is weed all over the way and it was no

more than a low cut rough with all kinds of

plants or whatever you can call.

Greens - again the Slowest on the Planet! The grass seemed never cut or not maintained. Honestly my home carpet would roll much faster. It was so bad. There was no roll whatsoever. If you hit a high approaching shot it will not

roll at all. Some long putts you have hammer and even then you end up well short.

Pace of play - was probably good to okay, however not many were playing. It was literally empty from Noon Tee times onwards. So can’t say much about the pace.

That’s pretty much it.

If you like these conditions you can go and have fun.

PS: I was a first timer on this course.

For $70 the conditions were pretty rough, nearly east Potomac level. We played on a Sunday afternoon at the pace of play was great, we finished in under 4 hours. Also the club made me get a refund credit from golf now, then made me pay them the course fee. Only problem is that the credit only goes to my account and not my credit card so I essentially paid twice. Wouldn’t return.

For a “country/golf club” this place was rough. The practice area is in really tough shape. Driving range was fine. Now when it comes to the course… tee boxes were abysmal. Basically like hitting out of the rough it was so long. Fairways were okay nothing special but not terrible. I will say the one redeeming quality about the course were the greens. They were kept well and rolled just fine. The course design was not my favorite to say the least. Some really silly holes that ask you to shape the ball on just about every tee shot or be forced to hitting an iron off the tee and have a long long ways in. If all you care about are greens this place is just fine. But I’d have to think you can find much better in the DC area.

The course conditions are not worth the price tag. The course layout is fun, but there are not many amenities

The course was not in good condition. Tees were bad and greens very slow. Worst was the pace of play. Very slow.

This course needs some ownership who will put some money into proper maintenance. After the round a few members told me it used to be a beautiful course. They also mentioned there is no course superintendent. It’s easy to see the potential, but is currently nowhere near where it should be.

The only saving grace was the friendliness of the staff and the members. It is apparent that the owner has no idea how to manage or run a golf course because the staff onsite were doing the best given the circumstances. 1st thing is there were no golf carts left after charging a nonrefundable cart fee for everyone in my threesome. Ended up walking which is no big deal. The problem comes when members with a tee time an hour before mine were permitted to wait for cart availability were able to hop on the tee block and effectively back up all the scheduled tee times. At my time there were 3 groups waiting because members were permitted to take priority even though they elected to miss their times more than an hour prior.

The conditions on the course were absolutely horrendous. Tee blocks, if you could call them that, were majority dirt. There were no distinctions between fairway, first cut, or rough. It was grass roots and dirt all around. I’ve seen greens in worse condition but were probably a 2 out 5 overall.

My group decided it wasn’t even worth continuing to play after the first 9.

With all that being said, the staff was very courteous and hospitable. I think they were just dealt a soup sandwich by the way they are directed to manage.

Bonus is the driving range is free…that is if there are any balls left to grab.

Nice people, rough couse. Hopefully better with summer

Was expecting nicer, but had fun. Cart about died on 14, limped back. Good enuf.
