Very hilly
Not a level lie on the course except for the 14th hole! Course in good shape esp since the temps were in the 90s. Most greens elevated from the fairways. Greens somewhat slow, but true.
South Shore CC
We found a tee time the day of for $30.00. That is steal for this course. My friend was late due to road construction and they moved us to a later time with no hassle. If you have not played the course take a cart the first time. Very hilly. The greens are elevated and you can not be short or you are going to be at bottom of the hill trying to flop back up off a tight lie. Hit and extra club into them and you'll be happier. There is very little water but trees and fescue come into play if you miss left or right. The tee boxes and fairways and greens are well taken care of. Non golf areas are worn. We had a great day!
Nice Challenge
Challenging, nice, naturally hilly layout that will test all of your shot making abilities. Few flat lies and stay away from the rough. Hit it where you want it and you can do well. You will know you played golf at the end of the round.
course was in great shape, staff great!
The greens were just cut @ rolled. Donald Ross layout with elevated greens with no room in the back. Fairways in good shape, but a little wet. Overall course was in great shape compered to other course's in the area because of recent heavy rains.
Very challenging greens!
My favorite part of the course is that there were no dogs! Fescue and woods can get you in trouble. Course is in very good shape. Make sure you stay below the hole on your approach shots. We saved $60 going through golf now.
A bit over priced
Tough course to just go out and play, need to know a little about it beforehand and it isn't explained very well through the card or yardage markers. Greens were in good shape rough was a thick which made the shorter layout a bit more challenging. I don't know it was quite worth the money we payed, even with the Golfnow discount.
Fun course but greens could be better.
My friend and I played on a weekend during prime time. Pace of play was pretty good and we had a great time overall. The course was in pretty good shape but the greens were in need of some attention. If you had a put over 8ft then good luck. All in all though I was a fan of the course and for sure would play it again.
Very nice course
Course is in incredible shape. Nice and long from the back tees. Greens couldn't be in more perfect shape, rolling true and fast. About a 10-11 on the stimp meter. Play below the pin on your approach as they are hard to check up onto. Lots of blind shots so be aware of the group in front of you. Driving range and practice green behind the 18th hole at the back of the parking lot. I can't even think of a better course in the $50 range.
Best public in MASS.
We love this course. The folks who run the course are the best. Our group play many courses all over the USA and the SSCC crew is as good as any we meet.
You can't beat the value and the fairways and greens are in great shape.
You can tell there was a great deal of work done during the winter to get the course in top shape.
Please keep the deals coming for SSCC.
Thanks,
Nice Round
We got a rate of $54 with cart on a Sunday afternoon. My complaints would be pace of play and I didn't like the sandtraps. I felt like the sand was to soft, like a 4x4 beach. But otherwise, I think it's a decent course and I would go back.
great shape for April
The layout and topography made the course challenging and interesting. The only thing we had to contend with was fierce winds. We were so excited to get our first round in we sucked it up and played through the poor conditions. We had hoped to get a discount because of the wind and because there was nobody on the course but no such luck. We will be back to play another time on a calm day for sure.
SSCC fun to play if you can get a deal
Unfortunately at most times they charge you an arm and a leg to play this course as if it were comparable to some of the bests. All in all it's a great course, classic course with not too many hazards but a lot of different shots. Greens were impeccable when i played during the offseason, could only imagine what theyre like at peak times. Fun to play if you can get a deal but not worth almost $90. Would rather spend the ten extra to play a place like Pinehills or Granite Links
nice shape for this time of year
nicely maintained with friendly staff. the greens were in excellent shape as well as the fairways and tee boxes.
Challenging course in great condition
This course was esthetically pleasing, athletically challenging and architecturally superb. I found everything about this course more than satisfying. I would recommend it to all golfers who are ready for a challenge.
Good test at course in great condition.
Course was in excellent shape for this time of year. Leaves completely blown away, fairways immaculate and greens fast but true. Lots of slopes to deal with, but a fun test neonetheless. truly enjoyed it.
A different challenge every hole
one of the best character. courses in ma. ....this is a great example of a true challenge without having to be over 7000 yards.
Smaller well paced greens, a bit sandy the day I played.
The course was well maintained for October with exception to 1 or 2 greens being very sandy. It is a fairly open course with a good mix of challenging holes and birdie holes. Through Golf Now i paid $30 with a cart and in my opinion the course is well worth it at that price.
decent town owned semi private course
Seems to play a little longer than it is. Course is usually in nice condition. Weekends a little busy, but under 5 hours. Regular rates for out of towners is a bit on the high side (discount for residents) compared to other courses. Look for specials such as Groupon, etc.
There is a fair amount of contour and variety of holes. Cart is recommended. Beginners will find it very challenging.
