Glade Valley Golf Club
About
Nestled in the foothills of the Catoctin Mountains about 15 minutes from Fredricksburg, Glade Valley Golf Club has been selected as a top-100 golf course in the Mid-Atlantic region by Washington Golf Monthly. The Jim Reck design, which opened in 1990, has a nice mix of woods, water, natural habitat and sand traps that will test golfers, but the golf course isn't overly difficult.

Close at 7pm on a Sunday
On September 10th, at 6:57pm, I was on the 16th hole and a staff member drove by to tell us the course closes at 7pm and the cart was due back. I've played here many times before and this never happened until now.
This was after I wasn't able to buy anything at the clubhouse during the turn at around 5pm. Started my round at 3:20pm. They were happy to take my money -- just didn't care enough to stick around, I guess.
It was still clear out and the sunset was 7:30pm, which means it could easily have stayed playable until close to 8pm.
I don't understand. Does the staff not understand that folks like to finish their round? Perhaps they could have tried to speed up the slow groups in front of me to help things along? Maybe they had somewhere better to be? If you work at a golf course -- go ahead and assume people are going to play until dark on a beautiful September day.
We hurried to finish our round -- which contributed to some sloppy play and ruined a good score. The cart got back at 7:15pm and I didn't care if they gave me trouble. Unacceptable behavior for a golf course.
Surprised
Had not played the course in twenty years so it has changed for the better.
Asked to skip a hole
We were paired with a man and woman couple we didn't know. Although they were very nice, their pace of play was very slow. We didn't hear a word about pace of play until the 14th at which time we were asked to skip a hole so the groups behind us wouldn't have to wait. I paid my greens fees just like everyone else and did not ask to be paired with the couple causing the delay why should I be penalized? Not sure I'll ever be back
Great Value in Walkersville
Golfer-friendly course and nice people. Not fancy and carts are a bit dated, but in good condition except for places where your ball shouldn't be anyway. Snack bar is kind of basic. Sometimes can smell fertilizer from surrounding farms. Rates are comparatively low and Golfnow rates can be a steal!!
Great course; often packed to the brim
Glade Valley is a terrific course for the money; an absolutely excellent value. Therein lies the problem, as the course is often packed with others taking advantage of the value. This results in pace of play issues, which we've experienced everytime we come play at GV. Staff has always been friendly and professional. Wish there was a ranger out on the weekends to help resolve pace of play. It is needed.
Good Value
A good course with something for all levels. The staff was very pleasant. The course was in good shape. It is a good deal for the money.
Simple yet challenging holes
Layout of the course seems simple and easy yet it does have some challenging holes. Folks at Grade Valley are very friendly and personal. Conditions at the course is good and staff does pretty good job of maintains it. The course offers exceptional value for the money. Not bad at all.
We played late morning, the course was packed so the pace of play (over 5 hrs.) was slower than use to but not horrible. Overall though good experience.
One of My Faves (*_*)
Played course 2X now. LoVE everything about the course!! From employees inside to those outside "Great job providing friendly and courteous service"! I came to the course as a single-GolfNow-and had a great time. Pretty straightforward course. Beautiful views.
Great value in the spring and early summer
Right now it is still green and playing well. Late in the summer it tends to dry out and the rough butns out.
good course with fast play
the course was fairly empty when I started and I played quickly with several twosomes letting me play thru. I did not catch up to anyone until number 15 and played the round in 2:15.
Great value for the price.
Course was in great shape. Greens were excellent. This is one of the best courses in Frederick county that you can play for lest than $35.00.
Hidden Gem
I had never played this course before and was concerned about some of the reviews, but what a pleasant surprise. The course was in excellent condition, the greens were challenging and true, and the pace of play was good ( just over 3 hours on a Monday afternoon).
This is not a difficult course and the amenities are sparse, but a very good value for the money. I also recommend this course for those who like to walk. It is very flat and no long trips from green to the next tee.
Glade Valley
Greens were in nice shape. $30 bucks on a weekend is great. Fairways were ok. We will definitely go back.
