Links at Challedon

I have always enjoyed playing here and it’s great to see that the course is in such great condition. Brought a friend along and he thoroughly enjoyed his round.

Tee boxes were not consistently placed, yardages on the card did not match. Maybe the season?

Overall though, the fairways were smooth and afforded good bounces. They drain well and are clearly well maintained. The rough is kept in check and very few bald spots, only a few around the greens.

Speaking of the greens, rolled fast and true as many have said!

Pace of play? We started at 1pm and finished at 420, without any pressure behind and no issues ahead.

If you want a pristine golf course go join one of the expensive country clubs. If you really want to have fun do yourself a favor and go play Challedon. The course is in nice shape. The layout is fun and the staff is helpful and friendly. The course is challenging for all skill levels and the pace of play is better than most courses in the area.

I have played most courses within a 50 mile radius of DC and this has to be top 3 if not the best. Conditions were great, great balance of toughness on the course, greens in great shape. I recommend at least one round here to try it out!

Good course but they overbooked and inserted a group of walkers in front of us. Greens and tee boxes were in excellent condition minus a few holes. The entire round took over five hours, will probably go back and play again.

I shot a 73 with a triple bogey on the first hole and I owe it all to the true roll of the greens.

The course was in great shape and the greens were a touch slow, but rolled straight and even.

Beware, the owner and GM post positive reviews with regularity. They also encourage their employees to also post positive, glowing reviews.

Example: ownership pushes the crab cakes weekly in their reviews.

Greens are super slow May-October,silver weeds on most of tee boxes that are a mix of bentgrass and zoysia.

This golf course is average and over priced. Once the Covid-19 days are behind us, they will be dropping their green fees $10-$15 to where they belong.

Maybe all golf course personnel behave this way regarding reviews. But please know that this group at Challedon does in fact toot their own horn to build their positivity rating.

The course itself was in pretty great condition and i was amazed by the pace of play (we were third ones off in the morning, in a twosome each with individual carts) and finished in 2 hours and 45 minutes. This was not my usual experience at Challedon, where a 5 hour round was much more the norm. I got the sense they were only sending out twosomes in order to preserve carts during the pandemic.

The course had been doused with fertilizer so there was a pervasive smell throughout the round and the greens were sandy and left an aquamarine residue on the ball from the fertilizer. I'm guessing they don't do that everyday so I just got unlucky with the day I chose to play, but it still did take away from the experience.

$8 for a small bucket of warm up balls was excessive and added to the cost of an already pricey round.

All in all, I'd go back again, particularly if I can get out early and make sure the pace of play is fast.

Played the course the other day for the first time and thought it was great, also the food after the round was good

The Links at Challedon, is no Links Course, but sure lays out like one! No parallel fairways, no guys hitting into you, and it’s in great shape!

Fun, fair, good pace and staff.

One of my go to Courses, highly recommend. Gets better and better!

Hadn’t played Challedon for a year or so, and really saw a great upgrade. Course was in great shape, people friendly, pace great, and food after was awesome!!

Will be back. Excellent value.

I played this course on 8/8. This course is in horrible shape. The greens are nearly unputtable due to poor aeration fill, ballmarks and weeds growing on the greens. These are the slowest and worst greens in the area. There are weeds growing in the fairways and fringe. They are also not taking COVID seriously as there are no noodles in the holes and there are still rakes on the course.

Do yourself a favor and play somewhere else. Every public MC golf course that I have played recently puts this course to shame. For example, I played Little Bennett today and it the fairways and greens were 1000% better than Challedon. Consider any reviews talking about how good a shape this course is in as fake news. They need to drop their rates and hire a new greenskeeper.

Have been playing Challedon for years. The service is top-notch and the course is always in good shape. I would recommend this course to anyone.

I played with my family yesterday and was very happy with my experience at Challedon. I'm relatively new to the game but felt very confident on most holes. The staff was very friendly and the patio is a lovely place to relax and eat after your round. I highly recommend you visit!

The course is in the best condition I’ve ever seen it in!! The staff is super helpful and friendly, and the crab cakes are definitely the best in Mount Airy!!!! Highly recommend visiting Challedon!
