Beautiful and Challenging Course
Although this was my first opportunity to play here, I was fortunate to be paired with a 'walker' who typically plays this course. His advice saved me many strokes that could otherwise been lost to surprising turns/elevations on the course. Beautiful, relaxing, course with some very interesting terrain features -- nothing impossible; just required some caution and course management.
Great shape
The conditions are the best you can find other than granite links closest to Boston on the south shore. The people are very nice and a ranger drives around to make sure the pace of play is up to speed. A challenging enough course but not too tough make for. Great combination.
Fast greens, nice shape after a rainy weekend
There are still a few soggy spots on the fairways but over all the course is in great shape and the greens were mostly smooth and faster then I expected
SSCC is very good
The course design is old school, challenging and fun to play, been playing here for 30 years, and conditions are better than ever.
Go today.
Birthday Treat
My husband treated me to SSCC on Friday. It was an excellent course. Fast greens, well maintained, and very friendly people. Downside - we got stuck behind four slow gentlemen, who did not quicken their pace, even though they had three groups behind. Manager tried to hurry them along though.
old and tired
this course is run down what you might expect from a public course. they said they spent a million dollars over the winter I'd like to know who took the money.
I wish I lives in Hingham
Great course with a fun, challenging, and fair layout. It was in excellent shape for late April. I just wish I lived in Hingham and could become a member to play there more often. I'm looking forward to going back again soon.
nice place great shape even though the greens were punched someone did a great job of getting them to roll well
great shape even though the greens were punched someone did a great job of getting them to roll well
this is a gem of a course with four or five great holes and the fairways are delightful i paid 32 buck to walk
beautiful rolling course with elevation changes and well placed hazards
I thoroughly enjoyed playing this course. The design kept things interesting, without resorting to anything stupidly hard and frustrating.
Too bad it rained
Otherwise it was a pretty nice course. Nice and wide fairways, but very hilly so you were shooting blind a lot of the time. Probably a very good course for regulars. There weren't any maps on the course so that made things worse.
Hills and unjulating greens a challenge.
South Shore CC. is a great public course with lots of ups and downs....raised greens with trouble all over if long or off to one side or the other. There are a few narrow fairways to hit on long par 4's and where it is open the fairways lean off to one side making it a challenge to keep it on the short hairs. The greens where airated and in good shape. The putts rolled on line with little jumping, which was nice. The greens have suttle turns and twist which can make it fun. IF in the area, definately play this course.... I've been playing it for over 10 yrs. and its in good shape. This course will allow you to score if hitting it well and chew you up if not...... Play on...
Super slow greens and repetitive holes (9/28)
Note that the round was played on Sept 28 and in noting the pace of play comment, I teed off at 1:30pm --
The greens look like they had been airated two weeks prior and do not appear to have been mowed since. Hole number two was shortened greatly in that from the tee (all tees were put together), which is off of a driving range matt, is 260 yds to the center (I used my rangefinder).
The first four holes of each nine basically mirror each other by length and contour.
I would not pay full price to play this course in its current condition, or even anything close to it for that matter.
Friendly place
Very satisfying old-style course with lots of elevation changes. Good conditions, helpful staff and cordial golfers made for a very pleasant afternoon.
Good " old style " golf course.
Played yesterday and the conditions were very good. The course maintenance crew was replacing a green side bunker....nice to see them continuing to improve this course.
Course was great!
Enjoyed playing, only problems were a mat on a temporary tee and construction around one of the greens. Lots of hills & hazards and plenty of distance although the "short" holes were most difficult if off target.
Great course
Great course just no maps around course to tell the hole location meaning dog leg right or left or straight , watch out for sand traps many rocks in them
First Timer at the Course
This was my first time at Southshore Country Club. I was looking for a place to bring my dad and always like testing out new courses. The course was in really good shape and held up well during the downpour we slogged through for a few holes. SSCC offers some challenging holes but overall not too difficult a course. For the price and a half hour from Boston, it is a nice course and I will definitely play again. My only complaint is no course layout on the scorecards and as a first timer, we had some blind shots and a little unsure of where to hit.
A treat
South Shore always seems to get better. The rain has made the rough, very tough..so hitting the fairways becomes necessary. The greens have become more difficult due to the work of the club, so getting close to the pin is important to score low. Pace of play has also improved. Overall a very good public course!
